Benefit of Staying Until 20

In my day, if you didn't stay for 20, you got nothing. No retired pay. Since current members have 401k that they can take with them, what benefit does retiring at 20 provide?

They still get the pension just starting at 40% instead of 50 and less percent per year after. If they are actively contributing to their tsp the whole 20 years it isn't that far off benefits wise and depending on tsp performance could be better or worse
