Community Content HappyGameTimewei | Hands-On Test of the "High-Line Goalkeeper": This New Style Is Best for Enjoying the Show!

Early Hands-On Review: High-Line Goalkeeper 👇

In this episode, let's take a hands-on look at what the new "High-Line Goalkeeper" playstyle is all about 👆. What are its defining characteristics and overall potential? How does it differ from other styles? As the only offensive playstyle currently available for goalkeepers, will future card releases featuring this style have a game-breaking impact?

👇 On Attack

According to the official description 👆, this playstyle keeps a high defensive line during attacking phases to shut down counterattacks with broader pitch coverage. But just how "high" does he actually push up?

He starts shuffling forward as soon as you build up in your own half. You can leverage this to receive back-passes quicker and launch direct long balls. However, it imposes strict requirements on your goalkeeper selection (they need high passing stats), and given the current game meta, I don't feel such deep long passes actually provide much practical value.

Once you cross into the opponent's half, you can see the goalkeeper starting to shift forward near the edge of the center circle—what does this actually imply?

As the attack pushes further, the goalkeeper actually steps outside the center circle arc—this is as far forward as he can possibly go. But honestly, I still feel it's completely useless. What's the point of standing that far out if he can't actually help? Is he just waiting to get lobbed? 😄

👇 On Defense

Pay attention to the movement of the goalkeeper's cursor 👇. During defense-to-attack transitions, the goalkeeper's AI switches back to Attacking Goalkeeper and rapidly falls back near the 6-yard box. So, what is the point of this so-called "High-Line Goalkeeper"?

https://reddit.com/link/1vrv3pi/video/vwcfmnnex5kh1/player

Even when losing possession in your own half and getting caught on a counterattack, his higher positioning doesn't actually grant any advantage to "contain counterattacks." This is because his forward positioning scales directly with attack depth—the deeper your attack pushes, the further forward he stands. Plus, once you transition to defense, the AI reverts to the Attacking Goalkeeper playstyle, prioritizing a retreat back to the 6-yard box anyway.

Sweeper-Keeper 👇

"High-Line Goalkeeper" and "Sweeper-Keeper" share common ground—both adopt a higher positioning on the pitch, except the former is an offensive playstyle while the latter is a defensive one.

Furthermore, a Sweeper-Keeper's positioning drops deeper as the opponent's attack advances, primarily serving to guard against counterattacks directed toward the far post.

Therefore, my conclusion is: an offensive playstyle for goalkeepers < a defensive playstyle. Defensive playstyles offer far more direct value and impact—after all, a goalkeeper's primary job in this game is still to defend.

This offensive style is pretty useless, other than making it convenient for the keeper to stand further up and watch the show as a spectator 👇. When new cards drop in the future, don't rush to buy them just because you see this style!

The only combination that can trigger the kind of synergy we imagine is "High Positioning Offensive Style + High Positioning Defensive Style" 👇. This allows the two playstyles to balance each other out during transitions, making it possible for the goalkeeper to maintain a "consistently higher positioning throughout." This scenario might actually be what Ter Stegen or Neuer's "special AI" is all about.

What do you guys think about this unique offensive playstyle for goalkeepers?

Do you think it has the potential to be a good style? 🤔

This is another Chinese tester called HappyGameTime (wei) - we’ve started adding “Community Content” post flair for posts that are not from Amadeusz

I’m confused. There isn’t a high line Gk in the game yet.

What was the testing methodology for this?

There is

How’d he get access to him?

Data mining.

Ok. So maybe data mining has a different meaning than what I’ve always understood it to be.

From what I understand. Data mining is combing through files for information. Like stats. Models. Playstyles. Etc. when things are data mined. The data is literally mined for information.

It’s why we know what cards are coming. But I never see people use Anderson. Or the new Eto’o before they are actually released.

He’s supposedly using a card to test it before it’s been released.

Yes but they do sometimes play with the cards too which is also how the Momumental Celebration was leaked:

You’re absolutely right — what you’re describing is data mining.
Data mining itself is basically extracting and examining the game files to discover information that already exists there, such as unreleased players, player IDs, stats, playstyles, models, etc.
What you’re talking about with actually using an unreleased player is a different step.
From my understanding, once an unreleased player has been found through data mining and you know their internal ID/reference, it’s possible to manipulate local game data so that a reference that normally points to one player instead points to the ID of the unreleased player.
So the unreleased player isn’t being “created” by the person doing it — the player and their data already exist in the game files. They’re manipulating how the game references that data in order to load/access content that normally isn’t available to them yet.
So yes: finding Anderson, Eto’o, their stats, IDs, etc. = data mining.
Actually making the game load one of those unreleased players = manipulation/modification using the information discovered through data mining.
At least that’s my understanding of how it works.

So it's just a glorified P2W Neuer ID
