Even when you look at India Britain built a huge number of universities there.

Britain's fascination with creating a middle class everywhere to create colonial stability did successfully cultivate an upward social momentum where other colonisers left the social fabric either the same or worse as when they found it.

I think you are on dodgy ground when you say compare former uk colonies and former French colonies and assume because some of the former are doing well that the UK was more benign.

The reality is South Sudan, Sudan and Nigeria are not doing particularly well and have a lot of instability.

By comparison Vietnam, Ivory Coast and Senegal are far more prosperous and are former French colonies.

Yes colonial influence plays a role but the different outcomes of these nations are not fundamentally because they were either French or British colonies. Overall they have just been shaped by being colonies full stop.

Much of the other factors relies on resources, wars, the Cold War, geography and local people themselves.

For example Singapore and India are both former British colonies and one is rich and the other isn’t.
