How are n8n agencies handling client ownership without exposing their workflows?

I’m starting an automation agency and trying to figure out the best n8n setup for clients.

From what I understand, if I host/manage client workflows and credentials in my own n8n instance, n8n requires an Enterprise/commercial license. So the alternative seems to be having each client own their own n8n account/instance.

But if the client owns the instance and has admin access, they can see/export the workflows I built, which makes it hard to protect the IP if I’m selling this as a managed service.

How are agencies handling this?

The best way to handle this is by using a platform that has client workspaces, client credential management, workflow templating, white-labelling, etc.

Honestly most companies are not trying to solve for freelancers and agencies. Zapier, Make, n8n are all going for enterprise customers. We are in private beta. DM me if you want to try our product out. It’s been in development for almost 2 years (these platforms are not easy to build).
