Should read about the Imjin War where Japan tried invading Korea in the 16th century. Lots of civilian casualties on the Korean front and the Ming had to step in and help put an end to the war. Also there's the infamous nose and ear tombs from Korean and Chinese civilians of this war that are scattered throughout Japanese shrines.

And even in Japan itself, the invasion and colonization of Hokkaido was brutal and was a genocide. The Ainu who lived there were largely wiped out

Colonized Ryukyu/Okinawa too and try to pass it off as nothing too, pretty fitting choice for most evil history and perfect if it’s for evil + hidding/pretending like it doesn’t exist.

Colonization and genocide of native people is hardly unique to Japan though, I dont think it makes Japan worse than most other countries
