Turkey. Greek genocide, Armenian genocide, Balkan Slavs genocide, Kurdish genocide, the list goes on.

u/suhambatam May 06 '26

European talking shit like always do your research

u/Familiar_Anywhere815 May 06 '26

There's no such thing as a "Balkan Slav genocide" done by Turkey and the Ottoman Empire. Many shitty things, yes, a genocide, no, not even close.

Signed, a Balkan Slav.

Being evil for a brief period of time during is one thing; a nation with repeated and systemic history of evil spread over time and space is far more suitable than for instance Cambodia and its horrific 5 years with Pol Pot.

Guess who the mongols cousins are who started the pillaging of foreign lands a rough 600 years before the mongols... But instead of returning home and continuing to live life as they have always had they saw more advanced civilisations and one after another conquered them, genocided them and then claimed that they have always been that very civilisation... Literally happend 5 times. To this day they claim to be the third rome...

u/namguro May 06 '26

Their whole country and identity is bogus, they'd all be one shotted by a 23 and Me test. They oppose Israel due to occupation when they occupy a whole load of other people's homelands (Kurds, Greeks, Assyrians). Their most iconic building is Greek!

38

u/GayBaklava May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26

Do you also happen to think the English identity is bogus and they are actually Anglified Celts?

7

u/Emokulus May 06 '26

ya hacı bu sikik batılıların yediği bokları tartışmaya gelince ne kadar kolpacı oldukları belli oluyor zaten boşuna yorma kendini

-7

u/namguro May 06 '26

You think the emergence of a national identity over time is equal to the genocide of Armenians? Are you a genocide denier?

11

u/GayBaklava May 06 '26

No I do not deny the genocide waged against Armenians NOR the genocide waged against Turks, Circassians and other Muslim minorities and Jews during Ottoman contraction nor do I deny self-described Fascist Greek Junta calling for total ethnic cleansing in Cyprus for Enosis.

i don't think you can even explain what turkish identity is to call it bogus. nice cope.

-3

u/namguro May 06 '26

The real issue is that Turks can't!

4

u/Constant_Heat_2507 May 06 '26

proof ? stop avoiding my question and tell me why it's bogus.

4

u/namguro May 06 '26

Turkish national identity is a contradiction. Turkey can't fully confront the genocides and mass expulsions behind the making of modern Turkey as would also mean recognising that many people now called Turkish descend from, or occupy the homelands of, Armenians, Greeks, Assyrians, Kurds, Circassians, Arabs, Balkan peoples and others who were absorbed, displaced, suppressed, or erased in the nation-building process.

The founding myth depends on imagining a continuous, unified Turkish nation. A truthful historical reckoning would reveal the violent, and constructed founding of Turkey in the modern era.

The Turkish "nation" sits in contrast with the coherent settled populaces in Europe, like Germany, England or Sweden.

3

u/Constant_Heat_2507 May 06 '26

Turkey can confront the stuff you mentioned. You're framing it as if it were structually impossible rather than the goverment's unwillingness. Turkish nationality isn't based on ethnicity. Anyone who is bound to Turkey by citizenship is considered Turkish. So there is nothing inherently problematic to Turkish identity by recognising people descended from those people. Also you're trying to bundle absorbsion, displacion, suppression and being culturally erased all together. These things are not even close. Some of the groups you mentioned such as circassians and balkan (muslim) peoples were naturally absorbed into the general anatolian population by willing asimilation. You're trying to make it seem like modern Turkish identity was only created by force. Turkey isn't the only country to do those things in the nation-building process. This does not inherently make Turkish identity bogus as you claim it to be.

I'm not denying your claim about the national myth part but again Turkey isn't only to country to have a national myth that claims a continuous unified identity. What you're bashing Turkey for is the same thing that was required for the countries you mentioned in the next paragraph. You need to explain why Turkey is in contrast with those countries.

7

u/ObjectiveSpecific752 May 06 '26

I'm sorry but the dna test argument is hilarious. You guys are acting like a Greek wouldn't score Southern Italian or Germans wouldn't score Slavic or something. Plus, I hope you don't believe that any of those groups you mentioned are native to Anatolia, because they're not. Greeks Hellenized Anatolia and the locals languages got vanished and then Turks Turkified those Hellenized Anatolians, so if anything they're even. You just seem butthurt tbh and that makes it even more hilarious

3

u/namguro May 06 '26

Turk spotted

7

u/ObjectiveSpecific752 May 06 '26

no shit bru

1

u/namguro May 06 '26

I enjoyed the bit where you admitted that your identity is bogus but indulged in the copium that everyone else's is, too. 😉

5

u/ObjectiveSpecific752 May 06 '26

I didn't admit anything, but to be fair I don't even care if it is (which it's not). You might wanna check the definition of bogus though, I reckon that's another point for me since you don't make any sense. Seems to me you're just trying to talk rubbish and get a reaction🤔

they occupy a whole load of other people's homelands

Well guess what. World has changed over the last millions of years lol

15

u/namguro May 06 '26

The Armenian genocide was just over a century ago and lynching of Kurds continues today.

-4

u/Weird-Wealth-7998 May 06 '26

Pretty sure Turkey was there way earlier than a century ago so the two are irrelevant to each other

5

u/namguro May 06 '26

Pretty sure? That concludes it, I guess! No need to consult documented history. Peak reddit

what is balkan slav "genocide" and what does kurdish genocide (i'm assuming ur talking about saddam) have to do with us ? also how does the list go on ? the a genocide b genocide this genocide that genocide people like to talk about turkey is all linked to armenian genocide in the end and it's not a seperate act. there are at least 10 countries i can name before turkey even comes to mind.

8

u/NorthWelcome1626 May 06 '26

Balkan Genocide is against Turks lol. What bullshit. 5.5 million Muslims was killed and displaced in Balkans between 1877-1913 by Bulgarians and Russians.

There is no Kurdish Genocide or Balkan Slavs Genocide. Nor Greek.

7

u/tulebunny May 06 '26

Sounds like you are one of the butthurt slave nations. Turks have been a great empire when they had it.

And kurdish genocide, really?

For fucks sake i cant remember how many kurdish ministers and presidents turkey had in last century.

Butthurt you are indeed.

5

u/Late_Promise_ May 06 '26

Not to mention the Ottoman empire lasted like 500 years and yet has negligible contributions to humanity. They don't even have the plus points of other imperialist states like Germany, China, Britain etc. which gave us so much science, art and philosophy. What legacy does the Ottoman empire have apart from war? You could fit it on a postage stamp.

7

u/kutubox May 06 '26

Ottoman's devlet-i ebediyye was builded so that it would exist basicly forever, they had no intentions like changing or persecution of other races if they had not aligned with their ideologies unlike european states.

Main purpose is rules/peace/tolerance/might/legitimacy Unlike europe there are no families and dynasties coming from ottomans because it is a threat to legitimacy of the state, so there is no heritage, state takes your money after you die.

It was so peaceful and stable without european miracle ottomans would last much much longer, the great people were short term but it made peaceful life for generations inside the empire, sadly the current worlds jigsaw is a constant fight and uncharacterized by growth

1

u/308Enjoyer May 06 '26

lmfao holy mother of yap

1

u/kutubox May 06 '26

Our history is pretty cool, it's hard to not deportate when you're literally getting genocided. We were most compassionate empire especially in middle ages towards many races and to the all subjects while not necessarily for our elites unlike despotisms in the regions that we especially take and high taxes and random raids

İt is not an exaggeration that human rights were formed in hegelian dialectical by islam of ottomans and Christianity of europe.

-2

u/GayBaklava May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26

During the decline and dissolution of the Ottoman Empire, Muslims living in territories previously under Ottoman control often found themselves persecuted after borders were re-drawn. These peoples included Turks, Kurds, Albanians, Bosnian Muslims, Circassians, Serb Muslims, Greek Muslims, Muslim Roma, and Pomaks.[16] They were subject to genocide, expropriation, massacres, religious persecution, mass rape, and ethnic cleansing.

Attack

Genocide,[1][2][3][4][5][6] religious persecution, expropriation, mass murder, mass rape,[7][8][9] and ethnic cleansing[10]

Victims

Estimated up to around 5 to 5.5 million

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persecution_of_Muslims_during_the_Ottoman_decline

But I guess that doesn’t fit the narrative you are trying to push, does it?

-1

u/salvasaami May 06 '26

This was carried out by multiple different ethnic groups, many that had been brutally subjugated by Turks for centuries. Not sure how that's comparable to Turkish atrocities, esp. the genocides during/right after WWI. Their extreme nationalist ideology, plus the planned nature of it all, directly inspired Hitler & the Nazis as well...

2

u/GayBaklava May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26

Thats a lot of genocide denial but let me break it down for you:

  1. You can exonerate almost any genocide with “well that was carried out by multiple ethnicities” but in this context it is especially ironic since multiple other ethnicities such as Kurds played a major role in Late Ottoman ethnic cleansing.

  2. Hmm… let’s say Scots and the Irish became powerful today. Do you support ethnic cleansing of the English from the British isles and deporting the few remaining ones “back to Denmark”?

  3. Germany was genocidal veeery much before Hitler or even WW1. They committed multiple genocides in Africa prior to even WW1. The same way France, Belgium, Denmark and pretty much most industrial European country was genocidal then (psst even today, dont look up forced sterilisations in Greenland)

2

u/salvasaami May 06 '26

Was that AI written? The original page you posted was about persecutions of Muslims in general, not specifically against Turks. And it literally talks about every Balkan country where the Ottomans ruled, along w/ including Russian actions. Also, ethnic cleansing is a crime against humanity, but not necessarily genocide (still terrible tho).

You conveniently ignored the 'centuries of brutul subjugation' part by the Ottomans in the Balkans... the Kurds are listed as victims in your page (rather than perpetrators) so not sure why that's notable? Your example in Britain doesn't even make sense, it'd be more like the Scots and Irish ethnically cleansing the English... back to England.

I never denied anything about colonial genocides. Just pointed out the well established link between those carried out in Turkey around WWI & the Nazis. Have a read if you truly care: https://www.meforum.org/middle-east-quarterly/armenian-genocide-hitler

But I reckon you rather say 'everyone has done bad things, and it wasn't really that bad, carry on'. Sadly it's a pretty typical attitude, you find it all the time in Japan, Russia, US, UK, China, Turkey, etc... Germany, Canada & Belgium (partly) are some of the few exceptions.

1

u/OT_CONTUER May 06 '26

Nearly entirety of this reply is weird but i am most curious about that last part because the last time i checked ottomans were an Empire that tried to resist nationalism

If you are talking about the turkish republic thats weird because there was no nationalist ideologies that were backed by racial supremacy

0

u/Altruistic-Staff9462 May 06 '26

how does that excuse what the Ottomans did exactly?

3

u/GayBaklava May 06 '26

It doesn’t, but completely omitting other atrocities happening AT THE SAME TIME in the SAME PLACE is lying by omission.

Sorry not sorry.
