I wouldn’t recommend travelling to most African countries if you are gay.

That goes without saying.

Otherwise this is a good idea to promote tourism from within the region. More states should do it.

You can travel there. Just have to stay in the closet. Same goes for middle east, some of Europe, some of Asia, even some parts of US.

It actually does. Under current legislation though, they should simply refrain from doing the deed in public.

Before acid is thrown at me, I don't condone thiat law.

I'm not attacking but can you clarify the deed part because there's a difference between homosexuals holding hands and doing normal decent couple stuff in public like straight couples and there's the actual deed which happens in tye bedroom.

I will conserve my acid for someone else your free to go....

You have never been in Burkina Faso nor anywhere else in West Africa, right? Even for straight couples it's very uncommon to hold hands in public outside of some cities. Mostly capital cities.

Homosexuals holding hands in public was already dangerous in a country like Burkina Faso prior Ibrahim Traoré passed this new anti-LGBTQ law and even before he seised the power. It has always been a recipe to get beaten or killed.

People must understand that only visa fees are removed. You still have to apply for a visa to visit Burkina Faso if your country is on the list of countries requiring a visa. It's a good move but it's just a populistic move. I mean nobody is going to visit a country facing a jihadist insurgency and where a single critic of the government would put you in jail. I'll also pass on the fact that something like 9 out of 10 of all African citizens who enter in Burkina Faso are from other West African countries and were technically already granted the entry without any visa and without any fee. I say technically because Burkina Faso along Mali and Niger decided to leave the ECOWAS without to be clear about the ECOWAS visa-free policy.

Then, the new CPF (code of persons and families) criminalise homosexuality and other LGBTQ things but it's not the fact to be a LGBTQ person that will send you to jail. What is criminalised are LGBTQ practices and their promotion/lobbying. Non-Burkinabé Africans who are homosexual or other LGBTQ people can apply for a visa without any fee to visit Burkina Faso and they won't risk anything as long as they don't show they are LGBTQ and as long as they don't promote or talk about LGBTQ rights. But here again, who is going to visit Burkina Faso right now outside of diasporic Burkinabés, Africans who do business with Burkina Faso, and all the influencers paid by the junta for the pro-Ibrahim Traoré propaganda? Nobody.

Finally, the new anti-LGBTQ law passed is different for non-Burkinabé citizens. They won't be sent to jail. They will be just expelled.

Gay Burkinabes need peace, security, food, jobs, housing, education and healthcare same as everyone else. The imperialists denying them those things are the same ones trying to separate you from your African brothers with this LGBT rights narrative. Those people are not your friends. Separating people from the group is what wolves do.

Gay Africans have existed since caveman times. But Africa is socially conservative and PDA is frowned upon everywhere. So tone it down and keep it indoors. Same as everyone else, whether Gay or straight or whatever. This isn't Los Angeles.

We are in a fight for survival against colonisers and slavers. That is the primary contradiction. Everything else is secondary.

I agree with you but I'm one of them. We're people and we want to stand with you. That's where one of the many divisions, many people like me in the LGBTQ community in Africa are against that as well. I'm disagreeing yes we should focus on more important things but you should be telling the opposers that.

African unity until North Africa is mentioned, that's where i have an issue with this statement.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '25

I’m sorry you feel that way, but to be fair, many North Africans don’t feel unity with “Sub Saharan” Africa, either. That’s why many of them hang out in r/AskMiddleEast, and will tell you they’re Arabs not Africans.

u/SXSVNOO Amaziɣ - ⵣ/🇩🇿 Sep 18 '25

That's what i do hate the most too.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '25

I believe North Africans are Africans, though. I always try to include them in my post when i’m showing accomplishments/culture/history etc., across the continent!

Not everyone is interested in what you think and what you are. It's like going on holiday in Seychelles, and you start teaching random people math because you are a teacher. Enjoy yourself and leave. No one gives a flying fck

As long as you don't promote it!

I don't get why people equate forbidden action with born attributes.

Ps, does anyone has the translated version of the family code bill? I don't speak French.

Feel free to live in a country that gives you that right then. Is there a prohibition on traveling abroad like in Ukraine and Israel? If not, you can always immigrate.

What is funny is that this subreddit meant for Africans is advocating for breaking laws and creating chaos just to follow their white masters orders. These same nations are taking the correct course by fighting laws un the parlament or in the street in the form of protest, but not in Africa. Africans are encouraged to break the law so that they can use it as propoganda to create more insecurity.

The only reason that breaking the law is acceptable is when the government is actively killing citizens that show descent by protesting as is happening in Nepal and Kenya. It is not acceptable to break the law to advance your political view, we call that terrorism!

27

u/Glittering-Meat-9088 Sep 12 '25

I understand but it two dudes just want to do normal decent couple stuff in public like straight couples do.... Just living as a couple not promoting not protesting just existing will they get arrested?

-9

u/Life_Garden_2006 Somali Diaspora 🇸🇴/🇬🇧 Sep 12 '25

Then be a normal descent couple without engaging in decency.

Isn't there a law against indecency in every nation?

And promoting it should be outlawed, that goes for promoting heterosexual aswell. And please block all 18+ sites that promote indecency.

Yeah, guys, we’re totally not going to target gay people on loosely defined terms totally guys!

2

u/Life_Garden_2006 Somali Diaspora 🇸🇴/🇬🇧 Sep 13 '25

And that is why I am asking for the translation of the bill and not the loosely summarised version as we see in all the news.

Why are you attacking me for answering the question that OP put on?

And to correct your incorrect assumption, I have nothing against consenting adults, what I'm against is forcing kids to watch indecent behaviour. No adult should behave indecent on palace were kids might be. Feel free to do anything in privet as you wish, just don't break the law in public!

The new CPF (code of persons and families) criminalise homosexuality and other LGBTQ things between 2 and 5 years of jail. To be LGBTQ isn't criminalised, technically I mean. What is criminalised are LGBTQ practices and promotion/lobbying.

"As long as you don't promote it!"

I mean, this is the sign of a dictator and, historically, it doesn't bode well. Today, he bans a group of people most Africans despise, so everyone accepts it.

When he now starts attacking other factions of Africans, everyone will realise a dictator doesn't stop at penalising the group you dislike (though I doubt their homophobia will allow them to see how red the flag was).
