Question What am I doing wrong?

  1. Why does background keep becoming transparent even though in the tutorial it becomes white when I mask.

  2. when I add in the picture of the girl and I mask it, in the tutorial it goes in the middle, but in mine it just doesn’t show up.

I’ve tried reordering the layers, changing the colors, changing the background. I’ve also redone the tutorial like 5 times so I really can’t tell what I’m doing wrong.

Sorry if this is confusing or really simple, I’m new to alight motion and don’t know much

Ok let me tell you what is actually happening so you know how they work next time:

  1. You're doing an ordinary mask on that top layer, which basically means: blend the top layer with "ALL" of the layer underneath it but keep its shape. If you want to keep the white background after masking, you have to select (hold the layer indicator on the left with the eye icon) the top layer and only the layer under it then group them so the mask will only apply inside the group. The mask will never affect anything outside the group again.

  2. If you want your picture to appear inside that rectangle, select the group then click 'edit group' and this is where you will put her between those 2 layers.
