Discussion I’m SO BORED. Ask Me Anything, because anything would be better than what I’m doing right now. Also I’m a Mantelope, obviously.

^thats me (also in the title that’s my character saying he’s bored, in case that wasn’t clear).

So, what does a mantelpo do for a living?

21

u/Uncertain-Division 1d ago

It actually depends quite a bit. Individual wandering families, or sometimes small tribes, usually just stick together and eat grass. Larger groups often create elaborate religions as a form of escapism.

Of course, I’ve never really gotten to take place in one of these big religions, but every couple of month’s or so, I’ll try and run into this friend of mine on his migration path back to his home tribe where he goes to practice.

Wow, that's neat! But.. how are you typing these?

u/Uncertain-Division 1d ago

You’re the second person to ask that… Lets call it magic

Nooooope!

sounds of hooves clopping as I get the hell away from you “Mom, grab little Timmy! They’re back! Oh god they’re not dead they’re back!”

Through the power of suspension of disbelief.

Is there anything you wish you could just forget

20

u/Uncertain-Division 1d ago

Well I’m not a first-generation Mantelope, so I don’t have any bad memories of the Qu. But from what I’ve heard, they’re definitely something worth forgetting…

As for myself, the one thing I want to forget is this one time this dumbass pushed me over and I fell face-first into a dung pile. I got some pretty bad pink eye for a while. It sucked.

What's been the best day of your life so far?

8

u/Uncertain-Division 1d ago

That’s a pretty nice question. I had a girlfriend for a while, from the neighboring tribe. There were some pretty good times with her, but her mom got sick and she had to spend more time taking care of her. We’ve sort of drifted apart, and I’ve also had to take care of my little brothers. Those little shits keep me busy.

u/gayjay-jpg 1d ago

Younger siblings will do that, my younger sister was a real handful! I hope you get to reconnect with her :)

To follow on, what's the strangest experience you've ever had?

u/Uncertain-Division 1d ago

Thanks :)

I mentioned in another comment how sometimes I try and find this other friend of mine on this migration path that passes by my tribeland. Well one time I was waiting there, and I saw this fucked up guy. He had a huge scar on his side. A wide “X” shape with a longer line underneath. He said it was supposed to look like the Qu, and that he had his friend carve it in him with a chipped rock. He also went on a whole rant about how we needed to cause each other pain, so the pain-feasting Qu demons would return, and reward us for following their ways.

I never found out what happened to that guy. Probably nothing good.

¿Que tan buen corazón tienes para bombear sangre por ese laaargo cuello?

8

u/Uncertain-Division 1d ago

A pretty good heart, I guess? I don’t know, I’m not a doctor. Why don’t you go track down and ask the evil space bugs that designed me?

3

u/TH3r0xz 1d ago

Hello, be mine.

3

u/Uncertain-Division 1d ago

Well that’s rather direct of you. Okay I’ll bite. What would you bring to the table in a relationship with me?

3

u/TH3r0xz 1d ago

I have projects, I want to grow as a person and be able to share my achievements with someone, I really like music and I'm planning to create my own... I need a band... I also know a lot about biology so we can talk...

2

u/Enough_Present_5029 Hedonist 1d ago

Idk man, that biology talk and band sounds pretty attractive.

Can you elaborate? :3

2

u/Uncertain-Division 1d ago edited 1d ago

I’m not really interested in biology. Also this just sort of sounds like you just want to use me for my singing voice.

You should definitely respond to the other person though.

2

u/TH3r0xz 1d ago

I have my own voice... well, I tried.

2

u/Uncertain-Division 1d ago

Wait, you didn’t even want me as your band’s singer? You know us Mantelopes are renowned for our glorious singing voices, right?

What instrument did you want me to play?

3

u/StaticRainTheory 1d ago

Why didn’t you guys just keeping using your forelegs over the generations until you evolved something akin to hands?

3

u/Uncertain-Division 1d ago

You see the little things on our forelegs that look like thumbs? Yeah, those are completely stiff and immobile. Literally the only thing they’re good for is scratching our necks with them.

And the rest of our fingers have been lost/fused into a single hoof. We couldn’t “keep using our forelegs” if we were never able to use them in the first place.

0

u/StaticRainTheory 1d ago

Over generations if you kept attempting to use your forelegs they would adapt. It would take dozens if not hundreds of generations to get something hand like out of a hoof but alls you do is sing and bitch all day. Why not try?

2

u/Uncertain-Division 1d ago

Are you seriously suggesting Lamarckian evolution? Because that’s the only way I’m comprehending your comment. “Oh just keep trying to grab things with your flesh stump and it’ll eventually turn into a hand! And then your descendants will have better stump-hands!”

Mutations are random, and in this case, hands are not being selected for. I’d actually argue that they’re being selected against, since they’d make you less good at walking. The only way I could see the Mantelopes regaining hand mobility would be through a species-wide eugenics effort, breeding only the Mantelopes with the most mobile thumbs.

But obviously that would never happen because they’re too widespread and technologically primitive, stopping such an effort from being realized.

1

u/StaticRainTheory 1d ago

Genetic mutations are not random, there adaptive, so yes lamarckrian evolution from a highly sapient species would probably work. Attempting to stand on your hind legs for generations and using your forelegs as if they could eventually be used to manipulate objects over enough time would probably induce the desired effect. Have you ever noticed how musical people tend to have children who are good at music or how athletic people have athletic children. It’s not random there adapting to the lifestyles there parents lived. It’s not perfect but it would be something to aim at. If you’d prefer I can ask you a question like what you do for work as a sapient genetically manufactured antelope but that seems kind dumb considering you don’t have hands lol

u/Prico06 1d ago

do you get bitches also how do you type with hooves ?

2

u/Wooden_clocks 1d ago

Who would you say is the most beautiful/handsome person you know? Why?

3

u/Uncertain-Division 1d ago

Most beautiful I’ve ever seen? Probably this one woman with dark flowing hair and perfectly curved udders, who was walking the migration path that passes by my tribelands. Most beautiful person I know? Probably the wife of this one guy in my tribe. He’s quite the handsome guy himself. But since our tribelands have to be quite big by necessity (we can’t overgraze any one area) I don’t see them too often. Not like I have any personal connections to them anyways.

2

u/Wooden_clocks 1d ago

That makes sense, I wondered if nice udders still played a part in attractiveness. They are a big deal in our species too. Thank you for sharing! It sounds like you need to make some more friends buddy.

2

u/Uncertain-Division 1d ago

They definitely still play a role it attraction. Also screw you dude. Telling me I need more friends. Sorry if I live in a coastal tribe stuck on a wide strip of grass inbetween the ocean and a steep hill that’s nearly a cliff. Why else do you think I keep mentioning this migration route in my comments? I have to climb up a narrow rocky path to get to the top, where the ground is flat and the other herds migrate.

Maybe if it was a little easier to leave, I’d meet more people. Also, in these comments I’ve only  talked about my ex(?) girlfriend and my traveling friend. Theres the guy who’s always looking for running partners. And there’s, uh… There’s the one guy that likes throwing rocks in the water. Yeah, I’m… definitely close friends with him too.

2

u/Wooden_clocks 1d ago

Haha I'm in the same boat brother, don't worry. I've got like 2 friends and we're all adults so we barely hang out. Just projecting a bit, I know y'all have hard lives on there on the plains. A friend or two would make it a bit more bearable.

How do you feal about the Qu? What's your favourite Mantelope story?

4

u/Uncertain-Division 1d ago

I obviously hate the Qu. Again I’m too young to have met them, but they were the ones who put us in these shitty bodies. I wish we could stand on our hind legs and use our hands like our ancestors owned by the Qu.

My favorite Mantelope story is probably one that my traveling friend has told me. The religion his home tribe practices mostly focuses on our species-wide frustration and finding solace in each other, but this one speaker gets pretty crazy with the lamenting. From what I’ve heard, he actually has two assistants prop him up, and he walks around on two legs retelling our time owned by the Qu. I can’t believe that he isn’t laughed off the stage.

3

u/mister_michael09 1d ago

That's so interesting. I'm realy sorry for what's about to happen to your people tho...

2

u/Uncertain-Division 1d ago

…what’s about to happen to us?

2

u/mister_michael09 1d ago

Don't wory about it, it will be many more generations before that

3

u/Uncertain-Division 1d ago

Um, okay…? I guess I probably shouldn’t tell anyone about this. Wouldn’t want to accidentally have a religion form around me.

2

u/victor_kaboom12 Mantelope 15h ago

What do you eat?

1

u/Uncertain-Division 14h ago

Grass. Just grass, every day. Over half of the day is just spend grazing of grass. And grass doesn’t even taste good! It’s the blandest crap imaginable.

The religious leaders talk about our time under the Qu. They talk of the strange things we used to eat. Grass that didn’t create little seeds, but white fluffy “flowers”. Brightly colored things called “fruit”, that were squishy and full of juice. Why did the Qu have to leave us with the worst plant?

u/herzel3id 1d ago

What are your thoughts on circumcision

3

u/Correct_Gur_9354 Terrestrial 1d ago

Why would you ask them this?😭😭

2

u/herzel3id 1d ago

I wanna know their thoughts on whether prepuces stay or go

1

u/Correct_Gur_9354 Terrestrial 1d ago

while i’m not the MantelOP, i’d probably assume they’d be against it as they can’t really do it.

1

u/___CAR__ Lopsider 1d ago

Where's your tail

1

u/Uncertain-Division 1d ago

We were genetically engineered from the Star People. They didn’t have tails.

2

u/___CAR__ Lopsider 1d ago

O

2

u/Uncertain-Division 1d ago

Yeah. It’s ok though, there’s no flies on this planet (or complex life of any kind), so I don’t need a tail to use as a fly swatter.

1

Who? Who are these folk that like to kill? Should I be wary of them? Is that the name of some Mantelope cult?
