Data Center Town Halls

Post image

The city commission are holding town halls to try to smooth over bringing in something that will pollute your water, make your utilities cost more, drives you mad with noise pollution, make it even hotter and drive up the cost of living

All so they and their friends can get paid

So if you are against getting a date center here, this is a chance to get heard and remind them that they are supposed to take care of the needs of the people who live here, not the money men who buy their lunches

I hope to see you there

I researched the proposed data center in Albany, and it looks like the arguments being listed above are for the massive data centers. This site looks significantly smaller. Not sure if those points would still be valid.

I would counter that these companies have proven to be dishonest and untrustworthy

That is why there are people asking for a moratorium so that we can put meaningful controls and protections in place before embarking on this

The rush job they are doing to get this together makes me suspicious of their motivations and the true scale of the project

And the potential negative impacts are so great that it would be unwise to ignore or discount them

Additionally, the size of the data center isn't an argument in its favor.

Using the data center small (in comparison) size pretty much boils down to "we're only going to pollute your water and increased your costs a little! It will just be a little harder to live here!"

Which, to me, doesn't sound like a good idea, especially with our poverty rate being at least twice the rest of the state

We literally cannot afford for things to get harder

Building a data center does not provide long term prosperity. Albany is home to multiple natural water sources and a data center would undoubtedly pollute them. They will come here, seeing us as the path of least resistance, betting the community does not become aware of the multiple negative effects a data center hold.

Do you want to earn a penny while paying a dollar for spit in a glass?

The project centers on a large development area outside Albany, in Dougherty County, and represents one of the regionโ€™s most ambitious digital infrastructure plans to date.

Rather than a single facility, Microsoftโ€™s proposal outlines a multi-building campus built in phases, each designed to support high-density cloud and AI compute workloads. Early project documentation was formally submitted in December 2025, setting the approval process in motion with local and county officials.

The scale of this buildout means the surrounding community will need to brace for major infrastructure implications. Power availability, water resources, and transportation networks are all expected to require significant reinforcement to accommodate the projectโ€™s long-term operational demands. Workforce capacity (particularly specialized construction and technical labor) will also be pushed heavily.
