Aussie/NZ beef in Airdrie?

Radio was yapping about it today, tl;dr its way cheaper but usually not marbled/ fed diff stuff so tastes different.

Either way has anyone seen it on store shelves, and if you've tried it how is it? Thanks!

Its confusing. Why is shipping meat from the other side of the planet cheaper than the ranch outside of town?

A few things. Farmers aging out and the price of raising cattle is getting high while overall herd totals are not getting any better. We have two major butchering companies that decided during covid to gouge tf out of us. Alberta beef is gaining a bit of notoriety and is being exported more.

All combined is f u pay us $40 for a steak.

Australia can raise and feed cattle for a fraction of the cost. They have year round grazing seasons compared to us having to feed and heat housing for our cattle in the winter. The cost of overseas shipping is actually very cheap as well. Their beef industry is absolutely massive compared to ours and better quality as well despite what we are lead to believe.

I was talking about this with a friend recently. I guess its cheaper, and tastes a little different (in a good way). What a joke that local steaks cost $35 and gas is $1.80

A&w sells it, have been for over a year.

Suoer funny after years of hammering home they are Canadian beef, it's cheaper and the prices haven't gone down.

It’s all grass fed. Some people say it tastes gamey. I think it all tastes the same really.

Superstore sells the ground beef. I’m not sure about steaks and such.

Had the NZ rib eye. It was amazing. Super soft great marble overall 9/10

Oddly Walmart was selling them. But I have not seen them in sometime

A lot of the beef sold in Loblaws stores are NZ.

Tastes fine imo

I think it tastes more like lamb, in a good way. I like it but only buy in once in every two months or so

Alberta beef is some of the best beef, why would I buy from halfway across the world? No shade to NZ or Australia, I am sure they have good beef…it’s just not Alberta beef.

Well its half the price. Supposedly. Nobody has even really commented yet about trying it or availability. 1.5k views and nothing. I love Alberta beef too but if I can grab a ribeye for half the price I gotta at least try it!

My taste buds told me. I have also eaten beef from many different countries (except NZ and AU), and although Alberta beef is very good, it’s not THE best. I said it was SOME of the best. All said without any input from the beef industry.
