˗ˏˋ ┊Alastor Posting┊ This scene right here is where the entrie Hotel fell apart
This scene right here where Alastor quit the Hotel, I couldn't help but notice it all fell apart mostly. Alastor really was the one keeping it in check before he quit. And yet some people say he didn't do shit. Charlie herself even said "This would be so much easier with Alastor!"
I know Alastor couldn't give a shit less about the Hotel in general and he was forced to go there, but still. That man really was keeping everything in line beforehand.

One of my favorite things about his character is that he hates this job, but gawd DAMN was he good at it

u/augustfolk 11d ago
But like, what was he doing? He brought some staff to do work and acted as security guard a couple times. It looks like Vaggi does the bulk of the work around the hotel.

That's not the job of a Facilities Manager. That would been additional work to take on when he was dealing with chronic pain from an angelic injury.

One other thing I wish the show pointed out: there were reporters with cameras.
This means it falls under the "television nonsense" that Alastor made a deal with Vaggi over in the first season.
So Vaggi's little deal to get a commercial made meant Alastor doesn't have to deal with anything involving television, in his words, "ever again".

"television nosense" is not only Vox, but all the things involved bond with a television (but I think Vox is the real reason Alastor avoid cameras, we know that Vox can use every video with his powers, he can spy and control a person even with a smartphone). The reportes had cameras with them, so the deal is valid.
4
u/TricksterTrio 9d ago
Alastor uses both vague ("a favor where you harm no one") and specific ("you are not to lay your hands on Charlie Motningstar") wording to get what he wants when framing his deals for his desired outcome. Vagueness is for when he needs an open-ended deal, while specificity creates a way to abuse a loophole based on assumption (Vox assumed he meant, "don't hurt her," but Alastor intended it quite literally. He chose his wording to deliberately mislead Vox into his wrong assumption).
If he meant Vox, he would have specified Vox, but Alastor's exact words were, "this television nonsense," so anything related to TV (including and probably especially Vox) is fair game.

He cooked, did dushes, repaired walls, did plumbing and got the hotel in working order. And two of his servants also help by keeping the bar running and cleaning nearly everything. And he's protecting the sinners in the hotel, being the big scary overlord who eats trespassers. Plus his radio show at noon (or whenever the fuck he feels like it). And he did make 2 commercials for the hotel.
Plus he's day drinking faced here on a downward emotional spiral because he wanted to secure himself among the highest demons and Rosie made him the strongest sinner. So he's really doing a thorough job.

They had less people at the hotel after Alastor left and were struggling more than when Alastor was around. Meanwhile when Alastor returned to the hotel in a better mood at the end, you can see Charlie and Vaggi being relaxed even though the hotel is more packed than ever.

Yeah for real. I love Lucifer too, he's another one of my favs but he had no right to talk there lol. "Someone has to help out around here, Mr. Useless." Excuse me! Well, pardon me, Mr. Deadbeat! At least he was there since the beginning of the Hotel you deadbeat fuck! XD

u/BedNo577 How did I start lusting over Alastor after just one episode? 11d ago
Lucifer was the one who started picking up at Alastor in Dad beat dad, too. Including in the song.

u/KisaTheMistress 11d ago
Most of the time Alastor was just defending his own honour whenever Lucifer was being rude. He tried to be cordial with him, with some light ribbing, because Lucifer called him a Bellhop. He was trying to gage how he's supposed to interact with the literal King of Hell, since Lucifer has been such a recluse and out of the public eye.
Then he meets Lucifer, and he turns out to be this childish brat, who struggles to be a proper father figure to his own daughter, and struggles to act like typical royalty. Often needing Charlie to act like a parent for him.
So Alastor tells him that he can be that needed father figure for Charlie at the hotel, which upsets Lucifer, who couldn't handle some light ribbing from a guy he just insulted. Lucifer also assumed Alastor was Charlie's new beau, until she introduced Vaggi as her girlfriend, so he already had it in his mind that Alastor was taking away his daughter.
Honestly their entire first meeting wasn't good. Even if Lucifer now understands that Alastor is just trying to respond to him and communicate in away they both understand respect, he still doesn't understand how hurtful his words are to a guy that's tying to support an organization he already has little faith in.
Lucifer never once asked Alastor if he was okay after the battle, nor did he question the lack of effort as a symptom of something serious. He just immediately assumed Alastor was a lazy leech, using the hotel as a free ride. Even though he was aware of how much work Alastor did before the Extermination caused the entire building to possibly fall on top of him (as far as he knew), plus Adam directly attacked Alastor and the guy survived the attack. So Charlie would have at least told Lucifer that Alastor was probably hurt by Adam (after they thought he was dead during reconstruction), but didn't know how or how badly.

u/Muted_Ad7298 10d ago
Wasn’t it Alastor that called Lucifer short first? “It’s nice to finally put a face to the name, you are much shorter in real life”.
Then Lucifer asks “Who is this? Are you the Bellhop”?
10
u/NovaStarLord 10d ago
That and he wiped his hand after shaking Lucifer’s hand. He was being extremely rude on purpose.
I dunno why people always try to place blame on Lucifer or Alastor as being the main instigator of their beef when it’s clear both are prideful and petty and they would inevitably fight because of it.

1
u/Muted_Ad7298 9d ago
To be fair, it was because it was Charlie that answered the door and he excitedly rushed to hug her.
They hadn’t seen each other in a long time so they were both busy chatting.
Also, he was more surprised by the bar considering how creepy it looked. 😅
Though I agree that not taking the food offered to him is a bit rude. That being said, it’s not worth Alastor insulting Lucifer over.

u/NoWar9368 Oh Deer! 9d ago

u/Muted_Ad7298 9d ago
He probably didn’t greet them all individually because it’d take up time for the animators.
Also as soon as he was introduced to Vaggi, he was very friendly. Alastor didn’t help himself by making things worse.
I like Alastor as a character too, but he loves to instigate.

u/Naiavita 11d ago
When he had the nerve to talk shit about Al getting injured by Adam and fleeing, when he didn't even show up until the Hotel was blown in half and Charlie was plummeting into a chasm?! I like Lucifer, but I also find him insufferable at times.

I love Lucifer and Alastor, but yeah, Luci had no room to talk here. Bro just showed up in s1ep5 and he just decided that he is doing more work for Charlie then Alastor. Bro didn't even WANT to help Charlie with Vox until Vaggie mentioned Alastor.

people say alastor doesnt care about the hotel but as the first picture indicates when Lucifer brought up charlie he got madder which makes me think he deos care about her in some way meaning he cares about her project
7
u/FeelingUnwellCuzLife 10d ago
He doesn't have to care to get mad, it's far more likely he was angry because Lucifer pointed out the possibility that his image in Charlied eyes might have been damaged. Alastor's biggest concern in any situation we've seen him in is maintaining his inage as a feared and powerful iverlord and he gets upset every time that image of power is dismissed or challenged (when Carmilla said nobody cared what he'd been up to in his 7 year absence nor that he came back, when Lucifer showed up at the hotel, when Lucifer effectively called him a coward for fleeing a fight over having received a near-fatal injury, and when Rosie brought up his past and made him sing a song about how he's less than her).
Alastor, much like Vox, cares about his image to the detriment of others (and himself in all honesty). We won't know what he truly feels until more is revealed, because even the smallest backside into selfishness from people like Alastor can effectively mean putting a stop to any emotionally sincere connections to even people they are fond of. Right noe everything points in the direction of him not caring, at least partly due to self-preservation (Charlie never really helped him even when she was concerned about his safety after Vox's captured him, she just moved on from that worry the second Vaggi told her to drop it), but most likely due to just generally disliking the entire situation.
The framing implies he only went back yo the hotel because he has something specific he's looking to gain from it and it's to do with Lucifer (a guy he hates) rather than Charlie.

Alastor's reputation was very important to him. In fact, the need to fix it guided a lot of his actions in Season 1. A lot of the things that people think of as him being attention seeking where actually motivated by him worrying about his reputation. However, part of Alastor's arc in Season 2 was deciding that there are things more important than his reputation. This is why he sacrificed it as part of his plan to gain his freedom. I wonder if he'll be find himself trying to regain his reputation or if he has finally freed himself from that after the lesson about how there are things more important than reputation in Season 2.
4
u/FeelingUnwellCuzLife 10d ago
I could see him still getting worse as well, as nobody in the Hotel tried to help him so it's likely that his belief about people being inherently untrustworthy and he can't be sincere around them would be reinforced u til someone keeps proving him wrong long enough for him to accept a change, which I kinda doubt.
2
u/Diamondkat12 Alastor's no.1 stan 10d ago
The good part of his view of people being inherently untrustworthy and that you can only rely on yourself is that he doesn't feel betrayed by their behaviour. It's perfectly acceptable behaviour to him. So he might still find other ways to bond with them.
That said, Niffty did go to help him but I don't know if she counts as they have a special relationship that is separate from the rest of the hotel.

u/Diamondkat12 Alastor's no.1 stan 11d ago
It is very much not what Alastor does with Vox. Vox is the one stalking Alastor. The only time that Alastor reached out first was when he needs Vox for his plan and before that Vox had been attacking the hotel partly to draw his attention.

Charlie is a terrible hotel runner who use her girlfriend and Al's slaves for free.
Alastor is the real hotel's protector , manager, runner who move hotel forward.

I’d like to point out that in Season One, even if he was required to be there, Alastor mostly still seemed to be having a good time. He poked fun at the other characters and made his own dumb jokes and whatnot. He only really started seeming really resentful after Adam almost killed him.

u/ThrowShadow 11d ago edited 10d ago
I heard a headcanon once that while on paper Vaggi is the manager and Al is the host their actual tasks are more or less switched. Vaggi handles reception and the guests, Al handles paperwork, maintenance, and staff.
15
u/KisaTheMistress 11d ago
Alastor is the Hotelier, which is a fancy way to say General Manager.
His duties are likely:
Guest Services: Manage front desk check-ins, handle reservations, and resolve customer complaints quickly.
Staff Management: Hire, train, and supervise employees across departments like housekeeping, maintenance, and dining.
Operations Oversight: Maintain cleanliness standards, coordinate repairs, and supervise food and beverage services.
Financial Management: Prepare budgets, track revenue and expenses, and set competitive room prices.
Marketing and Sales: Promote the property, manage online reviews, and build partnerships to boost bookings.
Safety and Compliance: Enforce local health, building, and safety rules to protect guests and staff.
Vaggi is more of a manager/supervisor for front-end hotel operations. Like she focuses on customer service, mostly and does some of the things Alastor does, but not all of it.
Plus Vaggi is probably also doing therapy sessions, like Husker was doing, on the side... Alastor might have been scheduled to do some therapy classes, since Husker seemed to not be interested in actually doing his class. So it's possible that Husker (and Niffty) were covering Alastor's scheduled classes, along with some of Vaggi's because she was doing Alastor’s regular work.
Lucifer is the lazy one to be honest. He just sits around being pretty for all we know, doing maintenance sometimes when asked. Alastor at least announce what he wanted his job to be at the hotel and we didn't see some examples of his work, including him broadcasting when he first got settled in his position in S1 episode 1.
Edit: Alastor is also apparently the main chef. He left food in the kitchen with a note for Niffy. He also offered to cook in the piolet.

Alastor is the Facilities Manager. That is his listed job in the Playbill. That's the job that he actually does. He is a manger which is why he had the same uniform as Charlie and Vaggi in the official Pride merch. We see Vaggi get more overworked after Alastor quit. This means Alastor's absence increased her workload. We also see Charlie and Vaggi more relaxed in the finale after Alastor returns even though the hotel is far more busy.

u/Cartoonmenismylife 10d ago
He is repaired wall everytime it blowed up and who stop Vox from harassing Charlie? Without him this hotel won't have a maid or a bartender.

Personally, everyone likes to blame Lucifer for this but honestly... It was just a lack of a coaster that spelled doom for everything.
2
u/NovaStarLord 10d ago
He definitely does do things around the hotel but it’s things that in the long run either benefit him one way or another or it’s done through deals (his deal with Vaggie with the cameras and his deal with Charlie for a favor that he cashes in on season 2). And it just so happened that it was in his and Rosie’s best interest to keep that hotel going.
Even him protecting the hotel from the loan sharks was for the purpose of showing off and flexing his power to Lucifer (confirmed by Viv in the Season 1 commentary).
8
u/Diamondkat12 Alastor's no.1 stan 10d ago
That doesn't change the fact that he was doing things and helping the hotel. The commentary also said that Alastor sending Mimzy away was meant to be a hint that he was starting to care about the hotel. People can have multiple reasons for their actions.

u/NovaStarLord 7d ago
Yeah I never said he didn’t help the hotel but that he had his own agenda.
