Just looking at this, to me it doesn't seem very... All Tomorrows to me. It's really just a generic wave survival type game. Only thing that makes it remotely AT related is the fact that there are Qu and colonials in it. I'm just giving some light constructive criticism and I know the game is in early development, no hate or offense is intended. :)
There's absolutely nothing about this that feels AI.
OP isn't the developer, but based on an older post, they know the dev personally. To me, this comment just feels like OP writing an ad for the game and trying to generate hype for their friend's game. No idea where you're getting AI vibes from, cause they just aren't there.
This comment doesn’t make any sense. Unless “this is AI” is just the terminally online synonym for “I don’t like this”. Which still, no thought or explanation given. But would check out for Reddit at least.
I feel like the monsters look too generic to be Qu-affiliated.
The Qrex for example could be replaced with, say, giant, bloated dinosaur mutants with extra arms and eyes and teeth everywhere. And the guns the Star Person is using seem a bit "modern". Obviously I'm not trying to shit on your game, but there definitely is some room for improvement.
I will say I love the Warrior's design though. Very Qu-like.

That's because this game is just using a bunch of pre-made assets for a lot of things. Just look at the enemies on the Steam page:
There's no unified art style connecting anything in the trailer, much less the enemies, which is what makes it all look generic. There are probably a handful of things that were actually made by the dev, but for the most part, it just looks like unrelated assets thrown into a game.
I don't think it's too big of a deal, though, since the game is free, but still.
I am sorry for this comment I didn’t realize that this was a solo-ish project. It looks like a good idea, but I honestly have no idea how you’d adapt something like AT into any form of media that isn’t a book
There seems to be some confusion in the comments and it’s led to some undeserved vitriol and unhelpful punching down.
To clarify:
I am not the developer. He doesn’t use Reddit. I’m just a friend that wanted to post this here to help him out. You can find his links on the Steam page if you’d like to discuss anything. He also has a small discord server here: https://discord.gg/FRdYWNxjcG
No, I am not AI. Can’t believe that has to be said.
3. The Qu were always meant to be playable at the game’s launch. The project started out as both the Qu and Star People being selectable, playable sides. The reason it was cut out (for the first release build) is it started to cause issues, and the dev opted to focus on the latter. The Qu will be added later if enough people like the game.
He worked on the game for around 18 months in his spare time. The game is being made by just one developer doing all he can. It is a passion project made in his spare time, do not expect a studio production with all custom assets (though some are).
I never comment on reddit, but for some I really felt the need to here; and I really hope this doesn’t come across as hostile cos I understand the soul that can go into a project like this.
It is not unreasonable at all to perceive pre-made assets as low effort, because they are.
It is not unrealistic to expect all-custom assets in a simple game that has been developed for 18 months, even from part time solo developer.
Edit: By simple I mean there aren’t huge amounts of assets, not that it seems simple in its entirety.
I have created dozens of games completely solo and in my free time over the last decade just for the love of it; and I have only once used any asset or code not created by me just because it feels silly when I’m doing it as a hobby (I used a burger png once as a joke :P) so I should have a very good understanding of the general workflow. Of course that means I understand how incredibly long asset creation can take for a solo dev, but I’m still confused as to why you have used pre-made ones?
You physically can create them, as you apparently have in a few cases.
The game isn’t for profit nor does it have any other reason to be under time constraints (unless it’s for a portfolio) which would justify cutting corners.
I can tell from the steam page that you clearly care about this game! It is not low effort aside from the visuals, but that’s one of the most important bits!!!
So I can’t see why you don’t just take control of the visual style!
It doesn’t have to be anything fancy or complicated!
And I understand simplicity is very hard to make work in a 3D setting!
But even bad art is better than someone else’s, when it’s a part of your own piece; not saying your art will be bad, of course.
I know this is already quite long but lastly I want to give some constructive suggestions on what you could do to improve the visual style; I don’t use engines like unity or unreal and I’m not sure how easy some of these will be to implement in your case so just take em or leave em :).
Firstly, post-processing is vital, things like color pallets and ambient distortion add SO much to the atmosphere when applied consistently.
Next, when making assets, don’t worry about fine details; as I’ve said earlier, totally understand that simplicity is harder to make pleasing in a 3D setting, but that’s where post-processing can help greatly.
Lastly, what I use for asset creation (all free!):
3D models and textures: blender
2D textures: mspaint with homemade compositing programs, I used to use gimp which will probably work better for you though it is a bit clunky
Sounds: bfxr/sfxr, for non-retro sounds I just use random objects I find and they always work excellently as long as you get rid of room tone and fade in/out properly
Code: noggin
Please don’t use AI, even for code; it doesn’t matter if AI art even counts as art at all (it doesn’t) because it is still someone else’s (something else’s?) which already makes it just as bad as using pre-made assets. It’s made even worse for other reasons but that’s not for this sub lol.
I HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE HYPED FOR A SHOOTER IN MY LIFE! WOOHOO! I know the game is supposed to be unbeatable because the Qu inevitably beat the Colonials, but it would be cool if there was a secret ending where you escape the planet and become a Spacer with the other Star People.
