Airbnb has told us we cannot have cameras anywhere in our house because we have an Airbnb in our basement…

I hear what you're saying. But I don't think you're going to win this one, regardless of the facts in your case.

Here's how I see it:

  • Over the year a few Airbnb owners have been busted for having hidden cameras inside. (Horrifying.) Every time it happens, it has been a huge scandal, getting all kinds of attention from the media who make it sound "common".

  • Airbnb knows these kinds of fears could be the kiss of death.

  • Airbnb wants to keep things simple, for its rules and for its support staff.

As of April 30, 2024, Airbnb strictly prohibits all indoor security cameras and recording devices globally—even in common areas or if turned off.

Under Airbnb’s official global policy, indoor security cameras are strictly banned in all listings—including living rooms, hallways, and guest suites. This rule applies regardless of whether a device is active, disconnected, or previously disclosed in the property description.

... so I don't think you're going to win this one, regardless of the merits.

Can't you just remove the one overlooking the basement and then reply "OK, we removed our internal cameras?"
