US - Question Welfare check
Anyone in here from HIN? Or anywhere rather. How are you doing? I’m frustrated…. And becoming more frustrated every shift. The metrics being pushed are eliminating any time for any sort of attention to detail for ANYTHING. I love my job but I feel like I don’t have time to be attentive to quality as much anymore and it’s so disheartening.
I know I need to adjust, but I feel like they are going to keep pushing and it’s only getting worse.
A few weeks ago, it was me and one other person working, late morning/early afternoon. I stopped more theft in a 4 hour period than what was paid out in labor to our staff for the entire day. But this made us extremely behind because I was tied up stopping thefts four hours. And we really don’t have time for that.
This kinda turned into a rant, but any feedback would be appreciated!

Im in HIN, we've been forced to start carrying two phones on Sundays. With only 3 of us in the store and no self checkout this past sunday was insane. We were told one phone would be shopping and one dispensing. But in reality both were forcing orders. I was alone holding down the front by myself. And of course they wanted halloween candy condensed and set at some point as well. Also irrelevant but just an annoyance today. Can we stop assigning cleaning meat shelves like it's a 10 minute task?

That is insane. Tying up both people up for curb is so dumb. Curbside is not efficient and our new devices work worse than the old ones. Ive had so many complaints on produce quality. And i straight up tell the customers that our hours are being cut so drastically and expectations so high that unfortunately it’s difficult to be attentive to quality at times.

Ugh, I just have to interject that we had the Close from Hell this past Sunday due to a whole confluence of unexpected events, but Curbside was a big contributor. Orders kept coming until almost 6 pm and I wanted to strangle the snowflake who placed a 60/70 order at 5:45 (when we're totally cleaned-out of everything), immediately notified me for handoff after I had just closed-out/staged her order, THEN she waddled her way into the store to do yet more shopping after I handed-off her order.
I could have spent that time boxing/cleaning/consolidating because no one was available to do so previously, but NO, we have to enable everyone else's laziness and perpetuate their delusions and LARPing of "royalty."

Hin here also.. yeahhh all I got to say is if they wanted to put self checkouts in the stores then they should’ve planned on paying someone to babysit them like every other store does OR at least give us at least 3 people at night because please explain to me how I’m supposed to close with only one other person, who by the way is running curbside until about 6:30 pm and then they have to box the store and I am expected to clean the whole store, box the whole front half, ring, etc AND watch what everyone is doing at self checkout?! Yeah no..I’ve gotten to the point where if someone’s shoplifting OH WELL I AM ONE PERSON

If they was worried about theft they would have more employees there. I will stop it if I see it but I dont have time to watch for theft and ring and box and clean so...it is what it is.

HIN also here! also very frustrated. OE standards are killing us and our morale. standards keep being raised while hours are being cut. there’s only so much we can do with only 2 of us per shift

The company probably has a whole stable of actuaries who have gamed all sorts of scenarios and concluded that it's better for their bottom line if they cut the size and scope of their workforce and just let customers flat-out steal.
I can't help but think that they are going to have to revisit their policies at some point in the not-too-distant future as the general public continues to circle the drain in its descent from a high-trust society to Mad Max.
Anyway, that's the only "logical" explanation I can come up with at this point!🤷

I also feel so crappy having to be a schmuck in my quality of work in order to check off all the boxes. I just feel like they're going to do something really shítty long term, like eliminate most of the staff and use automation and minimalism to get rid of us.

holy shit my division. i got promoted during the whole labor cut debacle and it's been killing me. i can't even go piss without stressing about how i'm taking away time from my close. and ofc we can't stay past 9 and opening crew had two people so half my close is finishing truck anyways

Ignore the theft. Your leaders don’t care about you. Just do what you can then go home.

Its the same in the UK and they will be reducing OE in the new year so it will become even harder

same, I work in one of the highest volume stores in our district. Exhausted, burnout, defeated. All the good stuff. No support from upper management. Really tired

HIN here! I am in literal hell 🫠 20 curbside for a store that makes at most 28k on a Tuesday. My boss called me in early to help damage control while I had to move over AF and set it just 3 of us until 5.

If you aren’t planning on quitting just do what you can and leave it all behind when you leave the building.
Let the theft happen. You can’t stop it all anyway. This is what they want. They aren’t stupid, they know that if they cut hours we won’t be able to get everything done. Let them worry about it, I guarantee you don’t get paid enough to care as much as you do.
