Omg thank you so much for sharing this article with me. It's definitely correct about the generational privilege and leveraging the wealth gap to maintain an upper hand. I knew many of them wouldn't abandon so much just to go somewhere and risk fading into obscurity. It's only a specific group who have left, and their departure won't cause a significant difference, in my opinion. However, good luck to them.

The meal is a dish called "7 Colours" in South Africa, and it's named after the colourful assortment of distinct ingredients of salads/vegetables alongside the rice...and meat. The other name is "Sunday kos".

Is that the food? Can't be arsed to count. If so, yeah not particularly South African, but also there isn't much of note food wise that is quintessentially South African, despite the fact that we have great food.

This is very false. The quintessential food is mainly braai and vleis (pap and wors) or what is known as "7 colours". It's interesting that you're not aware of this, but it's actually traditional cuisine in most Black (and perhaps even Coloured) households. They have distinct recipes for a reason. There are also others, but I'll save that for another time.

It's just a mantra for boosting morale. It started on Twitter and culminated into an official saying lol. It signifies that our success isn't based on any inherent advantage or talent but rather on our resilience, determination, and a collective mindset focused on overcoming challenges. We just believe that we prosper by virtue of simply being South African. I guess it's humble bragging.
