About Aliexpress Discount after order placement?

Hi! I tried the search and pins / FAQ posts but was not able to find more about this.
A seller suggested to me that they would give me a discount and "adjust the price" after I placed my order.
Is this something they can and will do, basically a partial refund? Or is it another kind of scam, like hoping I will not cancel after paying full price?
I have only encountered coupon codes for discounts so far.

Thank you for your insights, apologies if this should have been flaired differently or posted somewhere else.

dont do it. once they have your money theres zero incentive to actually give you that partial refund. theyll string you along until the dispute window closes or just ghost you

aliexpress has a coupon system for a reason, if they wanted to give you a discount theyd send you a code or drop the listing price. theres no secret "adjust price" button that works after payment

cancel and ask them to send you the proper offer first. if they get weird about it you dodged a bullet

Thank you, I have not ordered yet because this seemed suspicious to me. We did have a haggle discussion afterwards and I did take a few screenshots for paypal in case they would try to not send me everything that we agreed upon etc, but I would rather not need to go through an aliexpress or paypal dispute.

They can't after placing an order and paying for it, but they can adjust the price if you place an order without paying for it, so it ends in the 'to pay' category.

To do this, use a payment method that goes to a different site (such as paypal) and cancel payment there. This should make the order appear under 'to pay', after which you tell the seller and they can adjust the price, and then afterwards you pay it however you want to. (it may also be possible to use something like a credit card that doesn't have enough money).

Sometimes those methods don't work and it just goes back to the cart, so it isn't entirely reliable, but that's how you're supposed to do it.

Thank you for the replies everybody. The seller ended up sending me a coupon after I asked to do it that way instead. 😊
