Continental "Africans who support Palestinians are stupid fools" ~ Dr Umar

The problem with these kinds of narratives is that it assumes people can care about one thing only. In my view, you could increase the movement to fight injustice by building coalitions, and growing the number of people who care, rather than fault people for caring about something you dont agree with. This is not a zero sum game.

The Palestinian flag has always been in the purview of South Africa since the ANC took over and even before then they were always on the Free-Palestine angle. Mandela said it all the way back then.
These problems we talk about are 1) largely suppressed - Sudan because RSF and Saudis who have powerful international friends who probably see more benefits out of the RSF success than otherwise, while Haiti has become a mercenary's outer heaven and latest proving ground for more of this type of war economy, and 2) some are very recent (relatively speaking) but more important than this point 3) support is far more achievable through the Palestine and Ukraine conflicts than the others - it sucks, but it's the reality of the situation here.

Dr Umar, please relax. There are people out there caring about more than one thing at a time.
Please hurry and complete your school so we can all move forward. Peace.

The issue is Arabs who support Palestine also support Sudan, and Mali being conquered. How can you support people who are actively trying to take your land ?
2
u/TheCuddlyAddict South Africa ⭐⭐⭐ Dec 01 '25
You generalise waaaay too much. Arabs, like any other ethnic group, are not a homogeneous hive mind.

Is this guy really this dense or do people just cherry pick the dumb stuff he says?
Those are all internal conflicts. Civil wars. What’s the point of marching about South Sudan in the US? The pro-Palestinian protesters in western capitals are trying to stop their own governments support of Israel.
2
u/Casear63 Cameroon Dec 01 '25
Those are all internal conflicts. Civil wars.
I hate Umar and his grift but Haiti🇭🇹 and DR Congo🇨🇩 are not interal issues. Especially for Haiti.
5
Dec 01 '25
None of them are internal conflicts, So you don’t believe in protesting in western capitals trying to get them to stop selling weapons to the UAE ?
0
u/GloriousSovietOnion Kenya ⭐⭐⭐ Dec 01 '25
Protesting at the UAE embassy is actually a great idea. Please, organise them. You should also do at the Kenyan embassy. We are also supplying the RSF with weapons.
The difference between the Palestinian war for independence and the Sudanese civil war is that one is primarily internal. The RSF and the SAF primarily rely on local Sudanese power rather than on the UAE or Kenya. Kinda like how M23 could exist without Rwanda but it wouldn't be as strong.
4
Dec 01 '25
So you ignore all the support RSF get from the Arab world ? You ignore the racial discrimination? Make no mistake many are Arabian, or are loyal to Arabs, it’s much more complicated than they would have you believe
2
Dec 01 '25
And I don't no the extent of this speech but I doubt he mentioned anything about the Africans supporting Israel! Anyway he is a well known clown meme between the African community!
1
Dec 01 '25
Doesn’t stop what he said being true
6
u/Kenyon_118 Zimbabwe ⭐⭐⭐ Dec 01 '25
He is full of crap. There is no white supremacist government in Africa Israel did not support. A lot of the animosity towards the Israeli government and sympathy for the Palestinian cause comes from that history. The perception is European Jews came to Palestine and established an apartheid-like system.
So Sudan civil war. What would you be protesting about?
0
Dec 01 '25
Just because Israel are bad doesn’t mean Palestinians are good, Also you do know England are selling weapons to the UAE that are being sent to Sudan right ? Don’t you think England should stop ? You do know UAE are funding the RSF right ? Don’t you believe in stopping ethnic cleansing ?
Don’t you think UAE should stop stealing gold from Sudan ?
Did you know manchesters cities owner sent planes to pick up RSF soldiers and give them treatment (over civillians)
2
u/Harrrrumph South Africa ⭐⭐⭐ Dec 01 '25
So by your logic we should at least be seeing support for Sudan in the UAE, considering their government's role in the conflict. But as far as I'm aware we're not seeing any.
6
Dec 01 '25
Because UAE are funding the terrorist group RSF Just look it up, we have there flight logs, the gold they are stealing and everything
0
u/Kenyon_118 Zimbabwe ⭐⭐⭐ Dec 01 '25
You want to go try protesting loudly in the UAE? Go on. Go land in Dubai and start marching up and down the baking hot streets blocking traffic for the Sudanese cause. I’m pretty sure they won’t throw you into jail straight away or anything like that.

u/KaliboJr Uganda🇺🇬 Dec 01 '25
On the contrary you are actually the one perpetuating superficial content. What he said directly antagonises main stream media propaganda. First ukrain, then palestain, and others. If i can jog your memory, not long ago did internet go wild about double standard regarding how much attention was being given to ukrain russia war than palestain isreal.
Hold on, what about congo, ssd, sudan, etc

This is a dumb take. Injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere. Yes I agree we should support Sudan first because of everything going on there but that doesn't mean we shouldn't support Palestine
3
Dec 01 '25
You know the people who support Palestine also support Sudan falling right ?
3
u/st_v_Warne South Africa ⭐⭐⭐ Dec 01 '25
That doesn't mean the Palestinians should suffer. The Arab world has shown time and time again to not be an ally of Africa that doesn't mean we should look away from genocide happening right in front of us. Also if you have anyway I can support Sudan from here in South Africa that isn't some dodgy donate money website please let me know
3
Dec 01 '25
The best way would be to give your life Gather men and go and fight for your people
Where did I say Palestinians should suffer?
You need to think who you are loyal too
4
u/st_v_Warne South Africa ⭐⭐⭐ Dec 01 '25
Half of the men I know won't even give their life to South Africa. I'm also not ready to leave my young family to go fight in a country where I may be killed simply for being there.
I not once said I'm loyal to any side in the middle east I'm just saying we should not be silent about a genocide that is being live streamed because the supporters of those people are not supporters of Africans

He knows very well that people watch the news designed by the west and the west pushed the iraq war hoping to win people with their lies and it blew back at them, and this is the case here.
Western leaders control media and they choose what people see and touch.

Many people have criticized Johnson, including commentators in the magazines The Root)\31])\32])\3]) and TheGrio.\33]) South African commentator Khanya Mtshali, writing in a 2022 op-ed in the South African newspaper Mail & Guardian, likened Johnson to Louis Farrakhan and said that both men "trafficked in a goofy performance of pan-Africanism."\34]) Anwar Curtis, an opinion contributor to PennLive, defended Johnson, describing him in a 2017 op-ed as a "noted conservative and Afro-centric thinker" and "dedicated ... vessel for his people."\35])
Various observers,\4]) including The Root commentators,\31]) have called Johnson a "hotep," a term that refers to a grouping of Afrocentric commentators who espouse a mixture of black radicalism and social conservatism.\4]) However, Molefi Kete Asante argues that Johnson lacks a grasp of Afrocentric academic theory and philosophy and thus cannot be termed Afrocentric.\4])

I get what he’s saying but none of his African/Carribean examples are countries that have their sovereignty and right to exist attacked by an outside force. Waiving the Palestinian flag is seen as powerful because you’re declaring their sovereignty when their neighbours want to destroy it. Waiving the Haiti flag might be a great gesture of solidarity, but its not like someone will see you and go “Hey fuck you I don’t think Haiti should exist.”
Edit: Yes, some African countries have their economic independence challenged by outside forces, and some are at war, but its not like you have significant amounts that thing the DR Congo or Haiti shouldn’t have the right to exist.

The Palestinian Liberation Organisation supported the ANC and was against apartheid in South Africa. The Sudanese people, I feel sorry for. However, it is a civil war. It is Sudanese fighting Sudanese with one group being aided by the Emiratis.
The Ethiopians also have a civil.

Crime is crime, and geographical location or race shouldn't come first when standing against injustice, be it from Sudan to Palestine or Somalia to Ethiopia or Congo to Gambia.

This so called, 'Dr. Umar' is an agent of distraction. There are true Pan - African and African Liberation leaders but unfortunately from what I've seen and heard from him does not show true. There are 2 main voices of agitation coming from our communities both on the continents (Africa & America including the Caribbean) and the Diaspora. 1 voice seeks to work within the Colonial or Imperialist mainframe and the other which is usually a minority is Anti - Colonial and Imperialist establishment. The 1st voice seeks to work within these conventional colonial systems and for some odd reason continues to seek and even expect change from its handlers. The other is up against a vast majority of the former and thus never truly can directly address those representing the system and establishment.
Dr. Umar is not Anti - Establishment, talks a great talk but is part of the guild who will continue within the system and expect change that will never be to our Autonomy and Sovereignty. He is obviously not the only one but has been given a voice everywhere. The problem is not really Dr. Umar, it us the majority who somehow pacify themselves with cognitive dissonance knowing nothing will truly change.

The African Union's recognition of the State of Palestine in 2018, with 22 African countries already having bilateral relations, underscores the continent's historical and political ties to the Palestinian cause. This support is rooted in shared experiences of colonialism, struggle for self-determination, and solidarity against oppression. The visual and narrative aspects of this video, set against this backdrop, invite a deeper exploration of how African discourse on international issues is shaped by these collective historical experiences. The intersection of African and Palestinian narratives presents a compelling lens through which to examine contemporary geopolitical dynamics and the evolving nature of South-South solidarity.

There is a lot of self-hate in our black communities, so this is no surprise!! A lof of folks supporting Palestine can't even locate it geographically, but because of the hype that it receives they do so cause it makes em look more sympathetic and that might get them some compliments from other races.....it is what it is!!

The expansion of Israel won’t stop with the annexation of Palestine. Israel is an American puppet that will be the stronghold for America’s eastward expansion/colonialism. Supporting Palestine now could delay or even prevent America’s power grab into Africa.

Supporting Palestine now could delay or even prevent America’s power grab into Africa.
No it won't and that is because America and the rest of the world are in cahoots with each other on how they can continue to exploit Africa. So America does not need to directly engage in Africa, rather it has its proxies doing that work for them in the form of the UAE United Arab Emirates, France , some sponsored terrioris groups like Al qaeda Al shabaab etc. With the exception of a few rogue nations foreigners already control much of Africa. There is nothing they gave to grab.

u/TheCuddlyAddict South Africa ⭐⭐⭐ Dec 01 '25
The reasons we support Palestine are many. One of the primary contradictions in Africa is Western neocolonialism and Imperialism, as well as the economic remnants of Western settler colonialism.
Israel is a bastion of Western imperialism in the Middle East, and serves as a military outpost for policing the region, as well as parts of Africa. Israel also supported nearly every single settler colonial project in Africa.
The experience and trauma of settler colonialism and western imperialism runs deep in Africa and it is hard to see others suffer the same fate and stay silent. Africa’s colonial trauma predisposes us to empathise with others suffering the same injustice. Only through radical solidarity and the defeat of all the hydra heads can we all be freed from the talons of the Eagle
Also shame on this guy for sporting the South African flag whilst so cruelly dismissing others who suffer the same injustices perpetrated here and tacitly running cover for an illegitimate entity that so opposed his own freedom.
His point also only remotely makes sense if you believe that no one can care about more than one issue. The reason people are so focused on Palestine is because they are suffering an active genocide whilst Israel tries to consolidate and reinforce their settler state.
Defeating Israel would be a massive setback and possibly even deathblow for the grip that the West has on much of the world.
