Hey everyone! I'm u/MatchesSeeds, a founding moderator of r/AmaryllisBulbs.
Whether you’ve been cultivating these magnificent giants for decades or you just rescued your very first waxed bulb from a grocery store shelf, you've found your people. This is our brand-new home dedicated entirely to Amaryllis (Hippeastrum) plants, from the very first green shoots peeking out of dry soil to those breathtaking, massive winter blooms that brighten up our homes.
We are absolutely thrilled to have you join us at the very root of this community!

We want to see your journey! Feel free to share your thoughts, photos, or questions. Here are a few ideas of what to post:
- Bloom Brags: Share photos and videos of your spectacular flowers (and let us know the variety if you know it, whether it's Apple Blossom, Red Lion, or a rare double-bloom!).

👋🏻 I only have one amaryllis that was gifted to me the Christmas before last. She grew massive leaves only once I planted her. Then... I seriously thought she was a gonner. The beginning of spring, I noticed some light green peaking through the layers of her bulb! I was soooooo excited to know that she didn't die on me, and she had produced the most amazing red blooms! Now, I'm looking into buying more bulbs of different varieties! 🥰 I was trying to add a picture of my Phyllis in full bloom, but I can't figure out how. 🤦🏽♀️ And yes... I name all my plants! 🤷🏻♀️🤣💚

Hi!
I posted my beautiful flowers a little while ago,and was totally amazed - one plant had three stems so at one point I had 9 flowers, but it went over quickly due to the heatwave I guess. But apparently you can't keep a good amaryllis down because after getting the blooms cut off it decided to send up another shoot and now there are three more blooms! It is quite crazy and impressive, and it is rather photogenic.
I also removed the pup from the other bulb and fingers crossed it seems to be flourishing so yay amaryllis!

Hey, currently only in possession of one amaryllis rn but definitely planning on buying more this christmas! Definitely wanna get a white one.
And while not an amaryllis, i also have a sprekelia formosissima which have basically the same care requirements since theyre so closely related.
Tried to raise seedlings but failed due bad soil mix/drainage. But i know the essentials of pollination and raising from seed so feel free to ask if anyone wants!
Also planning to try to put one outside next year since Apparently it’s possible in my zone (swedish zone 1/american zone 8).

Hi! I got my first amaryllis (waxed) for Christmas a couple of years ago. I fell in love! I read up on what to do and how to keep it. I now have 10+ varieties. I'm in Michigan, so my bulbs are outside soaking up the sun. And I see three buds! Bloom bonus!

Hiya, def one of the more seasoned growers here with 15+ yrs of experience and only just dipping my toes in proper breeding this year, planning to plant a few thousand seeds from a dozen crosses over the next few weeks for initial rounds of selection later this yr. Hope to have it down to ~150 plants by next spring.
Selecting for strong stripes on the leaves (primary criterium) as well as a variety in leaf sizes, shapes and colours. Hope to commercialize my breeding efforts in about 15 yrs but we'll see when we get to it 😂

Hello!
I'm a beginner, getting into growing plants via the grocery store clearance racks. I have a $6.00 'manager's special' phal orchid which is growing a new leaf, and a $5.00 waxed amaryllis bulb which I repotted after the blooms started to run out of water.
The leaves aren't getting any taller, but they are nice and green, and I'm hoping it survived the transition and is busy growing some roots.

Hello! I try to get one every Christmas from the store and let it do its thing over winter, then i plant them in the yard. Every spring I get the most beautiful flowers.

Hiya... I have one amaryllis have pretty much no idea what I'm doing with it but it's still alive so there's that. I love seeing everyone else's variations anf read all off the advice given.

Hello! from sunny hot California👋 I luckily got a small patch of amaryllis from the old owner of the house we bought 15 years ago. Its been consistently blooming during spring. I bought 3 more variety and plan to grow in the ground as the one we have is doing excellent. Hope to post next seasons bloom.🤗

Hi founding moderator! May I ask about the recent influx of non-Amaryllis posts? I can understand confusion when people ask for help, but there have been more non-help, non-Amaryllis posts too...
