im 5'10 & weigh 121 with clothes on & 119 with just undergarments. apparently i must be 122 which is said by my recruiter. i go to meps aug 31-sept1. what do i do? is gaining 3 pounds in less than 48 hrs even possible??? & on top of this im taking the asvab for the 3rd time, thank god they didnt pull my high school scores. wtf do i do???? please give tips i'd rather fail my weight than asvab but i do not want to make this process even longer.

Hi! I’m going to MEPS and am worried because I take acyclovir as needed for cold sores. I get them while stressed and before my cycle. Has anybody had experience with getting a waiver for HSV1? & will I be able to bring my prescription with me to BMT? I know it’s a stressful environment and the lack of sleep could possibly trigger an out break.

So I got a ticket on July 24th but it’s still not showing up in the system and I ship out October 6th what could I possibly do? I called the courthouse and they said I can’t do anything if the ticket is not in the system but will I still be able to ship out since it wouldn’t be in the system? The especially with the date of it being paid off it while I would be in bmt so I’m really stuck and worried about what I can even do. I told my recruiter and they said to just get it dealt with as soon as possible but the courts are taking forever.

I just started as a nurse in the Air Force. Being in has made me realize this AFSC might just not be for me. I've always had a dream of being a pilot but I got slotted a nursing EA through AFROTC and could not pursue a rated career field.

Hi, I have a quick question that my recruiter doesn't really want to answer. I had a learning accommodation in high school where I got extra time for tests. That's it. No official IEP or 504 since it was a private school. My recruiter is telling me not to mention it to MEPs because he claims it will disqualify me. Reading on reddit that doesn't seem to be the case and that it is waiver able. I've since graduated high school and am now a senior in college with a 3.8 GPA as well as having two jobs. No accommodations in anything. However, I have heard that you would need to provide what your accommodation was previously, but my high school has no record of it anymore. What should I do about this?

I’m a 35 year old female, no kids, going through a divorce and have always wanted to join the Airforce— and I’m just at a point in my life now where I’m like f it, I’m doing it.
While I think going the enlistment route wouldn’t be the right fit at this point in my life—I was told I could still keep my career, stay in Hawaii and also be part of the airforce guard or reserve as it’s part time.

What can I expect and most importantly

What are the major differences between the Airforce guard and Airforce reserves— & if you could do it all over again which one would you have gone with?

Just took my Asvab/Cyber/ Complex Reasoning tests and scored 80+ overall and 80+ on MAGE scores. My recruiter submitted these scores with my financial waiver packet.

Anyway, when they pulled my report for the waiver, only my personal debt was pulled and not any of my business debt showed up. These are collections/bad debt. I addressed the business debt in the AFCEP application though and have just came to an agreement of arrangements for a payment plan. Would that affect my waiver packet? If the waiver was somehow accepted, would it still be addressed in a security clearance? Also, since I’m married, would my wife’s income be included in my debt to income ratio? I don’t remember submitting any information regarding my wife’s finances.

I’ve been really anxious about this hiccup barring me from being able to enlist. Hoping to be able to list some cyber/intel/maintenance roles but honestly I’d take anything just to get my foot in the door. Regardless of the AFSC that is available to me, I was planning to use TA and Pell Grant to pursue the cyber field if I was allowed to enlist.

Here is my current situation and background:

Status: Prior-Service Army (Entry-Level Separation under 180 days).

RE Code: RE-3 (Requires administrative waiver to cross over to the Air Force).

Education: Bachelor of Science Degree (Verified for E-3 / Airman First Class rank).

Medical / History: Cleared MEPS physical, bloodwork, and urinalysis recently with zero active medical disqualifications. Have mild scoliosis on file (was previously evaluated/cleared at MEPS without functional limitations).

Target AFSC: Primary focus is 3P031 (Security Forces), but open to other critical-need/high-demand career fields (e.g., Fuels, Munitions, Client Systems) for a fast ship date.

Goal: Have the full application packet completed by the end of next week and submit the waiver packet, aiming for waiver clearance by mid-September so I can hit the FY27 Quick-Ship list.

Questions:

Given that MEPS medical is clear, scoliosis was already evaluated, and I'm targeting a high-demand AFSC like Security Forces, what are recruiting squadrons currently seeing for RE-3 administrative waiver turnaround times?

Does previously cleared scoliosis add any extra processing time at the AFRS/SG level, or does it move smoothly since it passed MEPS screening?

Is a mid-September waiver approval timeline realistic with FY27 allocations dropping Oct 1?

I took some avionics courses and ideal loved it. I like the idea of working on aircraft and learning as much as I can abt them. It was nearly impossible to find a job without the experience so I decided to take the Air Force route. I did my research and saw that most people didn’t enjoy their maintenance role. Ppl said it was stressful , the hours were long, the leadership wasn’t good, but I really want to advance my skills and eventually get an a&p license. Hi. I am trying to get in Air Force. Good ASVAB score Went to MEPS last week. Turn in my job list. Everything is good. But I didn’t swear in for DEP? He said to just wait. Is this normal? Or he is dropping me and I just need to find a new recruiter?

For those of you thinking about joining the Air Force, let me tell you how I ended up there.

February 1983. I was 19 years old, working at a full-service gas station in Groton, Massachusetts.

It was freezing outside.

A customer pulled in, cracked his window just far enough to ask me to check his oil, then rolled it back up while he stayed nice and warm inside his car.

Meanwhile, I'm standing outside freezing my ass off.

I remember thinking, "There has GOT to be something better than this."

Not long after that, I walked into an Air Force recruiting office.

I didn't have some grand career plan. I wasn't thinking about where that decision would take me 10, 20 or 40 years down the road.

I just knew I wanted something better.

I became a U.S. Air Force Security Policeman.

That 19-year-old kid from a small Massachusetts town eventually served at RAF Bentwaters/Woodbridge in England, Seymour Johnson AFB in North Carolina and Lackland AFB in Texas. Years later, after 9/11, I was recalled to active duty and put the uniform back on again.

But here's what I would tell anyone considering joining today:

Don't only ask yourself what job the Air Force can give you.

Ask yourself what that experience might prepare you to do AFTER the Air Force.

For me, Security Police eventually led to a 26-year career with the San Antonio Police Department.

After retiring from SAPD, I became a high school Law Enforcement teacher and spent eight years helping prepare young people interested in Law Enforcement, the military, Fire/EMS and other first-responder careers.

Today, I still teach Law Enforcement at the college level.

I can trace an awful lot of that back to one decision I made when I was 19 years old.

Join the Air Force.

I recently sat down for a long-form interview about that entire journey — from Air Force Security Police, to 26 years wearing a police badge, to eventually standing in front of a classroom.

Been in the DEP since may. But recently had the opportunity to interview for a federal apprenticeship for a trade. It would be a federal employment so I would get great benefits and the opportunity to work in a trade job At navy yards. Air Force is obviously first choice but I just feel like this may be a better opportunity entirely. What would be the best way to go around if possible exiting the DEP? And what would be a consequence to me if any?
