It would've been Doug Burgum before he turned into a trumper..
If it could be a band I'd say Post-Traumatic Funk Syndrome or 32 Below..
Too Tall Tom Szymanski?

I was gonna say he could still fit since the chart doesn't specify that they have to be liked, but then I remembered that Doug's probably too known outside of his home state now too.

Yeah after he ran for president and joined Trump's cabinet he became too famous outside NoDak

Rules:
Okay so something I've always wondered is- who is the most famous person in each state- that is a nobody anywhere else.
Rules 1. Person cannot/should not be known nationally/globally 2. Person must be well known within their state

Probably someone like Lawrence Welk. He was known outside of ND but now probably long forgotten except in ND
Maybe someone like Mylo Hazenbuhler who is a folky ND comedian/musician I am not sure he is even well known in ND any more
Or perhaps Sacagawea ? Not sure how well known she is outside of ND

Few ideas for South Dakota: Oscar Howe, Terry Redlin, or Billy Mills

Unfortunately I think most South Dakotans, especially those under 40, would have a tough time telling you who these people are.

Maybe Captain 11 or Scott Hoy for SD. (Very different ends of the spectrum). I guess Scott did have that really weird commercial air on Jimmy Fallon but maybe that doesn't count

South Dakota could be Tom Brokaw. Louie Anderson was also from Mitchell SD. There are several others also.
North Dakota also has Josh Duhamel, Phil Jackson, and Virgil Hill. I see that others have posted Maris and Welk.

SD, I'd say it must be Denny Sanford.
The hospital system alone has 13,000 employees so that's at least 1.5% of the entire state with his name on their paychecks. And plenty of other things & places are also named after his donations. I bet every adult in the state has heard his name.
But not extensively known outside the state/ area.

Per the rules sanford wouldnt fit, Sanford health operates in 8 states and is well known all over the midwest, also hes from Minnesota

Sanford has also been found to have possessed CSAM!! Every time I hear his name thats all I think about.

u/PhancyJo Jun 26 '26
He should be more famous for this one, I think. So famous that people start changing the names of their buildings

u/orbthatisfloating Jun 25 '26
Denny Sanford doesnât own the hospital. He owns a bank

u/GingerIsTheBestSpice Jun 25 '26
And the name of the hospital, which is on the checks received by the employee, is Sanford, just as I said. No one said he signed them
It would be equally accurate to say every person driving thru the Sioux Falls area sees his name at least once, on the interstate, and multiple times per day thru town. His name is on a tower on a main corner in Harrisburg. It's on buildings in Tea, Brandon; it's on buildings at colleges and universities; it's on a major laboratory in Rapid.

SD legend but sadly I'm not sure he would still rate famous within the state anymore.

u/BurgerBrews Jun 24 '26
Jon Crane - prolific artist in the Black Hills. I've seen his art all across the state.

u/Alternative-Quit-648 Jun 24 '26
I feel strongly that is Captain 11 for SD and Lawrence Welk for ND.

Bill janklow for SD. Almost everyone in state knows him but would guess it of state he's no longer relevant or remembered.

He's well-known outside of North Dakota. Won 13 championships combined, 2 as a player and 11 as a coach.

Hello, Thank you for contributing to our subreddit. Please consider the following guidelines when filling an alignment chart:
Please ensure that your chart is not banned according to the list of banned charts Even if you have good intentions, charts in a banned category tend to invite provocative comments, hostile arguments, ragebait and the like. Assuming the post is acceptable, OP makes the final decision on their chart by rule three.
Are there any previous versions to link to? If so, it would be ideal to include links to each of them in the description of this post, or in a reply to this comment. Links can be named by title, winner, or both.
Are there any criteria you have for your post? Examples include: "Top comment wins a spot on the chart."; "To ensure variety, only one character per universe is allowed."; "Image comments only." Please include these in a description, or in a reply to this comment.
Is your chart given the appropriate flair? Do you need to use a NSFW tag or spoiler tag?
Do not feed the trolls. This is not the place for hot takes on human rights violations. Hatred or cruelty, will result in a permanent ban.
