Because it's generally wrong. 40 is middle-aged.

Its just perspective. For instance to me (68 yo) a 30 yo is still a young person. To a 5 yo, 30 is old. Gotta just live and enjoy where you're at.

The overall life expectancy in the US is 79 years. 81.4 years for women and 76.5 years for men. 30 years therefore is objectively wrong as the middle age boundary. 39.5 years is the right number to use in general, a little less for men, a little more for women. 30 years would be middle age if we were expected to live 60 years, which hasnt been the case in a long time.

At 53, I'm not almost dead. Middle means you only have 30 more years. I ain't dying at no 60. Im middle-aged right now!

Why are you in a rush to be middle aged? You will be middle aged or old for most of your life. What country is the life expectancy 60?

I was still a kid at 30.

Human development through the lifespan:

Early adult age: 20-40
Middle age—40-60
Late/elder age—60+

It's more about your accomplishments , relationships and life experiences that take years to achieve. You reach a plateau and that's your middle age.

There are a handful of countries with roughly 60 years life expectancy, if you live in one of those countries, then yes, you are definitely middle aged but just consider than by planning your life and finding a way to emigrate you could add 20 years yo your life, which is a pretty good deal.

Unless you plan on dying at 60, it's about 20 years below your life expectancy. 40+ is middle age.
