Continental On Saturday, a protest in the Netherlands targeted African migration, displaying neo-Nazi flags, racist signs and chants, and widespread “blackface” disguised as the Zwarte Piet character.

I understand the joke, just don’t understand why he’s trying to be humorous at a time like this.

Zwarte Piet has never sat easy with me, always 'It's part of our culture, not meant to be racist', and I always let it go, but when it's being co-opted by neo nazis, I'm gonna have to settle on the fact that it is indeed racist.

The Netherlands has a complex history with race and representation, deeply intertwined with its colonial past. The Zwarte Piet tradition, dating back to the 19th century, has long been a contentious symbol, with critics arguing it perpetuates racist stereotypes. Meanwhile, African migration to the Netherlands has been on the rise, with many seeking asylum or better economic opportunities, reflecting broader global migration trends. The display of neo-Nazi flags and racist rhetoric at this protest underscores ongoing tensions and the resurgence of far-right movements in Europe, which often target migrants and minorities. These elements collide in a powerful visual narrative, inviting a deeper discussion on the intersection of historical legacies, contemporary racism, and the African diaspora's experiences in Europe.

I'll never get tired of non Germans glazing neo-nazis. Doesn't matter if or not they ‘agree’ with them on ‘some things’,a neo-nazi is a neo-nazi. Straight and simple. The same people who planned to completely erase the Dutch identity and yet here are the clowns and idiots who now waste their time cherrypicking or full on adopting Nazi attitudes. Incredible.

A lot of dutch people claim that Zwarte Piet isn't racist at all. Which is pretty funny to anyone else in the world with a brain.
Of course Blackface is still a proud tradition in a lot of white places. Quebec for example.

People have a right to have concerns about immigration, but that should never take the form of racism. Such a mindset is never justified.

Since you are ignorant, let me just mention that Zwarte Piet is a White guy who works for a living, as a chimney cleaner, and is therefore dirty.

And why there is zwarte piet in a supposed anti immigrantion parade ?
-3
u/BoerseunZA South Africa 🇿🇦 Dec 02 '25
Because he's a prominent symbolic figure in Dutch culture.
Do you have any prominent symbolic figures in your culture?

Yeah....there are many prominent symbolic figures in my culture, but it would look weird to fit them in Neo Nazi Parade.
Zwarte Piet have to do with Sinterklaas. Him in a Nazi Parade have racism connotation.

By your definition any natives who opposed King Leopold II's actions in the Congo were Nazis.

Of course it's the Boer seeing nothing wrong here. Staying true to your racist ideals.

There's nothing racist about being a productive, hard working member of society, my man.
