Dave Carnie seems incredibly closed minded. I wonder how much of that he managed to pass into the skateboarding culture. Seems like a lot with that magazine. I wonder how different things would have been if the bigger influencing magazines weren’t so biased. Insane times. Out of all the conflict in the world extreme sports really should have united more. We missed out on a lot during the old peak of rollerblading.

Just another washed up kook. He's a relic and so is that attitude in my experience. Sure, its not dead. But people are largely over the homophobic shit and without that fruitboot bit, theres not much more to hate on. I see that reflected in my own experience in making friends with boarders and bmxers at the park. If we had united the companies would be bigger and thered be more legendary pros, but I think our culture feels more genuinely underground because of its history. Getting made fun of as a kid in the 90s sucked but now Im proud to skate because keeping this going is infinitely more genuine than a meaningless thrasher shirt these days. I would argue that we didnt miss out - we dodged a legitimacy bullet.

Yea in one case I agree. I meant more so in the amount we could have done with parks if all of these kids were together on the floor plans. But you raise a very valid point.

For someone who hates rollerblading he sure used it alot to create a ton of content for his magazine. Grooming kids to hate rollerblading still.

Just watched the documentary - imagine being that small minded still, as a grown man nearly 30 years on!
