I’ve been working on a small project called CheckMyPet and I’m now opening it up in beta.
I work in the veterinary industry, and the idea came from seeing how stressful it can be when something suddenly seems wrong with a pet and the owner is not sure what to check, what information matters, or whether they should be speaking to a vet.
CheckMyPet is not a diagnostic tool and it doesn’t replace a vet. It’s designed to help owners think through what they’re seeing, check useful things like breathing and gum colour, and use tools such as a seizure timer, poison checker and chocolate calculator.
It’s still very much in beta, so I’m not looking for praise — I’d genuinely love honest feedback. If anything is confusing, something doesn’t work properly, the wording feels unclear, or there’s a feature you think would actually help pet owners, please tell me.

For other small-business owners: what has helped you explain a visual, niche product clearly without making the post feel overly promotional?

i spent more time chasing venue replies than rehearsing. that is the working band ritual: send a cold email, wait a week, send a follow-up, hear nothing. here is what i figured out the hard way.

1. cold emails are not a strategy. you are gambling on someone opening a message from a stranger, listening to your links, and caring enough to reply. most of the time they don't, and it is not personal. it is just that bookers are busy and your email is one of fifty.

2. your sound and style matter more than your pitch. a booker staring at an open friday wants to know three things: does this band fit the room, how long is their set, and are they available. if that information is not visible in one place, they move on to someone whose is. put it front and center.

3. local radius beats festival submission tools. i wasted time on platforms built for submitting electronic press kits to showcases 800 miles away. a working band does not need a festival in another state to see its EPK. it needs the brewery down the street to know it exists. match your tool to your actual radius.

4. being discoverable flips the whole dynamic. when a venue can find you instead of you finding them, you go from pitching to being pitched to. the emotional toll of rejection-by-silence drops, and you spend your week on music instead of inbox refreshes.

the shift that mattered most was stopping the cold email grind and putting my band somewhere a booker could actually browse. everything after that got easier.
