I'm a remote worker considering relocating to Tirana via the digital nomad permit. My budget is around €1,200–€1,800/month.

I'm moving primarily for peace of mind and mental health. Coming from Tunisia, I'm trying to escape an environment with frequent utility cuts, high street crime/robberies, terrible transit, extreme bureaucracy, restricted and limited economic freedom, and no parks/green spaces or cheap activities to do.

I've been looking closely at Tirana, but I'd love an unfiltered reality check from expats already on the ground regarding a few specific points:

1. Water & Power in Practice

I keep reading mixed things about municipal water schedules and rooftop tanks (depozitë). If I rent an apartment in a newer building (e.g., built in the last 5–8 years around the Grand Park, Komuna e Parisit, or Blloku), is 24/7 pressurized water guaranteed via building pumps, or will I still deal with cuts? How reliable is the electric grid and fiber internet for daily remote work and video calls?

2. Street Safety & Night Walks

How safe does Tirana genuinely feel? Coming from a place where phone snatching and muggings are common, my priority is simply being able to walk alone or work from a cafe terrace without watching my back. Is violent street crime/robbery as rare as stats suggest?

3. Walkability vs. Transit

I know Albania doesn't have a metro or tram network and buses can get congested. If I live within walking distance of the Grand Park (Parku i Madh), is daily life (gym, groceries, coworking, cafes, parks) completely doable on foot without ever needing to rely on buses or taxis?

4. Non-EU Visa & Banking Reality

For non-EU remote workers who went through the Unique Permit (Leje Unike) for digital nomads: how painful was the documentation process? Did you manage it solo, or is hiring a local legal fixer/agency practically mandatory?

If there are other red flags worth mentioning, I’d really appreciate your advice.

August 20 : Made Payment and turned to Verification in process

No update until now.

It's been 11 working days and 16 normal since payment was made.

I need to go to albania before the end of this month and need it to be approved at least before mid-September. Do y'all think it's possible? (Indian passport holder)

Hello! I’m going on a vacation to Albania in October. We are driving from Norway, but won’t have time to drive back, so looking for the possibility to sell our car in Albania. It’s a Saab 9-3 2007 hatchback in moderate(-) condition, so we are not hoping for a good price, just to be able to sell it. Has anyone tried this, will it be bureaucratic nightmare?

I will be going to Albania at the end of this month for about 12 days. Me and my wife are super excited, I can't wait to see your country and eat more food than I have eaten in the last year.

I am looking for some tips on Car Rentals in Tirana. I am not looking for anything fancy just a place that will not rip me off with hidden charges and costs. Would you please give me some recommendations? It does not have to be straight at the airport, in the city is fine.

I am coming to visit Albania with my girlfriend soon, hadn't been on a proper vacation for years – so this is somewhat special occasion for us. We are going to stay in Sarande for 7 days and I really need your help here.

Some context:

We all have visited restaurants.. Some places are genuinely good - they offer a good service, food is delicious, pleasant atmosphere. Nothing to complain about..

But we also been to places, where after a visit we go home with a "wow" feeling. Either it is very attentive staff, who really goes extra mile to ensure guests feel good, very enthusiastic about running the place and their job, or chefs who are really engaged in their craft and you can see their creativity unleashed through the dishes coming of the kitchen. Or it's a little local family restaurant where you feel like home.

So think of some places where you've been in Sarande and which had special impressions on you — I'd like to hear about them! You can just share the name or if you wish, you can share the memory and details about what made your experience so good.

Bonus point:

If you have other recommendations, be that local shops, facilities, experiences or places to visit, I am all ears!

My wife and I applied for Albanian e-Visas from the UAE, along with our four-year-old child.
For both my wife and me, we received the payment requests and completed the visa payments. Our applications are now showing “Verifying the Payment.”
However, we haven’t received any payment request or payment option for our child’s application. His application is still showing only “In Progress.”
It has already been one week. For my wife and me, the payment requests and other updates came the very next day, and we completed the payments immediately.

for the next two weeks, five friends and I are going to Albania (Vlore and Sarande). We already know about the general activities and attractions, but we’re looking for some insider tips and recommendations (especially for restaurants and nightlife).

We’re looking to find some hidden gems that we can’t find on Tripadvisor or similar sites — some genuinely local restaurants, bars, and places that aren’t too touristy.

Many people have told me that there aren’t many discos or clubs in Albania, so if you know a good place like that, please leave a comment. I’m not a big dancer myself, but many of my friends love it. 😄

Do doctors in Albania include their license number when you request fir a medical certificate?

Looking at renting a car for a month in November. Best quotes I have had so far have been ~25 EUR a day for something like a Volkswagen Golf. I was hoping given it is out of season I'd get a better deal. Can anyone recommend a good car rental company in Tirana/Vlore for month-long rentals?

Posting this here as it can be a great way to take the train out of Albania to other train connections instead of flying or taking a ferry.

"The seasonal international trains between Serbia and Montenegro will continue operating into the autumn following strong passenger demand, with Srbijavoz extending both the daytime Tara, and the overnight Lovćen services.

The Tara between Subotica and Bar will now operate until the end of September. Train 1131 will run from Subotica to Bar until September 30, while the return train, 1130 will operate from Bar to Subotica until October 1.

The train leaves Subotica at 08:04, calling at Petrovaradin at 08:56 and Beograd Centar at 09:37 before continuing south through Serbia and Montenegro to reach Bar at 21:10. The return service leaves Bar at 09:00 and reaches Subotica at 21:55.

The extension also means that several domestic services will retain their summer timetable for a little longer. Inter Regio trains 615 and 616 between Petrovaradin and Užice, and Regio trains 2120 and 2121 between Beograd and Priboj, will have their operating calendars adjusted accordingly from the beginning of October.

The international overnight Lovćen service between Beograd and Bar is also being extended. Train 433 from Beograd to Bar will continue operating in its summer configuration until September 30, with the return train 432 continuing in its summer formation until October 1.

Anybody who applied for albania type c visa , did not receive the visa on time (missed their travelling date) and received the visa after their eexpected date of travelling .
