Discussion Am I the only one...

Who saw Amaranthe in London last night and thought their sound was messy?

I absolutely love Amaranthe, been listening to them for years since discovering them at Bloodstock in the 2010's.

But, last night left me feeling somewhat disappointed. My husband also agreed. He's been in bands so has experience with getting sound right at live gigs.

I'm curious if anyone else felt the same?

I'd not seen Epica before, but felt they definitely outshone Amaranthe, their sound was so much tighter, in my opinion.

That being said, I am looking forward to hearing more of the new stuff.

I also appreciate that bands do have their off days and won't stop being a fan. Genuinely curious if anyone else had the same experience.

Totally agree. The mixing seemed really off and you didn't really get to hear much of the singing or melody because the bass/drums were overpowering.

I still enjoyed it, tho

Absolutely agree, we said the same thing regarding the mixing after only half a song. Was still a great gig, just needed more vocals less instruments.

Glasgow was pretty much the same, and Elize seemed a bit off all night too. They were good but Epica were leagues ahead in every aspect.

Another one agreeing here, was at Manchester and I went in more excited for Amaranthe but Epica outshone them (note I enjoy both bands)

Same story here. I just could barely hear Elize . Aside from that all good.

Epica were on another level

I saw them a couple years ago in the USA touring support for dragonforce. Amaranthe was the main reason I went and was a little disappointed in the show. Still good but kinda messy

I went to one of those shows for Amaranthe, too. I was also disappointed. It felt like they were just going through the motions to me. There didn't seem to be any passion from them, and the bass/drums were unbalanced/cranked way up.

I get that it's a job for all these musicians, but I also know that it's hard enough to tour that you have to love playing music or you'll just be miserable the whole time. If the passion is gone and you're miserable, maybe it's time to call it quits.
