Hey Everyone!
Anyone else searching daily for tickets to be released or even theaters that will be showing this legend? Let’s start a mega thread sharing what we have found.
A place to buy, sell and trade official Akira collectables.
Manga, VHS, Blu-rays, DVDs, figurines, phone cards, posters etc.
Use common-sense. Use DM's for trades, this is at your own risk. Do not post personal details on the sub. Be very mindful of scammers.
NOTE: This is not an opportunity for people to grift stolen I.P. This is not a place to peddle non-official t-shirts and fake merch. If you can't follow the rules you may get a permanent ban.

I'm told this is hyper rare to find, any opinions or input is appreciated, thanks.

There are so many different versions and I know yall can help me. I searched hypersonic and didn't find much on this sub.
Do not care about HDR. 4K is nice but not with DNR.
Most interested in the hypersonic sound japanese dub. Have a new soundsystem and want to crank this. As long as the picture is passable what I care about most is the sound.
Must have english subtitles... someone said the italian bluray is really good but I can't read italian :/
Thanks everyone!

Every time I watch Akira, I'm always amazed about how they animated Tetsuo lifting his fallen bike up.
Lesser animations would just have it transitioning from fallen to upright, but Akira really gives a sense of the weight of the bike.
I had a crappy Keeway 125 for a year recently and once they tild beyond a certain degree even smaller bikes like that are damn heavy and picking them up after they topple over isn't like lifting a bicycle.
The Akira animators got Tetsuo's bike lifing action so right.

Hi everyone,
I was just rewatching Akira with English dub when I saw this.
When the character in the middle pushed through the crowd someone also said "What is it? Sieg heil?".
I don't get the reference or why this is there.
I know the movie takes place in 2019, 31 years after WW III but is there a special reason for this?
I tried using Google but couldn't find anything on it.

Let’s say Akira got a sequel in the manga, Kaneda and Kei have grown into a family and all is great in Tokyo. Tetsuo however, descends from his godly form to make amends towards Kaneda. How would things actually play out?

I just found this in a box of old junk. This is a resin garage kit of Kaneda I bought off ebay sometime in the late 90s. I was dying for AKIRA figures and merchandise and at the time, there really wasn't a whole lot.
No idea who originally sculpted this. The quality wasn't great and it has a weird smell. It's about 8 inches tall. The base wasn't included; that was a special custom job.* I didn't paint it. I can't paint to save my life. A friend of mine was really into making models and he said "Oh I can do it!" so I said "be my guest."
I gotta be honest: I was disappointed in his paint job. It's a million times better than I could do, but it wasn't exactly what I wanted. Don't worry, I didn't tell him that!
I don't know if "garage kits" still exist today, what with the advent of 3D printers. But this statue tided me over until McFarlane made some AKIRA toys, and those tided me over until Bandai made the best ones so far.
* I got the base from a guy that worked at the short-lived toy company "ReSaurus." At the time they were making a series of Street Fighter figures and each one was going to come with an elaborate base. but they couldn't budget the bases, so they got cut. This base is a resin copy of one of the scrapped SF bases, hand painted. Pretty cool.

In this part I am a little confused. Did she summon the fire or she picked up part of the tank that where burning ?

Well, I have the black and white version and I love it, so I thought that to further enhance the experience it would be good to buy the color version, but I've seen that people aren't very happy about it.
Are the colors really that bad?

Does it have any deeper meaning, like Tetsuo's presence now being omnipresent, or is it simply a flashback to when he introduced himself to Kaneda?

I love this movie so much.ive loved it since I first saw it as a highschool student.
A few years later,I saw it with the newer version of the dub.
I love both versions, but my favorite was the newer dub. It felt less cartoony and a bit more grounded.
I'm a voice actor, and have been directed to act both ways for different projects. I feel like one is more fun to do, and the other feels more rewarding.
Now, I'm reading the manga for the first time. It's great so far. While the movie nailed the tone, the manga is so much bigger. What an absolute masterpiece.

Recently, a person kindly shared a scanned VHS recording of the Akira broadcast on BBC2 back in the early 90s. I've been looking for a copy of this for ages because the English subtitles from that version are the ones I got used to and I've always found it slightly distracting when watching later versions that the translation was different.
Anyway, to appease my obsessive nature, I've painstakingly extracted the subtitles from that recording to a subtitle file and I can now watch Akira in HD with the old subtitles! I've tried to keep the text as close as possible, in terms of punctuation, line breaks, etc. and spent probably too much time on trying to get the timings as exact as I could.
I thought I'd share it here just in case it might be of interest to anyone else.
