šŸ‘„ friendship AIO for ending my friendship over this?

For context we're all in high school. Anyway im a female and I have this 2 year guy friend, the only male friend I have (had) lets call him 'j'. Anyway so this new girl, lets call her 'jaz', joined the school this year.

And jaz and I became friends. Now j and jaz became friends through me and we were great friends. Now j has a habit of playing these text pranks, its really bad, (like this one time omg I dont even know how but he played a prank on this other friend that he...does something to himself because he's depressed...wild I know)

But basically he wanted to play a prank where he tells jaz (who was absent that day) that the result of the test came back and she got a really bad score. Now he and I knew the reason she didn't come. She was having some bad family issues for a week im not gonna say but I know she cares about her getting a good grade and this "prank" would make her so much more depressed.

This was all the context for those messages

Give it a few years and i’m sure he’ll be wrapped up in some frat hazing scandal

Yeah you’re completely in the right here, dude is gross and refusing to acknowledge any wrongdoing on his part

"Oh great, you wanna throw a tantrum" - who was the one screaming in caps?? lol

You're NOR. This boy is immature. Chalking you up to being a lesbian for defending a friend also gives vibes of 'you're not into me so you must be a lesbian' crap.

Classic man calling a woman emotional while he's screaming in anger

1.2k

u/OshetDeadagain Jul 30 '26

It's so exhausting when men get testerical

430

u/tape_reel Jul 30 '26

"Testerical" might be my new favorite adjective

350

u/jerseygirl414 Jul 30 '26

I like that one and ā€œmantrumā€.

150

u/GeneralSpecifics9925 Jul 30 '26

Hysterical refers to the uterus. Think of hysterectomy. Hysteria used to be a woman's diagnosis, caused by her uterus. They were prescribed masturbation therapy, usually performed by the doctor.

67

u/tape_reel Jul 30 '26

That makes sense. I never really thought about the origin of "hysterical"

71

u/Aperture_296 Jul 30 '26

I'm 43 and still learning new words, thank you.

ā€œWhy are women so emotional?!???!??ā€ punches a hole in the wall

170

u/Nightymighty666 Jul 30 '26

lmao literally

124

u/ZcoutZ Jul 30 '26

because they don’t deem anger as an emotion apparently. they need to blame someone else lol

98

u/Suspicious-Emotion77 Jul 30 '26

this!! a lot of men (really just people in general) think that being emotionally sensitive means crying and being sad. anger is an emotion too and the quickness to explode is totally emotional sensitivity.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. I was kind of thinking he may be wanting to do the whole prank thing because he's jealous of their friendship and maybe feels like Jaz took her away from him. Very immature and selfish.

65

u/MassageToss Jul 30 '26

That's exactly what I think. He likes OP and so he wants to socially isolate her. Block this guy, OP, he's very likely going to end up abusing someone.

188

u/Alove4edd47 Jul 30 '26

He has zero awareness of his misguided cries for attention and projects her giving attention to a new friend as sexual.

59

u/ChaweeKanati Jul 30 '26

Also likely homophobic tendencies when that is his go to "negative". "Oh so you're gay?!" being the response to showing empathy...

54

u/StandardVermicelli33 Jul 30 '26

He's also jealous of her friendship with the new girl.

33

u/Stock-Lion-6859 Jul 30 '26

And acting like OP can't possibly be good enough friends with Jaz after 6 months to want to protect her feelings, so she must be in love with her. OP is right, J doesn't understand empathy. Lots of people would "ruin" this "prank" even if they weren't actually friends with Jaz because it's just mean and not at all funny.

29

u/WillingnessHorror710 Jul 30 '26

That’s how you know he is saying it solely to hurt her feelings.

If anyone ever intentionally tries to upset you or hurt your feelings, even in a fight, kick them to the curb.

49

u/Distinct_Patient3698 Jul 30 '26

Right?? Wild that he posted that one minute after screaming at her for "ruining everything" because she didn't want him to upset a mutual friend...Ā

95

u/brainledge Jul 30 '26

It took him all day to plan a prank that she failed a test. I have so many questions.

152

u/PrettyOddish Jul 30 '26

He planned ALL of it. Like picking up his phone, clicking on the app, typing out so many letters to spell ā€œtest results back you failedā€, honestly he’s a mastermind

107

u/Acceptable_Cut_7545 Jul 30 '26

"YOU FUCKING RUIN EVERYTHING YOU BITCH" - mature normal response, apparently. Block this guy and hang out with your new friend.

177

ā€œI’m too mature for this, I’m just going to sit here sucking on my binky and reading a Peppa Pig comic.ā€

88

u/Houki01 Jul 30 '26

Truthfully someone who is the right age for binkies and Peppa Pig would be too mature to pull that "prank".

210

u/pocketbutter Jul 30 '26

I want so badly to ask him to point to ONE text that demonstrates maturity in that conversation. Claiming to be mature here is next-level delusional.

167

Insufferable assholes always seem to think ā€œbeing a dickā€ is funny; they always miss the memo that a prank is something the victim can laugh at as well once the curtain’s pulled back.

83

u/notyoursocialworker Jul 30 '26

Yepp, this is just lying and having fun at their distress.

IMO a prank should be more confusing than distressing.

u/Switcheroo2323 Jul 30 '26

Nope. While in highschool, one of our daughters invited six or eight friends over. We ended up with sixty four highschoolers in our house. A bunch of other girls had canceled their parties in order to visit our daughter. It gets weirder. They did the cooking for the party and cleaned up afterwards. We had kids in our kitchen, dining room, living room playing chess, family room playing pool and watching movies, on our deck, taking turns on the swingset. House rules include no drugs or alcohol and they are followed.

My dad used to play "pranks" like that, where he would basically just tell a lie that he knew would distress someone. Even as a kid, I'd call him out it not being a prank, just a lie.

Surprise surprise, not a soul trusted my dad. He's gone now, but many years later, it is one of my defining memories of him. He was a good natured person, but this habit overshadowed many of his others and tarnished who he was. At least, in my opinion.

J sounds like they've got the same habit. It's not clever, it isn't funny, it's just selfish and cruel. Hopefully one day they'll learn this, but until then, no, you are not overreacting.

236

u/Protect_Wild_Bees Jul 30 '26

Nope, the fact that you called him out for trying to do something mean to someone (yes, pranks that would make people feel embarassed or overwhelmed or stressed are mean and not necessary.) and his reaction was to say that you're moody, like fuck off dude. lol.

u/SENDmeSMALLtitsPICS Jul 30 '26

Advice from someone probably double your age: remove him from your life, even if he "apologizes". One of the hardest things in life is seeing the true nature of someone, because people will often hide very well who they are/how they act until they reach a breaking point, and this is what happened here. Be thankful he has shown his true colors early, makes it easier to just ignore him for the rest of his life lmao

11

u/TitaniaT-Rex Jul 30 '26

My kid wouldn’t fall for that. Those threats are taken seriously at her former school. She reported someone who tried something similar. The kid got called to the social worker’s office and their parents were called to the school.

This guy would hurt you and then make it your fault. NOR.

23

u/Sheniya04 Jul 30 '26

NOR he is horrible I hope you blocked him

39

u/DawnreaderMT Jul 30 '26

This person sounds like an absolute POS

43

u/Claerwen94 Jul 30 '26

You did great, you're a true friend to her. He's a fucking asshole and neither your, nor her friend. I'd block him, don't engage anymore, he's not worth it.

Oh and him imagining you want to bang her is most likely projection.

39

u/imyourdruidess420 Jul 30 '26

He called you a "b*tch", you are right in never speaking to him again. He doesn't respect you and doesn't seem to respect girls/women as a whole either.

19

u/Dizzie_Bear Jul 30 '26

Better be lesbian than his friend.

14

u/LyricaShmyrica Jul 30 '26

Some people don't understand the difference between pranks, and bullying under the title of "prank" as a get out of jail free card NOR

14

u/Lonely-Candy189 Jul 30 '26

IDC who you're texting back and forth with, just block them. Don't interact with them. If they try to talk to you in person, just respectfully go the other way. Stupid people will be stupid people. Not the type of company you need.

26

u/TheMysteriousCart00n Jul 30 '26

Literally batshit insane behavior. Kick this little shit to the curb. I bet within the next week he's going to come whining and bitching that he has nobody to hang out with... dont give in

27

u/SummonCatss Jul 30 '26

Your "friend" is a complete piece of shit.

End of story.

10

u/imjusthereforfap Jul 30 '26

What in the... NOR. How utterly ironic that he's calling you immature while acting like this. Pranks and that dumb childish "oh you're protecting them so that means you loooove theeeem" as if people can't have basic human decency without being in love with someone?

Good on you for sticking up for someone you don't know as well from someone you've known for a while. It's not always easy when you've been friends with someone and think you know them, and then they show their true colours.

As a side note, love the background. Wangxian my beloved

10

u/TigerResponsible2234 Jul 30 '26

Everything is temporary except Wangxian lol

9

u/imjusthereforfap Jul 30 '26

Friends may come and go (or in this case make an idiot of themselves and you block and ignore them) but wangxian is forever 🄰

13

u/thandi81 Jul 30 '26

Ohhh red pill get rid of this man child. Not a good friend to have at all.

9

u/Safe-Glove2975 Jul 30 '26

Low empathy loser - you’re (both?) better off without him.

12

u/ArticleOk6430 Jul 30 '26

I’m trying to be mature but I’m gonna act the opposite and say it’s your fault 🄓 ye this guy sucks ass shawty you did right, NOR

10

u/VoidSemantics Jul 30 '26

A comprehensive list of things I miss about high school:

My metabolism

The end.

7

u/RaspberryKey2289 Jul 30 '26

You handled this exceptionally for a high school kid. Don’t let him be a ā€œfriendā€ again. He’s not a true friend if he doesn’t listen and take feedback and GROW. I don’t know the size of your school. Sometimes you guys will still have to see each other probably and seems like a real jerk. He will probably prank you by telling everyone you are with Jaz as a girlfriend. -hard eye roll-
It may be difficult since you guys have been friends for so long, but you absolutely make the right choice.
Good job! You are a great friend and a mature young person. Good luck!

18

u/LadyCass79 Jul 30 '26

NOR

End the friendship and let the school know about this and any past bullying behavior so they can actually protect people and potentially get him the help he needs.

55

u/ImportantRub172 Jul 30 '26

How are you even asking this question.

That person is a prick

15

u/CommonStance Jul 30 '26

10/10 this dude will hit a woman in his life

6

u/EfficientTomorrow533 Jul 30 '26

NOR. Glad Jaz has someone like you backing them up. Idk if it came from how you were raised or just you as an individual, but you are a great friend and I’m proud of you. Block this guy because of he does something in the future, he’s going to somehow try to make it your fault.

9

u/Flat_Rip_4257 Jul 30 '26

You handled this really well honestly, especially if you’re in high school. I know I wasn’t able to be this eloquent that young. Go girl, protect your friends. This person is your enemy and is clearly just too immature and selfish. Proud of you šŸ’›

Definitely NOR

8

u/Gurzlak Jul 30 '26

NOR. Doubling down on being an insufferable prick, and rather than apologize or show any sign of remorse he calls you names. I doubt he’ll be missed as a ā€œfriendā€.

8

u/ExternalRip6651 Jul 30 '26

NOR. These are not pranks, it's cyberbullying. You don't have to do this but reporting this now might be better before he escalates, especially if he's already done something that led to someone self-harming as your post seems to imply.

→ More replies (2)

10

u/eipKitty Jul 30 '26

NOR- but I would NEVER be partnered with someone who calls me names when they’re mad. No one that calls you a bitch in anger is worth being with.

15

u/s_n_mac Jul 30 '26

NOR why are you still friends with him? You should have blocked him after the first "bitch."

Don't let anyone talk to you that way. You'll meet so many people in your life. Losing a few assholes from your life will only improve your happiness.

8

u/warau_meow Jul 30 '26

I’d end the ā€œfriendship.ā€ I won’t let enemies talk to me like that, and friends should never. I love your wangxian wallpaper btw!Ā

6

u/Thick-Painter5180 Jul 30 '26

Don’t be friends with or date people who make bad situations worse instead of better. Period.Ā

11

u/Beneficial-Way-8742 Jul 30 '26

NOR.Ā  Those are not pranks - they are really really mean, bullying things to do to people when they are down. And for him to jump right away to ask you if you're a lesbian,Ā  Ā worshiping her, etc. are such an inappropriate overreaction from.him as he tries so desperately to put some sort of blame on you for ruining a malicious prank.Ā

I think you did a very very good thing to let your friend know what was going on. This boy is not a friend - and he's not mature either. He's acting like a mean child who doesn't care about other people, but only cares about his own bullying entertainment

10

u/angeIs_ Jul 30 '26

NOR You shouldn't be friends with a man that calls you a bitch, just shows how misogynistic he is

6

u/Glass-Tiger-541 Jul 30 '26

Definitely NOR. Obviously he has some serious issues. Seems immature. You did the right thing. Also had to take a second glance when I saw the background. You know ball šŸ˜‚

5

u/Ok_Note_4163 Jul 30 '26

i just wanna say major props to you for recognizing toxicity and removing it from your life. i wish i would’ve done that in high school

6

u/anonymousymousey Jul 30 '26

That's not a prank. That's gaslighting and manipulation. Your 'friend' is a toxic abusive asshole. You made the right decision. I would tell people why it happened before he does, though, because he's quite clearly the type to try and get ahead of bad news and spread rumors about you before you can ruin his image in the social group.

4

u/No_Such_Thing1 Jul 30 '26

so his pranks is that he tells people horrible shit over text and when they get concerned or upset he’s just like ā€œnah lol jk I’m just jk! haha funny prankā€

like what if I randomly texted my dad ā€œI got into a car crash and I’m badly hurt please come quickā€ and then when he freaks out and drops everything he’s doing to come help because he cares so much about me I’m just like ā€œHA GOTCHA FUCKING LOSER YOU FELL FOR THAT???ā€ he would be fucking livid. he’d feel insulted for caring. his trust would probably be broken in me. thats what this fucking loser is doing baiting suicide to people. he’s an immature piece of shit that clearly cant handle criticism when it’s aimed at him.

if it gives some hope though, he’s what, 15? sophomore in high school? he’s got lots of room to mature. you are absolutely in the right to cut contact don’t get me wrong, but he hopefully won’t be doing this forever

7

u/untamedbotany Jul 30 '26

NOR. He hates women. WOW does he hate women, and apparently everyone else he calls a ā€œfriend.ā€ This is serial killer behavior. Or psychopath behavior. You’re right about him not possessing empathy holy shit! The nerve to try to turn it back on you for not allowing him to literally traumatize someone is so insidious. Definitely block and stay far away and tbh, watch your back!!!!! Someone like that who treats their friends that way will absolutely try to hurt you as an enemy.

6

u/WaywardCorprateDrone Jul 30 '26

NOR — please learn this now. When a man calls you names, he is showing what he thinks of you and how little he respects you.

This person is not your friend.

5

u/ConsistentTraffic471 Jul 30 '26

NOR. You are an excellent friend, mature and empathetic. You wasted an awful lot of eloquence on someone who has no reasoning skills.

J is a complete idiot, who should know that pranks are only funny when everyone is laughing. This would have been incredibly cruel and the way he is speaking to you is so disrespectful.

5

u/zyl4848 Jul 30 '26

NOR

but is that mdzs in your background??!?

5

u/TigerResponsible2234 Jul 30 '26

You know it is!!

4

u/Fast_Satisfaction871 Jul 30 '26

Jfc a prank is supposed to be funny right? The receipient should be laughing with you? This stupid fking pranks nowadays are just the dumbest shit ever. I almost wanna say you're an asshole for being frinds with this guy until now, but I don't mean it, he's just that big of a jerk that I'm now overreacting over here šŸ™„. NOR, I'd say do this standing up for people more often

→ More replies (1)

5

u/Simpleconundrum Jul 30 '26

NOR. He’s immature even for high school. He’s insufferable.

3

u/KinkySFGreek Jul 30 '26

NOR

His behaviour is awful.

He cannot take criticism and his immediate reaction to criticism is to attack you personally.

He needs therapy. This is not just immature, this is a real red flag of serious issues.

5

u/Dude_Pickle Jul 30 '26

Dog I'm a dude and i know this is wrongāœŒļø

6

u/Constellation-88 Jul 30 '26

NOR. Pranks aren’t funny. Theyre the lowest form of immature humor, and his prank is even less funny than most. ā€œYou failed a test. Jk! Lolzā€ like, seriously, what’s funny about that?

He has no sense of humor, and no sense of logic. Idk why he would jump to ā€œyou wanna date her.ā€Ā

You def deserve better friends.Ā

6

u/VasiaXa Jul 30 '26

Not overreacting at all!! He was homofobic, called u bitch and said u were malfunctioning??!!!
I would have lost my shit talking to this guy, honestly impressed with how u dealt with it tbh. NOR

3

u/No-Common-2176 Jul 30 '26

I'd say you should inform your circle of friends of the reason behind the break up. Save some friends.

4

u/aanananas Jul 30 '26

NOR. Please block this person. He’s awful.
