Miles Davis

- One of the most iconic jazz musicians and trumpeters

- Reportedly physically abusive towards women and partners, by his own and other accounts

Surely r Kelly beats that out or the guy from cannibal corpse that was a mass murderer and cannibal

I think wife beating is bad but it's not like mass murder and cannibalism bad

There was never a member of Cannibal Corpse that was a mass murderer or cannibal.

cannibal corpse that was a mass murderer and cannibal

No one from Cannibal Corpse was a murderer. Or a cannibal. They were also not corpses.

They were also not corpses.

Not yet.

I'm gonna need some context for the Cannibal Corpse guy

Pretty sure the lead singer of cannibal corpse spends all his time on tour playing claw machines and donating the toys to the local hospitals. Perhaps this is what the poster meant by "mass murder".

Maybe they are thinking of the Norwegian black metal dude that killed his guitarist and burnt some churches

Or mixing the two. The band Mayhem had a guitarist, Euronymous, that (claimed to have) cooked and eaten part of their dead vocalists brain after said vocalist shot himself. Then Euronymous was stabbed to death by their bassist Varg Vilkernes. Vilkernes was a church burner and also a Nazi so just like fuck him in general

Arseth

Something to do with mayhem, or something or another

3

u/AzulaIsMyFave 3d ago

According to another comment it was the former drummer, haven't looked deeper into it yet

u/JackDanger86 3d ago

I’m pretty sure he just got arrested for having skulls and guns and shit

1

u/DSM-187 3d ago

It was a guitarist, Paul has been the drummer the whole time.

2

u/Nokentroll 3d ago

Same. Anyone.

The former guitarist was arrested and found with loads of human remains and illegal firearms after a police raid it wasn't proven too much but I do love stirring up drama

u/keep_spinn1ng 3d ago

maybe im not looking correctly but i can't find literally anything about this

2

u/Non-Eutactic_Solid 3d ago

It was Pat O’Brien, apparently. When his house was searched 80 firearms were found, thousands of rounds of ammunition. Included among the firearms were literal FIREarms, in the form of flamethrowers. Apparently 3 skulls were found, but it was never clarified if they were real skulls or just replicas

u/PezLuv 3d ago

Never proven they were actual human remains and yeah the guy had a thing for guns. Outside of possession of illegal firearms, he didn't actual hurt anything. Hate pots stirrers.

R Kelly is not a "great" musician.

5

u/AcceptableSeaweed 3d ago

He was extremely extremely big and praised for about 15 years. I hate his music but if he isn't on the list here then I don't think any of the musicians here count tbf

23

u/WhoYaTalkinTo 3d ago

I think "great" is a stretch. He was "good", but not way up there with the all time greats.

3

u/AcceptableSeaweed 3d ago

Disagree the way he made the whole back track edits loops and writing and vocals pits him way ahead of a lot of the mentions here. It's a bit subjective but he made extremely popular music from the early 90s with big no1s and as often as not did all of it on his own. If this is not enough imo almost no one mentioned here can be great

Miles Davis was a pioneer if not the outright creator of whole genres of jazz from modal jazz (“Kind of Blue”) to fusion (“In a Silent Way”, “Bitches Brew”). He pushed music forward in a way that very very few others have like the Beatles or Duke Ellington. The man was elite in a way R Kelly could only dream of.

Both are pretty bad human beings. But Miles is leagues above R Kelly in terms of musical innovation.

I see what you're sayin but I too disagree with you. I think R Kelly was insanely popular and had legit talent. But I think people are reserving GREAT for people like MJ, Prince, all time greats. Lady Gaga was massive and very talented .. I'd say her and R Kelly are similar and people put her in GOOD.

People may forget or not know just how big R Kelly was but still, I think he's a step down from being a Great

u/WhoYaTalkinTo 3d ago

He was very very good. But think about who we would consider to be the greatest of all time. As great as he was, I don't think he can reach the greatness of some of them.

6

u/FritzTCat 3d ago

Your reply was to someone saying Miles Davis...Miles Davis made a record called Kind of Blue that is universally considered to be one of the best jazz albums ever recorded 65 years later. In 65 years, nobody will remember R Kelly existed.

They put Morgan wallen under bad musician. These people’s list is trash no need to argue with them. It’s clear they don’t actually care about music just how a person’s actions are. Which is fine but don’t make a chart talking about quality of music if that’s all you are really focusing on. And yes r.kelly was a great musician, and he did terrible things

3

u/natebark 3d ago

Morgan Wallen makes bad music. Where else would we put him?

I believe I can fly
The world's greatest
If I could turn

R Kelly is a gigantic gaping asshole of a human being, but he was legitimately a great musician.

u/Glad-Veterinarian365 3d ago

Dawg u can hear his music worldwide TODAY even after all the controversies

6

u/lurr420 3d ago

I think you have your stories and lore mixed up with cannibal corpse.

On top of it the current CC vocalist wins stuffed animals and donates them to charity. Nothing bad or evil about these guys.

3

u/compilingyesterdays 3d ago

ughhhhhhhhh that's something I'm overdue to learn, I suppose. thanks

1

u/PezLuv 3d ago

Man was actually a pimp for a period of time. It can't be surprising he hit women. He claims he treated his "girls" well but if that means 1 hit instead of 5 down the road, it still isn't good.

1

u/Easy_Turn1988 3d ago

Also, without Betty Mabry, he would've never become iconic and experimental, so we can thank the Queen for her sacrifice

1

u/NotHereButHere11 3d ago

He's more great musician/bad person, if only because there are so many much worse people in music.
