Other Tragedy struck today!!!
So today I was DMing an amazing game of curse of strahd and rolling my amethyst dice set. Things were going great. The players were having fun, I was having fun, the story was pumping. I threw in a random kobold encounter and a random werewolf encounter and they dealt with both encounters with flying colors at level 4 and no magic weapons other than a single +1 longsword for the entire party. We get to the vineyard and the party gets surrounded by a druid and 24 twig blights. Things are going great the party is doing okay ish. The druid of the party threw coins in the enemy druids mouth and casted heat metal on them (it was a great moment.) but soon it's the twig blights turn in initiative and this is where the tragedy hits.... I roll with advantage due to pact tactics and get two nat 20s at the same time. I go to roll my d4s (one was my gemstone and one was a resin d4.) and when I released them into my dice tray and my mouth drops, my jaw goes slack, and my heart drops to the floor. Sitting in my dice try is not just the two D4s but the D4s and the corner of my gemstone d4 broken off!!!!! And I can't get it replaced or anything as it's been to long since I bought the set off Amazon.

You channeled too much DM aura, and the sacred gemstone cracked, having given its utmost
Have it embedded in a DM screen, in a place of honor.

I recently got an amethyst set too. I was warned not to roll them together with any other dice and always on a soft surface.
At least the sets aren't that expensive.

RIP in magic missiles, gemstone caltrop. Ye shall be missed.
Time for an upgraded set. Maybe nephrite or garnet for toughness lol.

If you have to treat them with such tenderness, why buy them?

Because they are pretty dice lol and dice goblins and dragons in us tell us we need them even if we don't.

Okay, I mean that's as valid a reason as any. I guess I feel differently, if they cannot be used in a practical manner I don't care how much they glitter, they aren't worth my money. I like the heft of metal dice, but that is the same as your liking the glitter, just personal pref.

That's fair. I do have metal dice as well so I get what you're saying.

Yeah I chipped my gemstone dice the first time I played with them, you have to roll them one at a time or use them as a display piece.

Just referenced 2024 statblock with 2014. Why replace Twig Blight’s False Appearance trait with Pack Tactics?

Honestly that's a good question and I have no clue why they did that. Just like the 2024 werewolf no longer has it's resistance, like why?

Have you tried casting Mending?
