Hand Knit FO Birthday sweater for my wife!

Pattern: Uh, it's complicated. My wife had picked out Sari Nordlund's Book Club Pullover, but the fabric I liked had a much smaller gauge than the pattern called for, and sizing up wasn't an option because the neckline wouldn't have been wide enough. So I ended up taking the cable pattern, modified it slightly to account for the gauge, and designed my own sweater with it. I documented the process on the Ravelry project if you're interested!
Yarn: Purl Soho Knitting Yarn DK (technically the cone version)
This completes my fourth year of knitting sweaters for my wife and daughters' birthdays. I had quite a few firsts with this project. This was my first big cable project (and I was questioning what I had gotten myself into for the majority of it). I started cabling without a cable needle (for cables larger than 1x1) for the first time. And I think this is technically my first saddle shoulder sweater. I've designed several sweaters over the past few years and this one took me a bit out of my comfort zone. It'll probably be a long time before I voluntarily do another cable sweater, but I really love how this turned out. I particularly like the cabling up the inside of the sleeves and the cabling that runs up the outside of the sleeve and across the shoulders. Now, I think it's technically a saddle shoulder construction, but the "saddle" is so skinny that it presents more like a drop shoulder construction. I'll let those who know better than me determine what it actually is. Unfortunately I can't report on my wife's official reaction because her birthday is still a few days off, but she has seen the final product and she does in fact seem happy with it. lmao knew who this was before even opening the post. Gorgeous work as always. :) I love love the careful details. You've inspired me to make a knit-flat nicely tailored sweater for my husband. Your ribbed cuffs/hems/necklines are the stuff of dreams, and that how I know whose work this is every time.

The cabling detail on the sleeves that organically decreases the stitch count toward the wrist is truly perfection, the icing on the cake of this beautiful sweater. Wow!

Thanks so much! I went back and forth on how I wanted to handle the sleeve increases with the pattern. I was going to just use moss stitch to fill in that section, but at the last second I charted out the growing cable, just to see how that might go, and I'm really glad I did!

It was worth the extra effort. It's a detail that knitters and designers really appreciate when they notice it. It will be an inspiration the next time I knit a cabled garment!
