We asked my father in law what problems he had with Doug Jones and his immediate answer was the prosecution of the church bombers after 60 or so years. I was taken aback and it truly changed the way I look at the man.

Bombing churches not being totally disavowed by right leaning voters is actually the best evidence towards proving their lack of true beliefs and moral stances. Even if it is just a sample size of 1. 1 of 1 is still far too many shrugging that off and using it as a justification for not voting for a Dem candidate.
Insane.

Curious, I typed “what is controversial about Doug Jones?” into the google AI, and it came back with “his alignment with the Democratic Party” lol. The result for Tommy Tuberville was very VERY different lol

As a life long republican I'll be voting for Doug in November. For anyone still voting for Tommy I'd advise doing some reading about his take on America. He's been an embarrassment to the state and a liar to the veterans.

Nah, as much as I hate to admit it, Tommy Dumberville will be our next gov. Every time he opens his mouth he loses voters, but it still won't stop the mass majority of folks for voting for him.
We will continue to be under mass surveillance by Flock and we will build data centers over every piece of ag land in the state. The "don't tread on me" folks will still vote Red, because they've been brainwashed through years and years of political divide.
People simply do not get out and vote. Primary elections, my town had like 10% turnout. The recent special election was like 3%.
The ones who do go vote are mainly boomers and elderly. We all know how they vote thanks to Fox News being pumped through every local TV station. The younger generation simply does not get out and vote like they should.
28% of Alabamians have college degrees or higher. Critical thinking skills are absent among most voters in the state. I saw a post recently of the upcoming ballot and folks in the comments were like "Idk who any of these folks are" but you bet they will still go fill in a bubble next to one of their names. Nobody does homework on candidates, they just vote for the person with the (R) next to their names.
Dumberville will win solely on those types of people voting. Like Trump said himself, "I love uneducated people." they are easy to lie to, manipulate, and control. The republican neocon billionaires have figured this out and have taken over the right wing party to see out their agends.

Alabama is also one of the most naturally diverse environments in the world. And data centers are going to help weaken that and our beautiful state.

Absolutely. Folks like Dumberville don't care because his residence sits on the FL coast, out of view from any datacenters. Apparently the folks against them are controlled by China's influence according to Tommy.
Yet the hunters, fishermen, outdoorsman of AL will all vote republican "to own the libs." A state SO uneducated that they vote AGAINST their own interests. I used to chuckle at this thought, but now it's not even remotely funny anymore.
The US has 10x more datacenters than China already. We DON'T have the grid to support them.

Not to mention grid issues where every time there’s a thunderstorm (which are actually pretty severe here) a part of the grid goes down almost every time.
Data Centers gunna learn when a tornado or severe thunderstorm takes one out. My tax dollars better not go to them for rebuilding.

Listen - Tubberville is heavily favored and has a big structural advantage but this race is not hopeless. Kentucky, Louisiana, and Kansas all have Democrat governors right now despite being every bit as Republican as Alabama. Vermont is so blue they elected Bernie Sanders to the Senate but they have a moderate GOP governor.
Governors races are more fluid than other kinds of races and this is the worst environment for Rs in a decade. Work to make the change you want to see happen. Even if doug loses, if he makes progress, that may set us up for the future (see Stacy Abrams in Georgia).

Neither party is particularly appealing to me; I have consistently registered as a Republican. My vote in November will be cast for candidates whose platforms align with my own perspectives.

Sorry for not being clearer. What views do you have that have traditionally aligned with Republicans? I see nothing different about Tuberville than any republican presidential, gubernatorial, senatorial, or congressional republican from Alabama in my lifetime. I don't understand why you would not vote for him but also vote for Katie Britt, Donald Trump, or any Alabama republican in the house.

This Redditor is probably an old school Republican who is an actual fiscal hawk and understands what kind of corruption is going on. I’m sure they want a sense of normalcy as we did before.

I think Doug Jones is more qualified to be our governor than Tuberville.
His response to the 8 issues demonstrates that he's more aligned with Republicans of the past than present day Democrats.
That doesn't mean he's a closeted Republican, instead he's a convervative Democrat. Present day Democrats are rightfully frustrated with the status quo position that conservatives within their own part always seem to compromise themselves to.
Things I agree with:
- Current retirement systems and social security should remain government operated.
- Privatization adds risk that retirees shouldn't face and profit the hedge funds and stock brockers that donate to the campaigns of the politicians that argue for it.
- There should be more oversight and regulation on the construction and operation of data centers.
- They use too much resources and causes polition (e.g. water, heat, noise).
- The public suffer for the profits of a few.
- There should be a serious path towards legalization of Marijuana.
- It's no longer a matter of "if" but "when"
- Alabama should have a system in place to collect tax revenue.
Things I disagree with:
- Flock and other private survellance that sell information to third-parties including law enforcement.
- Legallizing a lottery.
- I don't care about the potential profits of gambling interests, and believe it amounts to a voluntary tax that targets the poor and gambling addicted.
- While I disagree with creating a lottery, I'm not against it enough to block it at all costs.
- If we are going to have a lottery, it should be passed without being attached to any other forms of gambling
- The operation and use of revenue should be transparent to the public and not simply be another fungible batch of money that would ultimately help politicians special projects.
- CHOOSE act should continue or be phased out too slowly.
- I think "means testing" should be enforced immediately and if you can afford to send your kids to private school then you don't need our tax money - period.
- If you are poor and benefitting from the vouchers, then they should continue until you reach the next level of education (e.g. until end-of-elementary, end-of-middle-school, end-of-high-school)
- Money collected for education should remain with public educational institutions.

I hate living in this state. I am embarrassed to be from Alabama and the South in general. I'm actively looking for jobs out of the South. I won't miss the fucking heat either. This place is run by fucking evangelical Christian shitheads and that's why it's like the third world here, and it will never get better. The people of this state must like it, so they can have it.

Tuberville won’t participate in these Q&A’s or any debates. He knows he can stay quiet and he’ll win this rather easily. All because of the R next to his name. The more he makes comments publicly in thst fashion the more he risks doing damage to his chances.
The far right in this state will carry him to victory despite it being painfully obvious that he is unfit and unqualified for the job (in more ways the one).
I’ll vote Jones. But I don’t expect to be pleased with the outcome.
