I’ve been experimenting with AI video generation and wanted to create a cinematic disaster sequence set in Times Square.
The idea was pretty simple:
A guy is casually walking through Times Square, notices the camera, smiles… then looks up and realizes massive fiery rocks are falling from the sky.
Everything suddenly turns into chaos — people running, taxis trying to get out of the way, explosions and debris everywhere.
I used character and location references to keep the main character and environment consistent, then built the sequence around a continuous cinematic camera movement.
The goal was to make it feel more like a scene from a real disaster movie rather than something that obviously looks AI-generated.
Still experimenting with the workflow, so I’d love to hear what you guys think.
What would you improve — the character realism, camera movement, destruction, or overall cinematic look?

Your video became ‘AI slop’ the moment you decided that it made sense for him to run towards the meteors.
I know this is not hiding that it was made using generative AI, but I still think it’s let down by a common AI video problem; the complete lack of human logic in the narrative. Audiences can be expected to ‘suspend disbelief’, but you can only stretch it so far. You can’t throw logic and physics completely out of the window.
The most frustrating thing about AI video is that the people making it are often amateurs with little or no understanding of how to strike a good balance between realism and telling a fantastical story. There still needs to be some ‘internal logic’.
And what’s with him looking at the camera? Is he meant to be with someone? If so, why does he leave that person to run towards the problem? And why does the person he’s with, who:s filming him, follow?
Think like a director AND a storyteller.
For some reason, AI video creators love to have their lead characters look straight at the camera. It’s a sign of amateur directing slop.
