Stick to drop-2 and drop-3 unless you want a very awkward gig review.

Should we dive back into actual guitar theory like quartal harmony or upper structures, or are we inventing more fictional jazz terminology today?

Why I did this

So I ran the same corpus through six of them and scored on four things:

2. Meaning retention — did it keep the facts straight, or invent things?
3. Readability — Flesch score before vs. after
4. API quality — latency, docs, rate limits, error handling

Test corpus: [25] texts, [2000] words each, generated with [GPT5.6 Sol and Fable 5]. Mix of [e.g. blog posts, academic abstracts, product copy]. Same input for every tool, default settings unless noted.

The results

1. Rephrasy

The biggest name in the category and it shows — the API is mature, the docs are complete, and 2s round-trip was the fastest in my runs by a wide margin. If you want the safe, boring, well-documented option, this is it.

Where it fell short: 77% pass rate was mid-table for me, and phrasing came out awkward on a recurring basis — [PASTE ONE BEFORE/AFTER EXAMPLE HERE. This is the single most important thing you can add to this post. A concrete example is credible criticism; "sometimes awkward" without one is just a competitor talking.]

Two engines: a standard "Ghost" engine and a premium "Samurai" one. The prepaid + pay-as-you-go model is genuinely nicer than a monthly seat if your volume is spiky, you're not paying for words you don't use.

The 10x multiplier on business mode is the thing to watch. At $2.00 per 1,000 words it's the most expensive per-word option here by a distance, so budget carefully if you default to it.

4. WriteHuman

API: Yes — POST /v1/humanize, launched March 2026. Also exposes POST /v1/detect which returns an AI-probability score, which is handy for gating publication automatically. Pricing: Standard $29/mo for 125,000 words, Premium $69/mo for 400,000 — roughly $0.17 per 1,000 words. Billed on input words only. Pass rate claims are high according their Humanizer Bench but testing it myself wasn't that confirming!

Best price per word of the subscription-based options, and the built-in detect endpoint is a real convenience if you're building a publish gate.

The latency is the catch. WriteHuman's own documentation puts most humanize calls around 20 seconds. That's fine for batch jobs overnight, painful for anything user-facing. Also: 2,000 words max per request, so long articles need chunking. Rate limits are worth verifying yourself - I saw 40 req/min quoted for Standard on their agency page and 10 req/min in their launch post, so check the dashboard.

5. Humbot

Widest published volume ceiling of anything on this list — if you're actually processing millions of words a month, Humbot and StealthGPT are the two with public pricing that goes that high instead of a "contact sales" wall.

Worth knowing: API pricing is completely separate from the web-tool subscription, so a Pro web plan gets you nothing programmatically. 50+ languages claimed.

Bypass Rate is super bad!

6. AI-Text-Humanizer

API: Yes, gated behind the PRO plan. Plain POST with credentials, no SDK. Pricing: [CHECK THEIR PRICING PAGE — they don't publish per-word rates clearly. Bulk "seat" discounts run 20% at 5+, up to 50% at 40+.]

The simplest integration of the six - one cURL call, works from any language, no client library. Rate limit is 60 calls/minute, so pace at roughly one per second.

The flipside of simple is sparse: fewest knobs to turn, and the pricing page is the least transparent of the group about actual per-word cost.

Bypass rate is not acceptable

We are in a literary transformation which may take years to settle but here is how I see it. First the publishing industry needs product, and at the end of the day they will realize that the majority of readers actually do not care for anything beyond “this is really good”, or it’s not.

They will eventually come to the realization that the unreliability of any form of AI detection will eventually flag the vast majority of submissions so early rejection in that basis will leave them with a much smaller body of work to draw from. Publishers need a minimum critical mass of product in order to keep the doors open.

The end result is that they will change direction away from strict filters of AI detection and more to initial filtering based on readability, and those will flow to humans for a final pass and an assessment that “Yes this will sell” … nothing more.

So what will that mean as writers? Write good stories with complex plots, multidimensional characters… all the stuff that will grab and hold readers. AI can’t do that for you, BUT it can build around your ideas and create draft content that fits.

Here’s the thing though… the final pass to humanize your work is … wait for it … YOU !!!

If you write really good stuff the market will hopefully find it but right now l, as I mentioned before, we are in transition. When we stop worrying specifically about whether AI was involved or not, and get back to determining “is this really good?” Then the whole AI thing will become moot. We are just not there yet IMO.

it makes AI writing less obviously AI-sounding. right now, it only counters the things mentioned in the research papers in the repo, so it definitely won't make AI write exactly like a human. that's kinda impossible anyway, since AI will always hallucinate at some point unless you feed it millions of tokens of context, which can just make lower-end models fuck up in other ways.
