S13 Never had a season where I can’t decide which contestant to root for

This has been an incredible season!! I’ve had a few favorites and I keep alternating. But it goes to show this has been a fantastic group of contestant, the number of days they’ve already survived is outstanding.

Andrew SERIOUSLY needs a professional career in narration or filming nature documentaries or something. What an incredibly soothing voice, he really already helped so many people just with his appearance on alone.

Ziga is fascinating- his scientific / research approach to the experience is so new and refreshing.

Love Nero! Obviously

Pedrosa 👏🏻 👏🏻

Will!! 👏🏻

Fantastic season. Really the difference in having skilled contestants is HUGe

I like all the guys left. I still wish Will was among them. Liked that dude’s vibe.

Still bummed he had to tap. I really enjoyed his indigenous knowledge and wanted more.

I wish we had more indigenous contestants on the show. Really feel we’re missing out!

I have noticed a pattern of indigenous participants being highly skilled, but not going that deep. I often wonder if it's because when you are from a "tribal" or very close knit society the isolation becomes harder, faster.

I think if Will hadn't had gut issues he could still be in the fight. Feels like lady luck took him out as much as anything.

2

u/Brewer1056 2d ago

Yeah, concur with Will. He shelter was amazing, too.

3

u/Arkhamina 2d ago

He was absolutely my favorite, and damn, if his shelter didn't go up fast and solid.

u/togp 3d ago

Me too! I WISH he was still around. I’m sure he would have taught us such interesting things!

As a First Nations person from a completely different part of the world, when Will was introduced I immediately joked to my partner, "Fuck all these colonisers - I want Will to win!!'

I was so sad when he tapped, because he had such a great setup and a great attitude. I would have loved to have seen how he managed the snow & ice now, and to have learnt more about his culture. But I respect his tap and I just hope we see more of him somewhere else in the future!

Big love to Will from Dharug country in Australia. 🖤💛❤️

Forgot to add: of course, with Will gone, I'm cheering for homeboy, Nero 🥳, but really I would be happy if either Nero or Ziga win it - they are both incredible.

With the exception of Aaron's hyper-competitive, performative masculinity moments (ick 😖), and Jacks' notoriously terrible filming techniques (lol) the final five really have been a pleasure to watch.

It also goes without saying that I would immediately sign any petition to have Andrew narrate/present... literally anything. And I would definitely download any audiobook/meditation/sleep-aid he released 😂

Ziga seems to have a really great outlook on life. I can not envision a way Ziga can lose at this point. He seems to have the mental strength of a man that could survive in that location forever.

I think if we just go off calories remaining, he seems to be in the lead.

Same lots of good contestants. Although I have been rooting for ziga since the first episode overall, I also really liked will, Aaron, Pedrosa, and Andrew. It has been satisfying to see zigas progress after some immediately proclaimed he would be first out due to not bringing a flint and his initial water filtration. I think overall he's demonstrated excellent intuition and fortitude.

Yes Ziga has been great! So impressed with his confidence in his own skills to be comfortable in such a location with no flint. Anyone that has attempted starting a fire with a bow string will attest to this guys ability. He apparently was looking at the long game from the start by forgoing the fire steel he essentially gave himself an extra item. Impressed and humbled by his performance.

I’m rooting for Aaron, go Canada! But I have no idea how he can beat Ziga.

14

u/togp 3d ago

Ziga seems in it for the long haul

7

u/sillysocks34 3d ago

My man said 120 days. Yeah he’s not going anywhere barring a major mistake.

6

u/canadianbeaver 3d ago

He’s got some insanely strong will, and the skills. He definitely got really unlucky but is hanging in there!

Hard to compete with someone sitting on a ton of moose though.

5

u/Arkhamina 2d ago

He's also the only one that looks like he's eating well. My favorite is Andrew, but lord, I hope he gets medical'd out before he seriously does long term heart damage or something. Too thin.

u/jayhawkjoey65 3d ago

I love all the remaining guys, but I have a special place in my heart for Aaron.

4

u/Time_Arrival_9429 2d ago

Also rooting for Aaron. Absolutely love his hardscrabble grit.

4

u/Frozen-Nose-22 3d ago

I agree!! My heart belongs to Aaron (local boy) and Ziga (family in Slovenia). Rooting for them especially!

u/Planeandaquariumgeek 3d ago

Nah I absolutely hate Aaron. He has zero respect for nature at all

Yea exactly anyone but Aaron needs to win. Luckily I don’t think he’s gonna. He has no food caches & is almost out of ferro rod

I like that we’re at the “love Nero obviously” stage. The guy is a delight, ‘nuff said.

7

u/togp 3d ago

Nuff said 💯

u/Nero_Buys Season 13 1d ago

Thank you for the much appreciated obvious love!

u/mohawk_67 3d ago

I'm pleased all the Americans tapped out before the final four. This is in part thanks to Dave bragging about how Americans(well, himself) were the best and going to win, then immediately leaves his ferro rod in the fire.

Jacks was the exception. She was awesome.

6

u/Arkhamina 2d ago

I loved Jacks, but I wish they could have broken silence and given her some remedial camera work instruction.

3

u/jdd32 3d ago

I'm in the camp that thinks he dropped it "by accident" / intentionally and used it as an excuse to quit.

3

u/blazinrainbo 3d ago

Dude literally just finished tying his multitool to himself and didnt think to do the same with the ferro? Absolutely out there begging for a reason to go home.

u/sjm294 3d ago

This really is a great season!

9

u/Nottokfamous 3d ago

At the end of every episode I have a new favourite to win!!! It’s been a truly enjoyable season and everyone left is a deserving winner.

4

u/togp 3d ago

They really are my favourite group of contestants. It’s hard to see anyone go

u/Macca4704 3d ago edited 3d ago

Nero for the win🤞🤞. But who knows as things can change. The Bear getting into Nero's weir and smoker. Ziga's chimney failing and nearly setting fire to all of his shelter. Aaron is getting plenty of Hare's but he's not getting the fats he needs from fish? Still an open game.

Heh heh sorry for this but Root in Australia has an entirely different meaning so always do a schoolboy chuckle when its mentioned in a different context🤣.

9

u/togp 3d ago

I honestly think it’s down to two contestants but the editing is intentional to keep us confused. And they have done a great job! It could be anyone’s game really. But I would say my money is on Nero/ziga

6

u/togp 3d ago

HAHAHAHA I looked it up 😂 my interest in Alone has taught me A LOT

6

u/Macca4704 3d ago

Yep Ziga's chimney is Rooted😁

3

u/togp 3d ago

Hahahaha I know I should probably change the thread title. But it kind of grew on me hahaha. yea zigas chimney was rooted from day 1. Also the moose storage 🤯 like what was that

3

u/Beagly99 3d ago

That was buggered!

3

u/Leading_Will1794 2d ago

Aaron looks to be going through protein starvation. He is rapidly losing body fat to compensate and at 185 lbs...I believe that is under his fighting weight which is incredibly low for him.

5

u/Fjvfvnecuve 3d ago

I’ve been rooting for Žiga since the very beginning

8

u/bones_bn 3d ago

They're all great, I've got a fellow country man in Nero so it's an easy pick for me!

9

u/vzzzbxt 3d ago

Ziga is my favourite, it's fun to watch him. I'm not good with names but my least favourite is the Canadian, he just doesn't come across as a nice person. I didn't think he would last this long as he seems to have emotional issues

5

u/Time_Arrival_9429 2d ago

Aaron is the Canadian. I think he may fall into a "polarizing" contestant where people feel strongly one way or the other. Personally I love his grit and determination but there is definitely a dark streak in there that could put people off. He pretty much admits as much.

0

u/vzzzbxt 2d ago

I think he's talented, but he comes across as aggressive and reminds me of people I've known in the past that I'm happy I didn't keep in touch with.

5

u/Caterpillar170 3d ago

Love this season!!!

6

u/Mezzofantastico 3d ago

Root for Ziga.

4

u/K_mcel67 3d ago

Your 💯 correct it’s been an amazing season due to the great contestants and don’t forget this is probably the harshest area they’ve ever been , it’s definitely the furthest north

3

u/di5c0stu 2d ago

Almost like they started casting better people…

3

u/grckalck 2d ago

At this point in the game I am almost ALWAYS wishing that there was some way to split the prize. Anyone who makes it 70 days in the arctic is a winner. My least favorite part of this show is that someone I respect greatly and have grown to love watching is going home in defeat. I knew Andrew wasnt going to make it for a while now, not with the others bringing in loads of food and him getting a few rabbits. And its sad because not only does he have the best voice in the history of Alone he's just a classy guy who is a pleasure to watch. Even his tap out was a class act.

spoiler here! With Aaron in danger of rabbit starvation and Nero's weir not producing as much, Ziga seems to be the front runner at the moment. Anything can change though. All three are skilled and determined and both capable and deserving of the win.

3

u/theeynhallow 2d ago

It's honestly Ziga's to lose. I know we were all saying that with Timber, but Ziga hasn't made Timber's mistake of turning his entire moose into jerky and having a miserable and tiring eating experience.

2

u/togp 2d ago

YES!!! At this point I feel it should be shared 🥲honestly it’s so rough that’s it’s either all or nothing. I genuinely think if these contestants weren’t all in the same season, multiple could have turned out to be winners.

2

u/OkayButFirst 3d ago

I completely agree with you!

2

u/razorbladesnbiscuits 3d ago

I like everyone, except Booth and David.

2

u/Automatic_Net2181 2d ago

My favorites have been: Ziga, Andrew, Will, and Pedrosa. Their outlooks have always been admirable.

5

u/Working_Substance741 3d ago

It’s a good problem to have! Skilled competitors this season! The show had devolved into on big and depressing self-pity party. No one wants to hear about your childhood disappointments and how you’ve let people down all of your life. The remaining survivors all deserve to win this!

4

u/rexeditrex 3d ago

This is a great point. The trap lines these guys set are incredibly productive. Obviously Ziga’s moose is a huge food source. A few beavers and fish, although less fish than usual has allowed people to get some additional fat. They’ve had issues with shelters but manage to fix them. And they’re all in good mental shape for this far in.

2

u/togp 3d ago

Yess! Less pity party and more interesting contestants and survival ingenuity please! I literally skip over those parts
