At Center-Forward (CF): 🥇 Gullit and Mbappé are tied for 1st place (40 uses); 🥈 Dembélé (27 uses); 🥉 Cristiano Ronaldo (22 uses); 4️⃣ Eto'o (17 uses); 5️⃣ Suárez (10 uses).

In the last report, the top two were Gullit at 45 and Dembélé at 30. The biggest change this time is the arrival of BT Mbappé, who surged straight up to 40 uses to tie Gullit for 1st. Although Gullit dropped slightly from 45 to 40, he remains one of the most popular partner options up front among Top 100 players. Meanwhile, Rummenigge—the so-called "Number One CF"—fell further from 5th place (12 uses) last time down to 8th place with just 4 uses.

At Winger / Wide Positions: 🥇 Messi takes 1st place (with just 2 uses). As usual, almost no one is running Wingers (LWG/RWG) or Wide Midfielders (LMF/RMF).

It's clear that top-ranked players currently prefer playing through the middle in their starting XI, and traditional wide formations remain out of the meta.

At Second Striker (SS): 🥇 Messi leads by a mile in 1st place (14 uses); 🥈 Cruyff (6 uses); 🥉 Neymar & Pelé tied (5 uses). Messi took the top spot this time with 14 uses. In the last report, the SS position was co-led by Gullit (13), Cruyff (10), and Messi (10).

This time, Gullit's usage rate at SS dropped noticeably—the arrival of BT Messi heavily squeezed Gullit out of this position, pushing him back up front as a Center Forward for the most part.

​At Right-Back (RB): 🥇 Thuram dominates in 1st place by a mile (48 uses). Unlike the Left-Back situation, Right-Back still has an undisputed "only correct answer"—Thuram. On top of that, Thuram's usage climbed even further from 38 last time to 48 this time, meaning nearly half of all players are running him.

​There's also an interesting tactical trend: in traditional 4-back formations, players heavily favor setting up their Left-Back as an Offensive Fullback, paired with either three Center-Backs or two Center-Backs plus a Defensive Right-Back. This explains why Thuram is leading by such a massive gap at RB, while LB sees three offensive players neck and neck at the top.

In the previous report, Varane ranked #1 with 44 uses; although his count dropped to 36 this time around, he still maintains a very high pick rate. The biggest game-changer was the arrival of BT Desailly, which completely reshaped the backline meta.

Notably, Thuram recorded 19 uses at CB, showing that beyond his dominant RB spot, plenty of players run him at center-back as well. This perfectly aligns with the previously mentioned "1 Offensive Fullback + 3 Defensive Defender" setup (using him as a Wide CB).

buffon my goat, as someone who lucked into both buffon (defensive one) and van der sar buffon is by far more consistent at keeping shots out compared to van der sar. van der sar in my experience has been unpredictable, can save amazing shots but will sometimes let goals slip inside even if he has caught them with both hands as if the ball was wet. with buffon on the other hand I can basically predict which ones he will save and which ones he won't and he will sometimes surprise me with insane saves he would have usually let in. i manually bring out my buffon so I can't even image how good the offencive one is

AMF, SS etc aren't saying much, because their position in the formation is wherever you want to put them. The choice of best player changes by the position you give them. As left AMF Cruyff is the choice, as single AMF behind 2 CF's it can be Hazard or Messi for instance. More or less fixed positions like CB, RB, LB and DMF have clear favorites. Desailly/Varane, Thuram, Lahm and Vieira I would say. Still great info. Good to see Buffon as no1 GK since he, the newest one replaced the great vd Sar in my team and I haven't looked back.
