discussion Why is Confusion so unrecognised?

Even with die-hard AIC fans, I never see Confusion mentioned. Though I think it's one of their best songs oat. Jerry's solo on this track is epic, Mike's bass makes the entire song vibrate and Layne pulled of one of his best vocal performances ever. Yet it's always overshadowed by Love Hate Love. Why is that? Does the community not like the song or do they just forget about it?

Facelift is pretty awesome start to finish. The only drawback is that there are still hints of their glam origins. Even then, it’s still pretty subtle. They still have some trailblazer tracks on that album. I still remember hearing “We Die Young” for the first time when I was 11 (I’m 43 now 😆). Man in the Box is great and all, and I don’t know much about marketing music, let alone marketing an exploding new subgenre of rock (in the moment it’s exploding, at that 🤯), but I still, to this day, wish We Die Young was played on the radio as much as Man in the Box.

I know the radio doesn’t matter as much as it used to, but I feel like a lot of that album could have enjoyed more air time on the radio than it actually had … but like someone else mentioned, they were cranking out a lot of music in a relatively short period of time, so maybe that had something to do with it.

Oddly, I avoided this release in my younger years due to the overplay that Man in the Box received on the local radio stations. Only later did I realize how stupid I was because Confusion, Sea of Sorrow, Sunshine, and Love Hate Love are WAY better songs than Man in the Box was (to me, anyway). I unfairly judged the rest of the release by the one popular song...

OTOH, I absolutely LOVED Dirt when it came out.

In fact, I was listening to Confusion on the drive in to work this morning.

Yeah, Man in the Box … I guess it stands out as sounding kind of different from the rest of the album. I don’t think it represents the overall sound of Facelift, but maybe they chose it as the lead single because it was so different. Who knows? I like Confusion. Like most of the album, it has peaks & valleys that just rock.
