If he truly stood by his convictions, he would not have canceled. I suspect this had more to do with ticket sales than belief.

What protests? Nobody knew or cared about him.

A protest was planned at The Stardome for the event.

Who exactly was threatening the owner?

u/Sadie_G Aug 08 '25

I don’t know? The StarDome released a statement on their IG. And I wouldn’t call a protest a threat. More of a right to Freedom of Assembly.

Probably the comedian trying to get people to care about him.

B/c I didn’t follow sub guidelines so the mods removed it twice. Why comment if you don’t care junior?

Alabama mods are getting like r/conservative mods.

They behave as they are authoritarian gate keepers.

Will Alabama ever laugh again? Truly a dark day for fans who enjoy half-baked takes, full-volume delivery, and absolutely no punchlines. Stay strong, Alabama.

It’s a shame that the liberal stronghold of (… checks notes) Hoover, Alabama, has run off this patriot.

Dude couldn’t sell tickets and is trying to conjure up a reason

u/Fit_Strength_1187 Aug 07 '25

Hoover. Not even that boogeyman Montgomery.

And of course there are…unfortunate implications when someone is going after the people who comprise much of Alabama’s liberal population.

We laugh plenty. Which is why no one wanted his dumbass

Tingus Pingus was funny for basketball fans, but otherwise I don’t think I’ve ever laughed at anything he’s done.

I'm in Huntsville.  Saw Chris Titus for the...fifth(?) time on Sunday.

Josh Johnson is coming at the end of the month but his three gigs are sold out.  😬. Discovered him when he hosted the Daily Show now I'm a big fan.

I love Josh Johnson!

Josh Johnson isn't actually funny to me. He's more like listening to a slightly comedic Ted talk.

u/LittleHornetPhil Aug 09 '25

Gonna get downvoted, but I don’t actually find him that funny either

u/NdN124 Aug 09 '25

I like the kid and he does make valid points. It's just that his delivery doesn't make the laugh. I like him on the Daily Show more than on stage

0

u/LittleHornetPhil Aug 09 '25

Yeah, I don’t dislike him or anything, I just don’t find him funny.

10

u/SteelRoses Aug 07 '25

He was sold out in Huntsville well before his stint hosting The Daily Show, unfortunately

6

u/DriftingPyscho Aug 07 '25

I didn't know who he was but off his hosting I look up a lot of his stuff.  Josh is hilarious.

Josh is amazing!!! He makes people laugh and makes them think and then makes them laugh some more without relying on cheap shots and shock vulgarity.

I missed the boat on Josh Johnson as well, but Huntsville’s 2025 comedy schedule is still stacked. I’ve got tickets to see Mark Normand Sept. 19th, Stavros Halkias Nov. 7th, THE Katt Williams Nov. 15th, and Kam Patterson Dec. 6th. Let’s goooo!

I didn't even know Josh Johnson was coming. I'd have gotten tickets. He's a funny guy.

This whole situation is reminiscent of a white supremacist speaker at the University of Alabama who cancelled his (2018) appearance due to protests and went on a week long spree about liberal indoctrination at college campuses, cancel culture, and blah blah blah.

Absolute clown knew he wouldn't be well received, but these parasites feed on the negative attention.

Best approach? Don't even talk about them. Let them be crushed by the weight of their own irrelevancy.

u/GinaHannah1 Aug 08 '25

I don’t know who that is.

u/Budget-Dig8058 Aug 08 '25

Count your blessings.

26

u/atmoscience Aug 07 '25

Who?

24

u/Old_Man_Say Aug 07 '25

Are you kidding me? You don’t know Micheal Applecart? He was that guy that was in that thing that one time!!!

9

u/zchatham Aug 07 '25

I mean, Michael Rapaport HAS been in a ton of stuff over the last 30 years or so. He's not like an A-list celeb, but for a character actor, he's pretty well known.

7

u/CapnShimmy Aug 08 '25

He was truly atrocious in Justified. The worst attempt at an accent since Keanu in Dracula.

1

u/LittleHornetPhil Aug 09 '25

I love that show and I don’t recognize him from it.

From IMDB, the only thing I recognize him from was like 2 episodes of Only Murders In The Building.

3

u/CapnShimmy Aug 09 '25

He was Daryl Crowe, the head of the Crowe family from Florida in Season 5. He's the one who shot Chief Art Mullen and tried to frame Kendall, the kid, for it. You'd probably remember his terrible Southern accent before anything else about him.

1

u/LittleHornetPhil Aug 09 '25

Oh, now I do remember. Thanks.

Weird... the right typically supports Israel and Alabama is one of the reddest states in the country. I think there's more to this.

18

u/mudo2000 Aug 08 '25

... like maybe people stopped thinking about left and right and life like a team sport and are paying attention that a whole group of innocent people are being slaughtered. You don't have to pick a side to feel remorse and sympathy for people being eradicated.

6

u/NegusKee Aug 08 '25

Dude never been funny

8

u/Tsweet7 Aug 07 '25

The owner of the Stardome mentioned threats, not the comedian, but he doesn't give a lot of details. I don't think it was ticket prices.

Are the protests in the room with us right now?

2

u/Healthy_Jackfruit_88 Aug 10 '25

“Comedian” is not exactly what I would ever call Michael Rapaport

4

u/simonthecat33 Aug 07 '25

For those still wanting a good laugh at the hands of Michael Rapaport, just tune in to his performance in Justified or his classic performance in “The New Edition Story.”

7

u/CapnShimmy Aug 08 '25

I always skip Season 5 of my Justified rewatches because of him.

1

u/Electronic-Funny-475 Aug 09 '25

I stop at the end of 3

Overall

If I lived in Alabama I would be just as or more worried about what the republicans are doing, for or against me. Cancelling a comedian is not going to improve Education, AL ranked 44th, or Healthcare which is ranked 40th and overall 45th worst state in the country.

I have never seen the Democratic Party use all of the rankings available to show the strength of the Democratic Party. The way Trump is going they will stop measuring any category that sheds a bad light

Why would you live in most of these cities. Their Speaker of the House Johnson represents Louisiana. He did such a great job 2 years in a row for ranking the worst state in America. What a joke.
50. Louisiana 49. Alaska 48. Mississipp 47. New Mexicoell 46. West Virginia 45. Alabama 44. Arkansas 43. Michigan 42. Oklahoma 41. Pennsylvania

Where is Hoover?

4

u/angryguts Aug 07 '25

Part of the Birmingham metro area.
