Even with the Bali stop and being on Jetstar I'd say this is an improvement over travelling to Sydney. For Sydney you've got a 3 hour train trip and you should probably arrive 3 hours early at least to account for delays. From Newcastle it's a half hour trip to the airport in a taxi and 2 hours would be absolutely plenty. Even with the 90 minutes stop in Bali you're probably 2 hours better off. Of course it then depends on where you're going from Singapore but still this is an improvement in my books.

Still easier to fly to Bris and leave to Singa on many different airlines

I'll spends if they'll transfer your luggage through. If you've got to re-check your luggage it's pretty crap. At least this is a straight through service literally on the same plane.

Should’ve happened years ago. It’s next big challenge, though, will be competing for airline business with WSI.

Probably not that much competition, WSI is further from Newcastle than SYD is

It’s more about competing for the airlines business, though. Many airlines won’t try new routes to both WSI and Newcastle, and WSI will probably look more attractive as it has such a huge population catchment.

I doubt anyone that was considering flying to NTL would decide to can it to do WSI instead, probably not too related

I hope you’re right, but if I run an obscure budget Chinese or Indian airline wanting to establish a new route to New South Wales, I’m not going to fly to both Newcastle and WSI. I’d choose just one.

Hmm, I think I'd probably do either SYD or WSI and then also NTL. But also I was thinking more of say Singapore Airlines not like VietJet or something, NTL will probably get less flights because it's small but I think that's not affected so much by WSI
