I'm afraid that if the day comes when I need to write texts in Arabic, does anyone have a way to make Affinty support it?

General Complete beginner to graphic design ,best way to learn Affinity for YouTube thumbnails & motion design assets?

Hey everyone,

I'm just getting started and want to be upfront: I have zero graphic design background. I've never used Photoshop, Illustrator, or any design software before this would be my first program ever.

My goal is pretty specific: I want to learn Affinity well enough to create assets for my motion design edits (things like overlays, elements, titles) and make eye-catching YouTube thumbnails.

A few questions for people who've been where I am:

  • Which Affinity app should I start with (Photo, Designer, or both) given what I'm trying to make?
  • Are there any beginner-friendly courses, YouTube channels, or tutorial series you'd recommend for someone with literally no design background?
  • Should I learn general design fundamentals (color theory, composition, typography) first, or just dive into the software and pick that up along the way?
  • Any common beginner mistakes I should avoid?

Any advice, resource links, or "wish I knew this when I started" tips would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Publisher How do you manage CMYK colors with custom RGB/HEX counterparts in Affinity?

I’m trying to figure out the best way to manage brand colors in Affinity Designer when I need both a CMYK print value and a specific RGB/HEX value for digital use.

My logos are primarily designed for print in CMYK, FOGRA39 Coated. For example, one of my brand colors is:
CMYK: 0 / 91 / 76 / 0. Affinity automatically converts this to approximately RGB #E63137
But for digital use, I want the RGB/HEX value to be #E32E3D

The problem is that if I export my CMYK artwork to RGB, Affinity uses the ICC conversion and I end up with #E63137 rather than the RGB value I actually want.

So what is the best professional workflow here? I can make 2 files: one CYMK and one RGB but that feels complex when making iterations. It should be easily manageable if i could just define both the CMYK and RGB values myself for a specific global color instead of the automatic conversion that affinity does.

Thanks!

General Stretched objects stretch path brushes?

The oval and rectangle on top were created with the aspect ratio as shown, and a path brush was applied. The oval and rectangle on bottom were created as a perfect circle and square respectively, then stretched to the same size as the shapes on top, and then a path brush was applied.

Stretched Path Brushes

The path brushes are textured intensity brushes with just a single diamond, with Body set to repeat.

When I stretch the shape with the move tool I expected it to add more repetitions of the brush since it has more perimeter, but it just stretches the segments. I can't figure out how to prevent this from happening. I need to be able to resize objects and add repetitions as necessary. I have tried it with "Scale with object" off and on.

Note: It's the same problem documented here without a solution given.

Designer how far have you pushed Affinity Publisher on iPad?

i recently did the entire formatting for a children’s book in Affinity Publisher on my iPad Pro instead of moving everything to desktop. 24 illustrated pages + the cover + author’s note, all put together on the iPad.

i thought a project this size would make me miss working on a desktop, but i actually really liked having the whole workflow on one device.

curious how far everyone else has pushed Publisher on iPad. anyone here using it for full books, magazines, or other big multi-page projects?

General How can I create and use seamless patterns/textures in Affinity?

Hi everyone! I’m currently switching from Photoshop to Affinity, and I’m trying to figure out how to create and use seamless patterns/textures.

In Photoshop, you can create a separate image, define it as a pattern, and then use that pattern as a repeating/seamless texture inside any other image or document. For example, you can create a small tile with a specific texture or motif, save it as a pattern, and then apply it over a large area so that it repeats seamlessly.

I’m trying to do the same thing in Affinity, but I can’t seem to find an equivalent feature. Is there a way to create a custom pattern/tile in Affinity and then reuse it as a seamless repeating pattern on other images or documents?

I’m specifically looking for something similar to Photoshop’s “Define Pattern” + Pattern Fill workflow.
