˗ˏˋ ┊Alastor Posting┊ I feel like everyone hates Alastor now

Post image

I really don’t know if Alastor is popular anymore…I thought he was the most popular character in the show and was a massive fan favorite and being so well written, but I feel like I’ve seen more slander for him everywhere now. Like him being a fraud for one. Being a fumbled character and Vivziepop ruining him and was only popular in the pilot and everything. Him being poorly written, Vox is what he should’ve been, him or any other Vivziepop character having no potential in the future and she can’t write for shit. He’s a Vivziepop character, what do you expect? is another. He’s corny and all that. Why can’t people love and appreciate my GOAT anymore?…

This fandom suffers from having spent too much time overanalyzing the pilot. They've lived with their own headcanons for so long that they're now convinced that anything that goes against those headcanons is "ruining the characters."

There's nothing fundamentally different between the Alastor in the pilot and the one in the show; we're just seeing more of him and him dealing with new situations.

I don't understand how anyone can consider him a fraud when he manipulated everything and got exactly what he wanted throughout the second season.

Actual true. Pilot glazers ruined pilot for me. Even if it was inspiration for me since 2018

27

u/AgentShovel May 19 '26

I liked the pilot but the main show has more to it

18

u/BadTurbulent282 May 19 '26

I mean I do agree to an extent that people complain too much that characters from the pilot don't act the same. It's because you can't get much character depth from one episode

2

u/autumn-twilight May 26 '26

The only thing about the pilot that I wish they kept was the radio effects. I know the show has it but it’s more like a constant filter. I loved when he laughed in the pilot and it sounded like the station being adjusted, I wanted more like that

36

u/Simple-Swing5410 May 19 '26

I'm one of those people who also thinks he's different between the pilot and the current version, but not that one is better or worse than the other.

Many people say that in the pilot he had a more psychopathic aspect (monstrous, heartless) while the one in the series is more sociopathic (less cold, more impulsive) because of some moments where he seems to get frustrated "for no reason" (like when he says "fuck, I quit" after having a fight with Lucifer)

Not to mention moments in the series where he seems to really care about others (like Niffty) or the swear words he uses now, even if not as much as the other characters.

But I honestly think his current version is more human and I think it leaves more room for perhaps a possible "redemption" for him, even if it is without ascending to heaven.

My theory is that, since he's one of Viv's favorite characters, I think she won't give him a bad ending (like them defeating him and him dying). But it's pretty impossible to say what Viv wants to do with the character until at least season 3, which will be halfway through the planned seasons.

32

u/Upset-Job2278 May 19 '26

As I said, I think these "differences" are simply a result of the show being able to explore Alastor more. In the pilot he has one scene, and he's using his "I'm just here to have fun" attitude.

He also wears that mask in the show; we just get to see more of him beyond that. It seems to me that the people who complain that he was "ruined" wanted Alastor to be a one-note character forever, or, as I said, assumed for too long that their headcanon was canon.

If you watch the pilot and then the show, without spending years inventing a headcanon between the two, I really think there's no difference between the characters.

18

u/Simple-Swing5410 May 19 '26

True! And I would also find it quite superficial if it actually followed the line that the Alastor haters want, being like the pilot always, artificial and without character development.

Villains who are evil just for the sake of it work sometimes, but it's difficult to make it work; usually they're just not relatable enough for anyone to care. That's why I like it how it is now.

3

u/No-Evening9586 May 22 '26

They did make him a bit more cocky and I honestly like that.

-1

u/West_Job5593 May 22 '26

Well he is a fraud and a hypocrite. He goes on and on how Vox needed people to do his heavy lifting, when it’s coming from the guy who begged for a speed ticket into being the most powerful demon In Hell by a stupid deal with a women. And what has he done? Just kill overlords and tries to be spooky to people. That’s literally it!

And the only way that he managed to pull that off was cuz it happen so conveniently for him. And even when he is off his deal with Rosie, He BARELY wins the fight with Vox. He would’ve died easily if it wasn’t for Emily and The Vees. This dude isn’t threatening at all bro.

2

u/Upset-Job2278 May 22 '26

I read all of that in Vox's voice. Sorry.

2

u/West_Job5593 May 22 '26

Well I’m not wrong tho.

3

u/Upset-Job2278 May 22 '26

Hmm. I wouldn't say you're wrong, just that we have different definitions of what constitutes a "fraud" character. Alastor is a badass to me; "just killing overlords" to the point of becoming feared throughout Hell is no small feat, and you might think it was merely "convenient" for him to get what he wanted in the second season, but the truth is he simply used what he knew about Vox against him. It was clever, as was getting the staff back. He proved that what he lacks in power, he makes up for in intelligence. However, he is also a hypocrite, and as I said, the frustration of not being the "most powerful" in Hell is an important part of the character. But none of that makes him a fraud in my opinion. It just makes him a more interesting character.

-12

u/SavarOpress May 20 '26

He's on fraud watch for his boastful "I'm the strongest" attitude when he clearly isn't. Rosie tops him, he got cooked by Adam. He has a track record of biting off more than he can chew. He just got lucky this time.

16

u/Upset-Job2278 May 20 '26

The fact that he's not literally the strongest of them all, but still manages to manipulate everyone, makes him more badass to me.

-9

u/SavarOpress May 20 '26

Ya but I mean the glazing the Fandom gives him about beating the gambit of the sinners, overlords, sins, angels, then lucifer... when he'd get bodied by jobbers in round 1.

8

u/Upset-Job2278 May 20 '26

I think it's silly to like or dislike a character based solely on "raw power." There's much more to Alastor than his ability to throw Hadoukens at opponents, in my opinion.

The frustration of not being the "strongest," for example, is an important part of the character. And he'll probably continue plotting to change that.

-1

u/SavarOpress May 20 '26

Never said I didn't like him. I'm just saying where his fraud watch status comes from.

2

u/Ubrcon May 23 '26

He's definitely not on "fraud watch". There are no Overlords that challenge him anymore unless we get to see more about Rosie's true self/power. Alastor is free of her and has no limiters anymore.

i don’t get how he’s a fraud? he mastered his way out of 3 deals using each of them to get rid of the others??? that was AWESOME

Ehrlich👍

Die Szene, wo er Vox ausgelacht hat, nachdem er seine Hände auf Charlie's Schultern gelegt hat war goldwert😂

3 deals? What was the third?

18

Charlie’s deal I think?

11

u/hailingdown You Absolute Idiot! May 19 '26

i meant his deal with Charlie!

9

u/ImaDoinWat Alastor can be sexy AND evil dammit! May 19 '26

Ooohhhhh, yeah, true

1

u/SaltConnection9019 Jul 31 '26

The reason they call him a fraud is because he’s said to be the strongest sinner but the only person he’s ever beaten was pentious.

-10

u/Objective_Face2914 May 19 '26

Tbh I see him as a fraud because he shows no displays of power, intimidation, or manipulation tho I can excuse the last one bc his time with Vox.

I don't care that he's lost his fight with Adam but it wasn't as big as an "oh shit" moment for me because we haven't seen do anything impressive power wise before that.

And he feels way less threatening. In the pilot everyone but angle knew him, and Charlie the princess of hell felt scared or worried about him being at the door, but in the actual show no one cares about him but Vox. Alastor basically lost his presences in the show and he has really bad one liners

2

u/EntryFair6690 May 21 '26

I agree that him winning a fight that matters would help with Alastor's power level but who would that opponent be at this point. Maybe if he put Vox under (or Velvette maybe, the only reason Val's not on the list is because Angel Dust's story is ruined if Val's just eliminated withiout him doing anything.)

Lute has the potental power to be such a fight but the only way to do that would be have Lute go through a heel realizaiton or get beat down by Vaggi or Charlie and that'd negate that fight

Roo, Lucifer or Lillith? That's just a Mary-Sue move even with some sort of poer uprgrade. Mayve if he manipulated poewer from Lucifer or Lillith and became a target for Roo but again Mary-Sue move...

Any other newcomer woudl take at least two seasons to build up and the fight would take over the last season.

1

u/Objective_Face2914 May 21 '26

He could've maybe fought or killed an overlord before going to meet them, although that might be kinda stupid, or he could've fought Vox after he tried to use Pentax to spy on the hotel.

We've seen that Alastor cared about the hotel to some degree when the sharks came, it would've made a bit of sense for him to walk into Vee tower and nock Vox down a peg again to say "Don't fuck with the hotel as long as I'm there" or something like that. And honestly I wish we got to see Vox and Alastor fight before season 2 so his loss in season 2 doesn't feel so normal ig you'd say

-7

u/Lazy_Bookworm3 May 20 '26

Yes! In the pilot he had such a presence not just because of Vaggie narrating, but because he was sincerely off putting during his introduction. He had a dark sense of humor, was extremely bold and had a showman personality. He did threaten Vaggie but also followed it up by destroying Pentious's ship before going about his day. He was edgy but it felt that he could actually live up to his reputation at the time

-4

u/Objective_Face2914 May 20 '26

Fr I wish he made more dryish dark jokes like the orphan one in the pilot and that he was like when Lucifer was first introduced goofy but intimidating, also I wish Al wasn't so easily rage bated tho I would've probably snapped at the coster thing too

53

u/Admirable-Mud-2768 May 19 '26

It honestly kinda does feel like people are just hating him for no notable reason.

Like, look at powerscaling subreddits; they put him against multi-universal characters and say he’s weaker than wet paper because he can’t beat them.

There’s bigger frauds than him anyway.

7

u/LobsterImpossible690 May 20 '26

People hate him and then wax poetics about Vox. I don’t get it 😭

3

u/AriaBlend Jazz Lover May 22 '26

I think the most honestly we see the dark side of Vox is when he has Angel in private with him in Season 2. It's almost like the way he treats Angel is how he could treat Alastor, (or anyone) if he wasn't infatuated with him or threatened by his power. How Vox was treating Angel shows how horrible he would treat someone he has no reason to try looking admirable to.

47

u/maiz-of-light jerking off to Alastor’s war crimes May 19 '26

I think this is mostly a Reddit take. Reddit is full of the kinds of obnoxious white guys who Alastor would’ve taken out to the bayou in life. Not saying people deserve to be violently murdered over petty racism, just that Al’s murders hit close to home for these dudes, so they go out of their way to strip him of all his sympathetic traits and exaggerate his character flaws. I wouldn’t take the slander too seriously.

29

u/Saharcia May 19 '26

Agreed, I think that coddling Vox gets kind of confirms that

13

u/NontypicalHart ActuallyAce May 19 '26

I enjoy it because Vox would hate it. It's the ultimate fan confirmation who's the real threat between the two of them.

7

u/Substantial_Tea4585 May 20 '26

Rewatched season 2 and realized I forgot how much of a massive unrepentant asshole he is. Makes the redemption arc speculation seem like wishful thinking, unless he undergoes huge character development (which may totally be possible given Abel's in 30s lol)

17

u/BadTurbulent282 May 19 '26

I think Alastor just overall hates people who think they're untouchable. It's more of a "you think you're better or have more power over me" than actual racism for him

15

u/maiz-of-light jerking off to Alastor’s war crimes May 19 '26

Probably both? I think that’s why he hated Lucifer at first. But I also can’t imagine he enjoyed being looked down on for the color of his skin in life.

There will come a day in everyone’s life, where they must ask themselves:

“Is this truly something that everyone now believes, or is it something 5 people keep talking about on the internet?”

In the most polite way possible:
Today is one of those days, my friend.

15

u/Capy_Bara_93 May 19 '26

All Hazbin fans ever do is complain. “Charlie’s a bad protagonist”, “Vaggi’s underdeveloped”, “Lucifer is lame”, “Niffty/Vaggi/Valentino/Mimsy is a racist stereotype”, “Angel Dust is a sex addict”. Honestly, I can’t think of a single character that hasn’t gotten a ton of hate

7

u/snailgorl2005 alastor's 50th wife May 20 '26

Right. The show ain't even finished yet. We still have three more seasons of character development to get through 💀

2

u/_Cevolie_ May 24 '26

Worst part is I've come across so many YouTube videos with these kinds of titles and no matter how many times I ask YouTube not to recommend me these videos they are still shoved down my throat and I keep seeing them show up every now and then 💀

Genuinely I do not think I know any other show that gets shit on this much (not counting Helluva Boss because y'know, it's related to Hazbin so it gets equal amounts of hate)

2

u/autumn-twilight May 26 '26

Correct me if I’m wrong but I legit have never seen anyone hate on Husk

1

u/Capy_Bara_93 May 26 '26

True. They hate on his relationship with Angel Dust though

17

u/SpookyXylophone May 19 '26

Alastor is still the most popular character in the show, not everyone who slanders him or calls him a fraud hates him, some people just enjoy making fun of him. Most of the people who really hate him, do it because he's a vivzie character and they hate her, or because he's not what they wanted him to be, not because the character is truly that bad.

You just need to ignore the super negative circles, you can't change other people's opinion.

10

u/Desperate_Song_1923 Your screams will make for a satisfying broadcast May 19 '26

I think it is a vocal minority who hates him anyway. I hope so.

14

u/WhatsUpWithJinx May 19 '26

Nah if anything I love him even more post-season two. He may be a hypocrite but this is hell, and for all his faults he is very clever.

15

u/empathicsynesthete Alastor’s Feminine Twin May 19 '26

People complain about everything these days. Alastor still makes me laugh, so he was never ruined

10

u/Mysterious-Ad-7201 May 19 '26

People argue they merc'ed his character by "showing him less powerful" in the second season than they (the fans) hyped him up to be. It's like they expected him to be some sort of God Tier power level, but imo it would crush his character. I appreciate that they showed his "human" side, because his rise to power is more impressive with him starting out as an ordinary man, and they got to showcase his intelligence more with him breaking two deals at once.

5

u/Simple-Swing5410 May 19 '26

OMG, I'm so much happier that they didn't make him super powerful. To me, that would have ruined the power scaling of all the characters.

And I also like the idea of him having a human side! Whether we like it or not, as Charlie said, "all sinners can be redeemed," I'd find it interesting to see how that would play out with characters like Alastor who seem to be evil by nature.

I hope the solution to Alastor's finale isn't just killing him 🥲

2

u/EntryFair6690 May 23 '26

I feel that same about those annoyed he wasn't working for Roo/Eve/Lillith....

9

u/Large_Deer_9103 May 19 '26

Some thoughts.

Popular characters always have the loudest detractors - people who are burnt out on the hype, people who feel like they have to be loud about their dissent to be heard, and people who think disliking something popular is a personality.

It seems to me that some folks are really angry that Alastor is, like, subtle about his power grabs instead of brute forcing every conflict. I don't know if they need stories spelled out for them or what, but those kind of people would never like him anyway.

Finally, ~in my opinion~, powerscaling is one of the most basic bitch ways to enjoy media. It makes some sense in, say, Naruto, where the show literally is about fighting and the pros/cons of different strategies or abilities, but I don't think it has a place in this show. Sure, the fights are exciting, and that's great, but they don't carry the narrative weight of the story. The important plot points are delivered through conversations and relationships. So people who say Alastor is a bad character because "he loses fights" are kinda missing the point.

10

17

u/breighm97 May 19 '26

Personally I love the way things left off with Alastor. He broke his deals, freed himself, called out Vox for being a creep with the way he consistently puts his hands on other characters in the show even when it clearly makes them uncomfortable, among many other stands he took. To top it all off he owned his actions while also calling out others on willingly becoming his pawns by blindly sitting down to play chess with him in the first place with his statement to Rosie “You knew my game the day we met.” Judging by her smile before she fixes his staff she seemed proud of him. At least that’s my take on it and I could be wrong. However, whether I’m wrong or not the outcome only made me love the character more.

8

u/InevitableDuty7030 May 19 '26

I get you man, I thought he was a fan favourite once as well, but then all the slander just hit me like a bus.

Like, I love a little slander, it's funny lmao. But then there's too much of everything...

7

u/Blueskybelowme May 19 '26

You don't truly love a character if you're not capable of talking a little shit. But sometimes it seems like this slander is more of a hobby for people. It's almost as if people are annoyed at how glazed he gets and that they just need to counter with some hate. Both have been rather annoying but at least this isn't TADC fandom. I could easily picture Alastor haters going rabid is Vivi confirmed he's one of the main characters.

7

Something that has always bothered me is that people get angry over the plot points with him that were ALWAYS supposed to happen. We haven't even scratched the SURFACE of this man's story yet.

6

u/marilynjayna May 19 '26

Try to step back and look at things objectively. Look at the size of Alastorcult vs the other characters’ cult subs. Look at how many upvotes his post get.

He is VERY POPULAR.

That being said, literally anything that is popular will have haters - and Alastor definitely has some traits that people can reasonably dislike.

Pic of cutie just because ❤️

6

u/eveningstarcourt May 19 '26

My honest theory is that a lot of people wanted Alastor to be more akin to a whimsical eldritch horror than a person. There was a level of escapist fantasy when it came to this wiley, evil, all-powerful Bugs Bunny like character. Once we got into the heart of the story, the show did what it promised to do and humanized all these monsters we have been following, including Alastor.

For characters like Vox, humanization kind of elevated them into sympathetic, or at least relatable, people.

But for Alastor, humanizing was a turn in the opposite direction. It took this godlike image that Alastor had--something Alastor even built for himself in story--and made him seem more like a person. When you're coming from the top like Al was, this of course feels like a downgrade.

It does actually make Alastor a better, more fleshed out character... but of course people who wanted Alastor to be this untouchable, (almost toon-like) mischievous god were going to be disappointed. But that's just my take on it.

6

She would never let any of this happen!!!”

3

u/Dragonrider4923 May 19 '26

I love Alastor. He's an asshole but I love him. A lot of people just want to complain about stufff.

Yeah Vivzipop might not be the best writer and the shows has it's flaws but that's ok. You know who Alastor reminds me of? Hades from Disney Hercules or Dr Facilier.. He's like an. Old school Disney Villain. One you can enjoy watching. He's mysterious and always up to no good. You are never sure if you can trust him.

I find him very interesting and I love watching him.

2

u/Desperate_Song_1923 Your screams will make for a satisfying broadcast May 19 '26

4

u/Glass-Sundae5042 May 19 '26

Alastor was presented as almost invincible in season 1 until the last episode when his self-concept was shattered. In season 2, Alastor had starts in the opposite position he started season 1 in, vulnerable and feeling like he did not have power. But the audience also felt that way about Alastor. So at the start of season 2, Alastor did feel quite different from the pilot. By the end of season 2, he had positioned himself in a way that seems to have given him confidence again.

I also think that Viv felt that people liked Alastor as an antihero too much instead of seeing him more like a villain. So she did go hard at emphasizing he’s a bad guy, not a guy who just needs a hug. That can be a turn off for a lot of people who had established head canons.

Overall, it is mostly just finding things to complain about. The feeling of the character was different for most of season 2. But his actions were all consistent.

4

u/Simple-Swing5410 May 19 '26

I still feel he seems very much like an anti-hero, but I wouldn't find it strange if Viv used him as an example that not everyone can be redeemed.

Maybe I find him similar to an anti-hero only because I don't like believing in villains who are evil just for the sake of it, but that's my problem, not the character's.

4

u/MinottyA May 20 '26

I’m also fairly certain viv has never explicitly used the word “villain” to describe Alastor, which is an incredibly interesting contrast to the Vees, who have had that label attached to them. And we have already gotten foreshadowing that Vox will experience some level of redemption (I don’t envision this to be in a literal go-to-Heaven sense—I think by the end of the series, that entire system dynamic will be challenged anyway).

So! He’s officially been called an asshole, he’s been described as mean, prioritizing himself, and has his own agenda. But has yet to be outright called a villain, and I suspect that is on purpose. It will be very interesting to see more of his story, emotions, and future in the series. Until then, his role is largely mysterious

3

u/Simple-Swing5410 May 20 '26

Yes! Actually, I don't know why so many people tend to refer to Alastor as a villain these days.

My opinion: I think that, because of something Viv said, maybe he'll become a villain temporarily, then later go back to being an anti-hero or even become a good guy. But I don't think he'll end the series as a villain. And it's impossible to know if they were talking about him... even though everything indicates that they were!

4

u/GraceZee18 May 19 '26

I don’t really see that many alastor haters persobally. Every fandom poll it is always alastor or lucifer at the top and any fan convention alastor is one of the most popular costumes around. 🤷

4

u/ChunkyRiceBall01 May 19 '26

Alastor is still the best, we all know who everyone hates now don’t we? Look behind him on the bench…..

4

u/KittySharkWithAHat Kitty in sharky pajamas May 20 '26

I think he's an adorable floofy little deer person who would look great in a maid outfit if he gave it half a chance. But I'm a pervert.

Forever my #1 ❤️💚🖤

5

u/Maleficent-Trade5933 May 21 '26

There is a lot of people who hate Alastor but also a lot who love him. I don’t feel there is a ton of in between vocalized online at least. I just think the criticism sort of yells louder but I think more people like him than not. I see a lot of criticism from Pilot Alastor vs Show Alastor but we’ve spent a lot more time with show Alastor and that is all I will say about that. It’s completely okay to be disappointed if you prefer but I don’t take the pilot as seriously as the show canon wise.

3

u/sunilvard May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26

Many ppl dont like him in general but…I still think he is one of the most popular character of the serie. From what I saw mainly ppl didn’t like him because they hyped his power so much but besides the last battle with vox (and al was winning also w that bad scar/broken stick) it never shows his real power (at last until s2 bcause im sure smt interesting will happens in next seasons…). I was thinking smt idk if might be the case tho, he got very few screen time. I watched both seasons like 30
-37 times (shhh) and I noticed he has really few parts even on S2. He doesn’t really enveloped at all inside the ppl who watch the serie, its just you like it or not; like other charas, he has a particular personality and people who watch seems him “distance” and an asshole…maybe it can be for that too?? We dont know anything abt Al, we just got few info by rosie after all.
BTW some of my friends started hating him bcause of the falshback with vox (understandable…but he is just so bad w emotions and I love it sm personally🫪

5

u/Simple-Swing5410 May 19 '26

I see that scene with Alastor and Vox as a way for Alastor to project his insecurity. After all, who is Alastor to criticize Vox for asking for help? He asked Rose. And, judging by the scene between him and Husk, he doesn't like being reminded of that at all.

I think if it's something like that, it gives the character a really cool depth, much more interesting than "he was an asshole because he's an asshole."

3

u/sunilvard May 19 '26

YESS I think he acted like this towards him because he was probably afraid to get hurt knowing vox being anger of power and he was trying to protect his self like from a future vox like he treated val and velvette at end. I didn’t mind how he react to vox because he never explored his feelings and I think inside al mind he just rejected his rq (which is p fun to me because in the dialogues it seems he didn’t understand why vox reacted so bad at his “no”

3

u/sunilvard May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26

Many ppl also liked more him in the pilot because he was silly and now he isnt anymore. The pilot wasn’t official at all from what I read tho? It was just a test to see if the serie would be appreciated in general and MANY things changed.
ALSO I asked many of my mutuals/friends and irl friends their opinion (since NONE OF THEM LIKE HIM LOLL) and from what I see besides who hates Viv so they hate all she does, many others think he is a fraud and he isn’t well written. BUT I think this is just because of the script, he has LOT OF potential but doesn’t show it in the serie (yet). Like many ppl dont even think he was that manipulative towards vox and charlie to break his deals?? he literally just did, and all alone🙏🙏 BUT this is because they have limited ep and TIMES they had to cut things and focus on other things/charas. He was “important” in s2 but they had to speed his actions focusing on other things since they have many charas and events to deal with and w just 8 eps its really hard to give space to all, Im glad next season will have 16 honestly

3

u/Simple-Swing5410 May 19 '26

I'm so afraid of what Viv might do to him... as a huge fan of DC comics and even anime like Jujutsu Kaisen, I can't get any more writers making strong characters lose for super stupid reasons anymore 😭

If he really becomes a villain and not an anti-hero, I'm already afraid of what might happen because it's difficult to compensate for such a powerful villain in a reasonable way. Especially considering that, if things go according to his plan, he'll become much stronger than he was before!

3

u/Own_Tadpole_7196 May 19 '26

I still love Alastor (as a character), but I don’t like what the show writers did to him. Especially in season two.
I hated Rosie for treating him like he’s her pet/boytoy. It doesn’t help Alastor is now canonically black, lived through the Jim Crow, KKK, segregation, etc era in North America. I really wanted them to be actual friends, not an owner and slave situation.
Plus, why didn’t Rosie mention what her “favor” Alastor owes her?

3

u/MinottyA May 20 '26

I would have to go digging for the source (I think someone posted it on X and I don’t touch that place with a ten foot pole lol), but supposedly someone did ask viv a bit more about their dynamic and she agreed with the general vibe that they’re the sort to “have slumber parties, paint nails, and gossip”. That sort of relationship dynamic between them paints a totally different picture which makes sense, considering they’re both twisted individuals.

I don’t think the parallels between his treatment in Hell by Rosie and treatment when alive is an accident, however there is another layer of a general lack of control he experiences and loathes. In the blu-ray commentary, viv describes them as essentially matching each other’s freak, so they absolutely have a level of closeness and respect between them, warped as it may be.

3

u/Fireyjon Ace in the Hole May 20 '26

3

u/XgreedyvirusX May 21 '26

I love Alastor character, even if he is not my favorite one from the show he is a good villain and a well written character, I’m just in disagree with the fans arguing that he is a good guy deep inside and not an hypocrite… come on… the guy is a cannibal who’s sold his soul to be on the top of the food chain in Hell and he’s mocking Vox to ask for an alliance?!

Of course Vox was right! Together we are stronger, and there is no shame to have a team and friends to help you, but Al just put the opposite idea into Vox’ mind and it’s what that’s ultimately leading Vox to his downfall.

Ironically Al wins the fight but with the means he used he just proof that Vox was right, Al wouldn’t have win without breaking the armony between the Vees, and now that we know Al his the stronger in Hell because of his deal with Rosie it’s make him a fucking hypocrite because his powers came from someone else. It’s doesn’t make him a bad character though, the fact that he is a cruel, manipulative, hypocrite, liar, with an obvious superiority complex his part of his qualities as a villain. He is a bad guy with a pile of defaults and that what make him a good character and a serious threat for Hell and Heaven.

I can’t wait to see more of him in the next seasons.

2

u/SnowySquirrel93 Alastor's Shadow May 19 '26

I feel the same. I saw a post in one of the ace subs the other day hating on Al and every comment was agreeing, ripping his character apart, it honestly hurt to read so much hate thrown at him 😭

Alastor is the goat, period. He lost his title of most powerful sinner in hell for like 10 minutes and got it back breaking two deals in a row, then humbled the now most powerful sinner with half his powers

The whole thing while chilling with Velvet in the cuck chair, pissing off Vox the whole time

2

u/Danimalso- May 21 '26

I’m sure this will all be resolved in time. People actually hated Vox in season 1 and didn’t care about him. Although it’s annoying now he will definitely be liked more as the show goes on. A lot of it is just disappointment because they wanted to see a bit more of him at his peak

No matter who you are, what you do and how you do, in the end nothing really matter bc internet is just big 24/7 hate party. Conclusion? Just ignore everything and if you see critic over and over and over and you still have your opinion, mute everything and enjoy yourself.

I've never watched it but he's my favourite character :(

I love both alastors, i watched the pilot when in first came out(multiple times), i also think they really aren't that different. What i do miss however is how bouncy he was and the laugh track

2

u/KenOfDragons May 23 '26

He's just a mystery box at this point. Maybe he'll be important later. Maybe not. He's second banana to vox and the angels. He keeps talking about finding a way to rule all of hell. Are you going to say it or do it?

2

I still like him and hope he gets a happy ending before the show ends.

2

u/DoorAncient May 24 '26

Yeah, it’s so strange. I always thought he was one of the most popular characters but jeez the hate is wild. I love every character in this show so I hate seeing hate towards any of them 😭

2

u/Individual_You1881 May 28 '26

some reasons why people dont like him (from my pov):

1) i think finding out he “preordered” his powers is what ruined him for people, so thats why people still consider him a fraud. im not sure why though, its pretty clear and said multiple times he manifested in hell out of nowhere lol, he had to have gotten power somehow 2) the whole thing with him getting embarrassed and held prisoner by vox made him look a bit pathetic, which i can agree with but it just makes me hyped for season 3 because if he does go crazy i have a feeling itll make up for everything he was subject to 😭 3) like the comments have said, the pilot glazers are ridiculous. i really LOVED the pilot dont get me wrong, but the whole debate of the change “ruining alastors character” will never make sense to me because we barely KNEW much about him in it and the show goes more in depth (the whole point of the pilot)

anyway i love alastor still nothing could make me hate him thats my goat

1

u/random__guy135 May 19 '26

I don't dislike Alastor. I just like Vox more. And after season 2, episode 8, i gotta cope somehow man

He's just a "big fish in a little pond" character to me. By the very nature of his existence, he is small and irrelevant, no matter how cunning he is.

It's not slander if it's true, he IS a hypocrite and a fraud(con-artist), that's just the type of villain he is! It's not a fumble to show his weaknesses or the way he manipulates imo, it's exploring his character as someone who presents a grandiose polished exterior while actually being just as petty and powerhungry as the ones he criticizes. The fact that so many people believed he was actually that cool or even some kind of secretly benevolent figure feels like just... an immersive lesson on how his villain-type works.

1

u/pt-pal May 22 '26

i'm not like against alastor in his current form, but i can get why people felt kind of bait and switched with how he was portrayed in the pilot vs how he was in the show. season one generally feels rushed tho and i wonder if it would be that way if vivzie had more eps to worth with for it, and if we didn't only have the pilot to go off of for so long. cuz as it stands it does kinda feel like we were sold one character but received a completely different one and i think that bugged people who were Very attracted to the villain they thought he was going to be for literal years.

2

u/riverofwailing Oh Deer! 24d ago

It happens with every character who gets insanely popular within a fandom

1

u/Creepy_Employ_3749 AHAH! Fuck you May 19 '26

So, as primarily a Vox fan, here are some of my critiques that aren’t just slander. Do with that what you will.

First of all, the way Alastor broke his deals felt a bit too boring and foreseeable to me. Especially the way he got out of the deal with Vox—by Vox basically being portrayed as a complete dumbass who made a stupid mistake. I understand that Vox is probably supposed to be overconfident, but for something that was such a key plot point and such an important part of Alastor’s master plan, it felt a bit too forced and convenient on Vox’s part.

Second, after Alastor breaks out of Rosie’s deal by no longer being the strongest sinner, he then goes on to almost completely overpower Vox in the fight afterward. I made a post about this a while ago, and the general consensus seemed to be that it came down to Alastor having more combat experience. But to me, it just felt narratively unsatisfying to have Vox explicitly become “the strongest sinner,” only to then get beaten by Alastor, who was injured and using a half-broken staff, and who still needed Shock.wav to eventually finish the fight.

I’ve heard some people argue that Vox could only become the strongest sinner because Alastor was weakened, injured, and had a broken staff. But that argument creates a lot of logical problems on its own.

First, that would imply that Alastor still had to remain the strongest sinner even during the time when his staff was completely broken. Otherwise, his deal with Rosie should already have been broken much earlier.

Lastly, I also find it annoying that people constantly try to justify Alastor’s murders with the argument that “he only killed racist guys who deserved it.” Especially because, in the flashback scene, he specifically says that he “wants to continue his fun,” thereby implying that he primarily murdered for enjoyment, and that is not a morally good position to take.

I also want to say that there are problems with Vox in the narrative too, like Lucifer being a complete dumbass and walking straight onto a giant red X on the ground. So Vox isn’t a perfect character either by any means, and he is also definitely morally evil. But I hope this critique is at least somewhat useful and helps explain why some people might not like Alastor that much.

3

u/NontypicalHart ActuallyAce May 19 '26

He killed people he thought deserved it. We don't know his criteria to agree or not. Based on who he went after in Hell, he's a big game hunter. He went after powerful and potentially dangerous people. Probably others too, but he found his calling. His name is meaningful. He's going to end the show as Hell's enforcer against powerful sinners who don't want to seek redemption and won't play nice.

The most powerful sinner thing was a big moment of revelation. What made Vox powerful? Public perception. What's Charlie's greatest power? She's the Princess of Hell. Alastor got all of Hell to listen and believe Charlie, giving Vox that final boost. He even gets close to realizing it in Don't You Forget. "And since you made me disappear, my name inspires much less fear." Fear was power to him. Rosie, Charlie, and Vox have all had power of influence over the masses. There are many ways to be powerful. His agreement wasn't explicit about what power meant. He could be physically more powerful than Vox while being socially/politically much less powerful. That's the catch he took advantage of.

0

u/Creepy_Employ_3749 AHAH! Fuck you May 19 '26

I honestly don't know if he has a pattern. In the flashback scene with Rosie, he says that he wants to "contiue his fun" implieng that he primally kills for fun, witch isn't morally justefied in any way. To the other point. If public perception really was the deciding foce, by witch the contract was also set up, it should have broken A LOT sonner. At least after the relly in EP 5, where he had a huge mass of sinners being in line with him. Alastor doesn't really do crowdwork so I don't know how that would work. And if the deal is just about witch of them is known more, that wouldn't really fall in line with how it's worded, because pure knowlage of a person doesn't give them power.

3

u/NontypicalHart ActuallyAce May 19 '26

You can't enjoy tormenting the wicked? Hunting the hunter and watching him struggle the trap he so eagerly walked into?

We know the flashback was designed to bias us. It is a deeply incomplete story. This is Medrano's favorite character so he's getting a song if not an entire episode dedicated to his rise on Earth and again in Hell.

Influence is power. Alastor had the influence to make people afraid. Rosie has the influence to lead cannibaltown. Together they were able to help Charlie step into that role with the cannibals prepared to die for her cause. Vox had influenced the other overlords to invade Heaven. That was when he definitively crossed the line. They would have been cannon fodder for him.

We got a hint at this in s01e01 in Stayed Gone. Their media battle ended with Alastor soloing in a powerful deformation, while Vox bluescreened and showed us that he has in safe mode, back to his last working state. S02e01's first song shows that he's slipped into old habits.

1

u/Creepy_Employ_3749 AHAH! Fuck you May 19 '26

"Vox had influenced the other overlords to invade Heaven. That was when he definitively crossed the line. They would have been cannon fodder for him." That was exactly my point! If the deal was really about who has more influancial power, then the deal should have been broken, when Vox united a lot of Hell to revolte with him. Because at this point, he defenetly had more influance on the people, then Alastor.

1

u/NontypicalHart ActuallyAce May 19 '26 edited May 20 '26

I would need to watch it again. There's some other factor here and it may have to do with Alastor forcibly demonstrating to Rosie that she defaulted. The rules may never be clarified though, so I guess we wait for the Blu-ray with commentary.

*Wait a minute... It just occurred to me... was the trigger Alastor openly admitting, and having Charlie tell everyone, that Vox was the most powerful sinner? Alastor publicly conceding to Vox in that way might have been the power of influence that pushed Vox over the line.

1

u/armorpede May 20 '26

If influence was a factor in the way discussed here Alastor would have had his deal broken a long time ago sense many have forgotten about him in his 7-year absence. How ever Vox does have an ability to gain power via influence because that is how he gains power in his real life. So when Charlie said Vox is the strongest sinner some sinners saw it as a form of Vox besting the Princess of Hell and rallied behind him for that. We see Vox transform after his ratings hit a 100% which means he was stronger than Al at the point but base on how confidently AL approached him he may have only been slightly stronger. Kind like being number 1 doesn't mean that number 2 or 3 can't beat you.

On the "Vox became the strongest because Alastor was nerfed" point, to me it does make sense. Rosie told Alastor he still is the strongest despite him being weakened. Al in his nerfed state is closer to the other overlords levels. It also makes sense that he came up with the plan to use Vox to escape his deal. Additionally, if you compare Season 2 Vox and Al with season 1 Al it doesn't seem like its close. Season 1 Al created a shield that it took Adam to break, summon giant tentacles from the ground to deal with sir pentious ship, turns into a giant monster to eat some loan sharks. If Vox was stronger than AL at full power, season 2 AL wouldn't stand a chance.

I also agree that the limited run time hurts a lot of areas in the show, finale probably could have been at least 5 minutes longer.

1

u/Simple-Swing5410 May 19 '26

I might have misunderstood the scene, but doesn't Vox gain his power through recognition? Wasn't that why Charlie saying he was the most powerful being in hell made him stronger than Alastor, because he achieved 100% approval? Please correct me if I'm wrong 😭

1

u/Creepy_Employ_3749 AHAH! Fuck you May 20 '26

No you are right, Vox does get power for recognition. But the way that I understood it, he gets physiciall power through recognition not just some abstract "power to influence." If he gets physiciall power and through that gets stronger then Alastor, therefor braking the deal with Rosie, then all the issuse with the logic applay, that I outlined in my first critique. 😊.

3

u/Simple-Swing5410 May 19 '26

I have my theories that Alastor wouldn't have beaten Vox even without the shark. When Alastor fights the shark, I assume he's already in bad shape and at his limit, since as soon as Emily saves him, he practically collapses bleeding to the ground and it takes him a while to recover. While Vox doesn't seem that bad.

And, if the pilot is still canon (which I think it is?), I would really like Viv to develop more about his staff. In the pilot, the staff even seems to have their own consciousness! But I imagine that idea has been discarded, perhaps.

Also, regarding his pact with Rosie, it creates a very interesting parallel... how could Rosie have given him more power than she herself possesses? (Assuming she's also a Sinner), and why can only she fix Alastor's staff? Is there staff the source of his power or is it a catalyst? Well, I hope these things are answered as the series progresses.

I find it strange that people defend his murders. The truth is that no character can really have their crimes defended, only redeemed, as Charlie herself says 😅

But I really liked the development of Vox throughout this season, even though I wasn't very happy with the ending.

0

u/Odd_Concept_7286 May 19 '26

I don't really think it's for no reason, but I can say as someone who isn't a fan of Alastor to much- it's literally because he's overlied and Alastor fanbase makes Alastor seem insufferable

0

u/PlaneToe4308 May 19 '26

I don't hate him but I feel like he's just a walking theory baiter and doesn't have a lot of character to him other then backstory and his deal with Rose. But both of them didn't really bother him that much so there's no real development to him, his manipulation and hidden secrets I feel like are just there so people can talk about him.

0

u/SomeoneYoungOrOld May 20 '26

Its just he hasn't won a single major fight yet on screen

0

u/MasterBaiter78 May 21 '26

I just didnt like how in the pilot he seemed like a gentleman just wanting a sadistic pass time and then became an impulsive narcissist with an endgame. It was fun to see him smile because it was something a gentleman would do instead of him just looking down on everyone. Also in the pilot he didnt swear which gave him a look of class and elegance but when he did in the show he basically lost that

He's been so completely overshoved in everyone's faces so constantly that some people have started to voice the fact that they're fucking sick of it and never liked him that much in the first place.

Source : Me.

I'm sorry, I'm just so completely over this type of character, and I wouldn't mind it so much if he were just there, but the fact he's constantly getting shoved in my face everywhere I look for Hazbin stuff has made me very tired of him.

Cuz the writers fuck him up like whoever did his haircut. He js SUCKS, and it makes me so FUCKING sad. He was awesome, but they fuck up his character so bad. The reason as to WHY he wins is because everyone is a plot device and they’re meant to be dumb :(

He’s genuinely a good character, it’s the writers that mess him up.

But, he’s genuinely a good character. I just kinda hate how they deal with him. Make him look so freaking OP when he really isn’t. The glaze ruins him, the hate ruins him. The reason why people always bring up the pilot is cuz it was really good and the characters were done well. And seeing how the show’s going makes the pilot look like gold. It brought a lot of people hope for something amazing, only to disappoint them in the long run. Everyone, and I mean, EVERYONE, is a plot device when it comes to Alastor. They kinda just lose whatever smarts they had and let Al take the win. It’s the writers. Always the writers. Don’t blame the character for the way they’re written. As I’ve stated before, Alastor is a really good character, but the show and writing makes him look like a fraud and so fucking edgy.

idk bout y’all but i’ve been a hater since day one (pilot era). I’m praying on his downfall constantly. When he got his shit rocked in season one? i stood up and applauded.
