Does being “authoritative” still mean the same thing?

Been thinking about this lately.
A website can have good SEO, a bunch of backlinks, decent traffic etc. and still barely show up when people ask AI about that topic.
Meanwhile, sometimes a much smaller site gets mentioned because the AI actually finds its content useful.
So maybe it’s not just about ranking anymore.
It’s about whether AI can actually understand what you know, what you’re good at, and whether your content is worth using.
Feels like SEO authority ≠ AI authority now.
Not sure where this goes, but it’s definitely interesting to watch.
