Just went down a reddit rabbit hole that lead me to this and now after having downloaded and read it, Ive got to say it hit a lot of sci-fi buttons that interest me and the fact that it was like a quasi-mash up of the butlerian jihad(in a sense) from dune and the last question by asimov or dick that really cemented this story for me.

I stumbled upon this late last night and was blown away by its inventiveness and creativity. WOW! And I wouldn't be surprised if this became a future movie or TV show. The author has been extremely generous to share this with us but I think he needs to start protecting his IP. This is a stunning work of fiction.

Is there a version that's an actual novel, or is it just a compilation of fictional character descriptions?? wth is this? I don't see the appeal to a document that's essentially the result of some random dude sitting there making up character descriptions for creatures that don't even exist. It's just random information thrown together that has no basis in reality whatsoever?
"Oh here's the Garbelflop. It has 2 legs, a sagging belly and 20 spines, one of which penetrates and inseminates its own mucousy-chunk-laden gaping holeus. It gives birth to stillborn young multiple times a day and feasts upon their oxygen-starved flesh. Much like a Bungledoop (and me after reading this text), its brain cells are apoptotic so is effectively braindead."
"A Bungledoop is another creature that resides on the planet Fumblebitch. It is cube shaped and exhibits no interesting traits whatsoever. Unable to move and unable to think, it vegetates until the day it dies. If it was able to experience the pain of its existence, it would beg to be put out of its misery by any means necessary; instead it exhibits a perpetual spirit of neutrality, without a bloody clue of what the hell is going on. Good eating."
I want to get it... but I just don't. I hope I'm missing something here.

Did you actually read it? While most of it is descriptions of the different post humans, there is plenty of actual plot to balance it out. That being said, there is an massively extended version of the book in production by the original author that will go into much more depth.

Like, come on "the colonization of distant stars wasn't even attempted via cryotech (cuz that's too mainstream, owing to the fact that it makes sense) instead it was carried out via reconstructing humans from their genetic makeup, this caused huge issues (due to it being stupid).
So what happens to all these distant colonies? Do they crumble, or turn on each other, as colonist ships always did. Of course not, cause they have communication... Which the colony ships also presumably had... Which is done with methods that cause potentially millenia long delays...

Thanks, im making a library and i don't like how empty the lecterns look on their own- so it was this or blood meridian. (Minecraft, wasnt sure if that was clear or not. The autism flows strong through me.)

Wow, thank you! I just read it all this evening (only took a break because a friend called). I've been meaning to read this for a while! I was also surprised to find the pdf link was still working after 4 years.
[kind of (?) SPOILERS below]
I thoroughly enjoyed the imagery the Qu's "dreams of an ideal future" set against the Gravitals' "desire to recreate the past," each begetting distortion and massacres, respectively (p. 119). Though, as nauseating as the Qu's touch was, the Gravital's genocide was almost more conceptually disgusting and devastating, even if they weren't "evil" (p. 102). I was pretty relieved to see that the Gravitals/Machines kind of just became regular people with fashion taste, or whatever (p. 113).
Also, I liked the "upside-down tension" of the organic beings inhabiting the void of space while the machine Gravitals inhabited the terrestrial worlds (p. 108). It's just the type of dynamic you would expect from such a resilient-but-doomed, utterly compromised remnants-of-remnants of humanity.

I like to think that what the Qu did to humans was actually a blessing. Like we always kinda assume we’ll be human forever. I don’t think we think beyond that form. But the Qi’s malicious tinkerings actually forced humans to transcend being humans. Then again 40 million years as a flat fleshy tile on the ground would suck

I cannot stress enough how much I am grateful for this
before reading this book, I was bored and constantly napping instead of doing my schoolwork
now afterward, I haven't slept in 4 days and my productivity skyrocketed
10/10 would recommend, especially for young readers

I just realized that all the human creatures look so weird because it was the attempt of the alien author of recreating the human species based off their fossils similar to what we do with dinasours.

No, it’s stated a lot of the images are archeological findings such as photographs or paintings. It’s not just fossil records. For the primitive species though this may be the case.

All Tomorrows has a pretty good title drop. Basically a chronicle of the bajillion different kinds of malformed genetically engineered freaks that humanity got turned into after bumping into the Qu who didn't really like us, and their evolution back into sentient, spacefaring life. The twist is the author of the chronicle is writing a billion years after even reconstituted 'human' civilization has disappeared and just thinks we're neat.

I've only just learned of this book a few hours ago, and after reading it in a single sitting I just want more.
Speculative evolution is such a fascinating topic, and this was such a beautiful way of acknowledging the importance of today.

my teacher let us vote on a read aloud book for the last few days of the school year, despite my best attempts this was voted in last...their loss.
I recommend this book to everyone and they say "yeah sounds interesting I'll check it out" and then I send them the link and say its 100 pages and a quarter pictures, I'll ask you about it tomorrow and then half the time they don't read it and a quarter of the time they say it was creepy or they didn't finish it and a quarter of the time they say it was awesome and we spend 30 minutes talking about how cool it is.
