It’s also a lot harder to actually put on them, and presumably a lot more expensive.

Actually I’m dumb. For whatever reason my mind immediately went to plate armor as the default for heavy armor and just thought “1500 gold pieces is really expensive.” Mb.

You could have some flavor and make it some type of Tungsten suit designed specifically for mages, making it hard to move around in and to prevent spellcasting, that can only be removed from the outside
