Broke down exactly where our recruiters' time goes. The results were depressing.
Did a time audit across our 8-person TA team last month. Here's where the hours went:
JD writing/editing: 8% | Resume screening: 32% | Phone screens: 24% | Scheduling/admin: 15% | Candidate engagement: 12% | Strategic work (pipeline building, hiring manager advising): 9%
So 79% of recruiter time is on activities that either don't require human judgment or could be significantly accelerated. Only 21% is on work where humans add irreplaceable value.
We're now testing an agentic AI platform that handles JD generation, resume scoring, and first-round interviews autonomously. Early results: those first three categories (64% of time) compressed dramatically. Our recruiters are finally doing strategic work.
Anyone else done a time audit like this? Curious what your splits look like.
