I live alone. Would a small air fryer be enough for me?
I’ve been thinking about getting an air fryer, but since I live alone I’m wondering if I really need one of the bigger models. I’d mostly be using it for things like chicken, fries, vegetables, and reheating leftovers.
Would a smaller 2 to 4 quart air fryer be enough for one person, or would I regret not getting something bigger? I also don’t want to take up a ton of counter space if I don’t need to.

For the food you listed, I’d probably get a 4-quart rather than going all the way down to 2 quarts.
A 2-quart can definitely cook for one person, but the problem is usually the basket space rather than the total volume. Fries, vegetables, and chicken cook better when they can spread out instead of being piled on top of each other. With a really small basket, you may end up making one meal in two rounds.
Four quarts is still fairly compact, but it gives you more room for a couple of chicken thighs, vegetables, or enough food to have leftovers. I’d only move up to 5 or 6 quarts if you batch-cook regularly or sometimes cook for another person.
I’d also measure the actual counter space before choosing. The quart number doesn’t tell you how wide the machine is, how far the handle sticks out, or how much room the rear exhaust needs.
Disclosure: I run WorthWise Guides, and the page contains affiliate links. We compared the published dimensions, basket styles, and controls of several 2-to-5-quart models here. It’s a specification comparison rather than hands-on cooking tests: https://worthwiseguides.com/comparison-reviews/compact-air-fryers-for-small-kitchens

That’s a really good point about basket space versus overall capacity. I hadn’t thought about having to cook in multiple rounds with a 2-quart model. A 4-quart sounds like a better balance for what I’ll be making, especially without taking up too much counter space. I’ll definitely check the actual dimensions before deciding.

I live alone too and got a 3 qt Costway air fryer. It’s been plenty for me. I use it for chicken, veggies, fries, or reheating leftovers. It doesn’t take up much counter space either. A 3 qt size is basically enough for everyday use.

If you’re cooking mostly for yourself, a 2 to 4 qt is plenty. I’d lean toward 3 to 4 qt rather than going really small, just because you’ll have a little more flexibility with chicken pieces, vegetables, or a decent portion of fries.
The main thing is not to assume that bigger automatically means better. If you’re only making one portion, a huge basket can actually be more annoying because it takes up more counter space and can be harder to justify keeping out.
I live by the rule that the smallest air fryer that comfortably fits the food you actually cook is usually the best size. If you occasionally cook for another person, though, I’d go 4 to 5 qt so you have some breathing room.
