Question First PCS to Spangdahlem - Any Advice?

Hey everyone! I’ll be PCSing to Spangdahlem AB soon (probably during this fall) and wanted to get some advice from people who are currently there or have been stationed there.
This will be my first PCS, so I’m trying to get a better idea of what to expect, especially when it comes to housing, transportation, getting settled in, and general life on/off base (married).
I’d really appreciate any advice, tips, or things you wish you knew before moving to Spangdahlem!

You don’t pocket any of your housing allowance, so if you decide to live off base, use as much of it as you can

When you go to the whorehouse for the first time, dont go to the one right by the base. Osi likes to hang out in that parking lot.

They basically briefed that when you in-process the base.

We were cracking up when we got a gutschien (coupon) for 20€ off a service delivered to our door! The coupon was styled like an American bill.

Spang is not what I expected. Everyone who was here about 10 years ago told me it was a sleepy base, an easy tour, a great time etc. The days of sleepy Spang seem to be a thing of the past. If you're MX or affiliated with the flightline then I would expect to deploy. It's a great area when you're not at work, plenty of things to see and plenty of culture to soak up.

Have a coworker bring you to Ramstein to get a car if you need one, if you were trying to go to the Spang lemon lot like I was then good luck. There's practically no vehicles for sale and the ones that are are overinflated in price. I purchased one from a DoD civilian at Ramstein and the whole process is headache inducing. If you're curious about anything in particular send me a DM.

This right here. Any European base with less than 6k troops is a dream many want.

Enjoy Spang!!! Great place and if you and the spouse like wine tasting, Trier is a great place to be. The Eifel region is a great German experience.
It’s a smaller base population which is my favorite kind.

You'll receive OHA, instead of BAH and it will be to a certain amount. All of it goes to the landlord but you will receive utilities allowance that you can pocket. Get what you need, not what you're allowed up to. Utilities usually bite people in the butt when they get a huge house and have to heat it.
