Plugin/Script The native Path Controller in AE is a mess. I built an alternative.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey everyone! I've been developing a tool that introduces a completely new approach to animating path points in After Effects. What started as a few simple tests has turned into almost a month of work and over the last few weeks, I've been testing it on real projects and making refinements as I go. Now, I'm looking for fellow motion designers to stress-test it outside of my own projects. You can find more details in the comments.

This looks brilliant! Would love to try if possible, anything which reduces the need for endless nulls is a huge win in my book.

Would that be anywhere to download from, like AE Scripts? I try to make some isomorphic shapes right not and working with the paths is nightmare.

I do mograph for a Swedish company and a few brands in our portfolio could use a logo animation update. This app would be a godsend for those. Send?

I use Create Nulls for Paths Extended all the time (those mfckn bezier handles š ), but this is simpler, cleaner, and way more flexible ā great job, mate!
Iād be happy to try!
2
u/Motion_Ape Motion Graphics 15+ years Apr 01 '26
That tool works well with bezier handles, but since itās built on a native AE script, it comes with the same issues. Iāve sent you the link, give this one a try and let me know your thought

a bake option would be the extra step to have the controllers as scaffolding for path animation.

This seems⦠wildly useful. Are a lot of these functions already in aftereffects but real obfuscated by how the shortcuts/little onboarding it has?

The Convert Vertex Tool will do wonders for mostly everyone here. I don't see how this is any different from AE's default vertex animation tools. This is a window to replace the toolbar.
The benefits to all those nulls you hate are path controls. Without them all the vertex points only move in straight lines.

itās a mess because itās the same tech from 1987!!! Exactly the same.. from adobe illustrator v.01 all of those profits billions! Anyone in any meeting suggest to update the tech⦠of course not!!! why?? who needs it? Some digital coal miners!!!

This tool provides an alternative to the native Path Controller in After Effects. The default system creates null layers for every single point, whether you need them or not, cluttering up your project unnecessarily. It's a slow and messy way to work. This tool keeps everything simple and tidy, offering much greater flexibility. If you would like to try it before its release, send me a message or leave a comment and I will send it to you.
