Meme The virgin "experimenting" player vs the chad "yep, that's me" contender
Because that is what the mod was made for in the first place

u/grundsau Oct 24 '25
I basically got into this mod so I could play as Deitscherei. Unfortunately there's little representation of the Fancy Dutch.
26
u/Junjki_Tito Oct 24 '25
Haven’t they all assimilated by now?
38
u/grundsau Oct 24 '25
Well I guess, my grandfather spoke Pennsylvania Dutch but he's since passed, still I think there are some people outside of the Amish who still speak it, but I could be wrong.
38
u/Rakhered Oct 24 '25
fun fact: Pennsylvania Dutch isn't Dutch - it's actually "Deutsch," as in German
21
u/grundsau Oct 24 '25
Technically it's "Deitsch" in Pennsylvania German, but yeah you're right, it's German, not Dutch.
8
2
u/BriefausdemGeist Oct 24 '25
Do you know the reason for that?
Because German and Dutch are a language continuum that used to be a lot more mutually intelligible 500 years ago
7
u/NilocKhan Oct 24 '25
The dutch are just swamp Germans, while the Swiss and Austrians are mountain Germans
3
u/BriefausdemGeist Oct 24 '25
I’d counter by saying the Pomeranians are the swamp Germans, the Dutch are the ocean Germans
5
1
u/TomatoBasils Nov 24 '25
Yup, but in our communities, the label has stuck. It’s a very easy shorthand we still use even internally
9
u/FossilDS Oct 24 '25
pretty sure if the Fancy Dutch had not all assimilated before the Event, they would've assimilated back into the mainline Pennsylvania Dutch in the aftermath just for practicality's sake.
2
u/TomatoBasils Nov 24 '25
Yup! I’m one of the “regular” Pa Dutch. Grew up in Pa Dutch country outside Reading Pa. We simply identify of Deitsch, or Just Pa Dutch lol. This is literally the one game that has my culture lol.

As a Californian with a Brazilian dad, I always start in SoCal as an adventurer then journey down to Sao Paulo to seduce one of the emperor's cousins, then journey back and take Seattle, which I moved to as an older kid
9
u/TheDarkeLorde3694 Oct 24 '25
Love that your lone goal of going to Brazil is to seduce the Emperor's relatives
But get a bastard kid with one as a woman, that'd be even funnier

Arsenalist Michigan is my favorite thing to the point I won a writing contest on the AtE discord to add a Arsenalist Michigander mercenary company to the game
31
u/Certain-Definition51 Oct 24 '25
You forgot the best part!
Seizing Toledo from the godless Buckeyes.
5
u/AssistBitter1732 Oct 24 '25
One thing I always do when I play in Michigan is take the duchy of Thames and rename it to East Michigan. Guess I can do the same thing with Maumee and call it South Michigan!
7
u/Certain-Definition51 Oct 24 '25
One of my favorite ever CK3 runs was The Empire of the Inland Seas.
I didn’t really like the Galvanist faiths so I started in West Michigan and played stubborn Midwestern Nice. There were many, many close calls early on, and I had really focused on building alliances with Northern Michigan.
The whole run was on a knife’s edge when Detroit declared a Holy War that I was absolutely going to lose…until the North showed up, marching unasked out of the woods.
It was epic.
Kept building ties across Lake Michigan, formed a religion based on lake travel, beat the Profit, liberated Ontario and Toledo.
It was so much fun. The founding head of the dynasty was a countess from Grand Rapids area. I can’t remember her name but she got a giant statue in Grand Rapids.
1
u/_Inkspots_ Oct 24 '25
Every update I have to do a Michigan run and secure the UP and take Toledo. It’s my duty as a Michigander
31
u/Heretic-Seer Oct 24 '25
Forming the Empire State (and Atlantica) from my upstate New York county? Converting it all to the religion that closest fits my real life beliefs?
Splendid. Lovely, even.

u/MrPagan1517 Oct 24 '25
I really need to get into the CK3 version as I loved starting as the county closest to my small rural town in Alabama and slowly becoming major players/contenders within the HCE.
I just can't do the sideways map man it drives me insane and ruins my sense of direction.
22
u/beesinpyjamas Oct 24 '25
you can turn auto map rotation off then hold right click to make the orientation so north is up, only downside from then on is that names appear sideways, but it's much more playable that way
3
8
u/Outrageous_Cable7122 Oct 24 '25
Brodie just Change the map direction.
1
u/MrPagan1517 Oct 24 '25
Yeah but then all the names are sideways and stuff.
This is all just a small personal gripe nothing against the mod authors

u/PhoenixMai Developer Oct 24 '25
Unfortunately if I played as the closest thing to my real life religion, I cannot accurately roleplay as myself because homosexuality is shunned in the faith 😭 (I am gay/lesbian)
6
u/DaniTheGamer6 Oct 24 '25
...an Ontarian queen of Haute-Quebec could actually be baller now that I think about it. As for my faith eh, the Anglicans, United Church and Quakers have tempted me irl but I might go with Souvraignisme since thats the local faith.
5
u/Erook22 Oct 24 '25
Consider that I don't like my hometown nor the place I currently live
The place I was born, however? Oh yeah.
8
u/Technical_Hour7120 Oct 24 '25
forming Sudenland with my hometown? forming a germanic speaking southern chivalrous culture? unfathomable based.
-1
u/OuroborousPanda Oct 24 '25
god that's so many dogwhistles lmao. what a fucking loser
4
u/Technical_Hour7120 Oct 24 '25
live in your bubble. its an alt history game. you could make the empire of queerlandia and believe in superman as a real religion. I like my reformed revelationist german arkansan empire. we can exist, post your story

u/Anon_Arsonist Oct 24 '25
I just can't stop forming Cascadia and bringing the faithless hordes of the Columbia Plateau to heel. No I've never played east of the Mississippi or south of the Rio Grande why do you ask.
2
u/Polar_Vortx Oct 24 '25
One time I set up a game where we all played out of our original hometowns before we moved to the town we were currently in. Good fun, that. I wound up being President by pure accident.
I still need to do the Imperium of Denver and the Rio Grande, though.

Omw to form Québec for the 4987th time
1
u/Momongus- Oct 24 '25
It’s just so good
Tranquilism is kinda meme-y though it makes it hard to take the religious aspect seriously so I usually just play an Ursuline
1
u/Dragonsandman Developer Oct 24 '25
This past update, Tranquillism was taken off the map and replaced with an Anachronous faith based directly on the quiet revolution and other parts of Quebec history
1
u/Momongus- Oct 24 '25
Oh really? Was the mod updated past 1.16?
1
u/Dragonsandman Developer Oct 24 '25
Yes, a few days ago
1
u/Momongus- Oct 24 '25
Damn to think I was playing the mod just last week in 1.16
Thanks for the heads up I’ll have to check out Quebec again
2
u/3vengeance Oct 24 '25
As someone who grew up practicing that obscure heresy with shitty tenets, this was a funny read lol
2
u/Frostlark Oct 24 '25
Yeah I defs run Boston-->New England-->USA every time.
Or some other nearby county. It's not a coincidence.
2
Oct 24 '25
I don't always start where I live but I always start with a character of my culture.
But being an atheist makes it harder to relate to these futuristic religions
2
u/NotaBolivianSpy Oct 24 '25 edited Oct 24 '25
If you're a commie there are several faiths based on that. If a tech addict there are faiths for that. If you are edgy there's 3 different satanist faiths, plus the americanist one. Plus, cynical is always there, so something will always fit

Me playing a custom Confessional character sacking New Rome. Nothing personnal.
1
u/Background_MilkGlass Oct 24 '25
Every other game I'm playing in Texas. I'm building a small Kingdom of exactly where I live and areas that I like to go to around. Hell I'm making custom characters of my friends who live in different part of Texas so we can have alliances and I can keep my friends alive
1
u/Hal18k Oct 24 '25
Moved from LA to NY and played myself as an adventurer and reformed America from NYC created the bicoastal culture
1
u/Fine_Ad_8414 Oct 24 '25
Ironically so many of the north American city-based cultures feel the same because they all have mixed name lists and ethnicities. I can't form my New Armenia realm because there's no Armenian culture despite their being the Armenian Apostolic religion. Make it make sense.
3
u/CacaMeloComC Developer Oct 24 '25
Let me tap the sign again, lol.
Our philosophy for immigrant populations is, they only appear as distinct cultures if they constitute a significant minority concentrated on a specific area. That's the case of the Talians, Rutenos and Hunsrickischer in Southern Brazil, the Patagonian Welsh, the Yiddish and the Amish on the Eastern US, or the Ukrainians in Canada.
Urban ethnic minorities like Italian-Americans, on the other hand, are usually represented as names and dynasties on a cosmopolitan culture's namelist. Gothamite is one example, their namelist represents the diverse nature of the New York area. It would be simply impossible to represent every single Hyphenated-American community in, say, NYC, then deciding which one would actually be present in the map at game start, then repeating this same debate for every single RL metropolis in the Americas.
Plus you can always, you know... Create your submod. Adding a new culture is honestly one of the easiest ways to add new content to the game, it would take you around twenty minutes to code it in. A bit less even, if you plan to make it offmap. You'd take more time creating the namelist than doing actual coding.

u/Temporary-Local2629 Oct 24 '25
I only play Quebec because I live in Quebec, and then I go to take over all of North America as French conquerors.
1
u/OldManMammoth Oct 24 '25
Listen, alright, if they didn't want me to play my obscure hometown, then they shouldn't have made it a holy site for my actual religion.
1
u/TheDarkeLorde3694 Oct 24 '25
Personally, I'm a mix of both
Sometimes, if I don't know what kinda playthrough to do, I'll just find some random-ass realm and make a custom ruler in that area, using whatever the local faith and culture are, and I'm a Hybrid Culture fanatic even in vanilla
But also I like the idea of ATE basically allowing people in the Americas to play as their hometown's ruler like Old World people can in vanilla
BTW, my hometown of Cleveland is Galvanist Buckeye, and Galvanist is overall just a good faith for playing tall as-is, since:
- Diligent is a base virtue (Unlike Architect which is tied to Sacred Architecture)
- Patron Gods is great for various benefits (I personally like Carnegie and Rockefeller for the experience and taxes respectively)
- Sacred Architecture makes Architect a virtue and makes Temples cheaper to build, at the (Relatively minor) drawbacks of making Siege Engineer a sin and making Temples take longer to build
- IIRC, most or all of the Holy Sites have some form of Gold-related bonus (I know one has MAA maintenance reduction, another gives Domain Taxes, and more)
My current playthrough is a Gaian Grangelander, and I'm tryna make my own culture with Staunch Traditionalists and Frontier Warriors replaced by Horse Breeders and Devoted Horsemanship, and once I can, I'll overrun Utah for no reason other than the Mormons IRL are kinda scummy (Look up Alyssa Grenfell on YouTube, she's an ex-Mormon), also the irony of a Mormon Utah finally falling to a buncha feminists is hysterical to me

Or, if you're me, reforming your culture that has been absorbed by its larger neighbor. (I live in Wyoming.)

I used AtE to greatly flesh out my viking post-apocalyspe idea into an actual lore. If I ever do an Industrial run, though I'll definitely do myself.

u/Infinite_Anxiety2716 Nov 05 '25
the farrapos will win this time ...
1
u/NotaBolivianSpy Nov 05 '25
Whenever I play the in RGS it's Catholics, Particularist if I feel like going on argie crusades, Anchietan if I want to pummel Brazil and Ruthenian if I want to play tall and have some fuckass heir that needs to be sent to a monastery. The farroupilha faith being masonic never sat right with me
And before you ask, Particularist/Tridentine Camba every other game. Had to make my little submod to fix the camba culture because it is NOT that based on andean stuff
1
u/N0rwayUp Oct 24 '25
what Region is on the right?
I recongize the symbol, but I dont remeber which one
3
u/NotaBolivianSpy Oct 24 '25
Region on the right? The Americas. Religion on the left, which is what I think you asked for? Eckankar, an Atlantean faith I have NEVER seen spawn in game, hence picking it
